Chapter 312: The Soul's Hometown
For the Zweilous that had just gained eyes, everything around it seemed utterly novel.
The dusk sunset sinking at the horizon's edge.
The laughing, joyful Pokémon.
The rough, dark-hued beach and grains of sand, the deep blue tide endlessly surging and receding, the bright neon lights flickering in the distance, the lush green flora.
It had never seen so many colors, nor known what the world truly looked like.
Everything it had perceived through smell and touch was abstract; with its feeble imagination, it could not sketch out such a vibrant, colorful, beautiful world, unable to touch the real.
But now.
All of this was reflected into its eyes — even including the person standing not far away.
The appearance was very unfamiliar, quite different from the image the Zweilous had sketched in its heart, but overall it was more or less the same… Mm, more or less the same!
The Zweilous convinced itself of this, then rushed toward the trainer like a fledgling returning to its nest!
Even though it was seeing the trainer's appearance for the first time, by that familiar scent, the Zweilous recognized who the other party was without the slightest effort.
"Hee-yu—" "Hee-yu—"
Huh?
Why were there two voices?
The Zweilous froze slightly, its head involuntarily turning toward the source of the sound, and immediately saw that to its left/right there was actually an extra strange fellow!
"Hee-yu?" "Hee-yu?"
It slammed on the brakes hard, tumbled face-first onto the ground from the momentum, flipped over completely with all four legs in the air, utterly wretched.
But honestly, compared to all that, what concerned it more was who was sticking so close to it!
It struggled to flip itself upright, let out a threatening low growl at the unknown "fellow" beside it, trying to use its roar to force the other to back down — only to find that the "other party" was growling back at it too!
This time the Zweilous couldn't hold its temper, and with a howl lunged at the "other party" to bite!
"Stop! Stop!"
Just as it was about to clamp down.
The trainer's familiar voice made the Zweilous halt; it had always been accustomed to prioritizing the trainer's commands over its own will, so even though a stranger was pressed so close to it, it still stopped.
"Hee-yu~" "Hee-yu~"
The Zweilous looked at the approaching trainer, its voice a little aggrieved, wanting him to let it bite his hand to relax.
Little did it expect that the "other party" seemed to have the same idea, making the same sound.
This made it a little unable to hold back.
The trainer's hands are mine—
"Hee—" "Hee—"
Two hands, with perfect precision, were stuffed into the Zweilous's two large mouths just before they could open wide.
The irritable Zweilous immediately fell quiet, gently sucking like a baby with a pacifier, its face full of serene, peaceful expression.
Although it didn't know why, the trainer's hands seemed to have gotten a little smaller, but it was still that familiar taste, which made it very relaxed.
"Wuu…" "Wuu…"
Baimu looked at the two dragon heads as quiet as well-behaved babies, let out a slight breath of relief while inevitably feeling a bit of a headache, "Sure enough, it happened."
"What's wrong?"
Kotetsu walked over carrying a tray, saw the Zweilous holding his hands in its mouth with its lips constantly moving, and asked, "Did something happen?"
"Seeing the world for the first time, seeing a 'brother' for the first time — this fellow's had a bit of an overreaction." He showed a helpless smile. "After all, it's got an extra self now."
Kotetsu nodded in realization, then said, "Do you need help? I can help you calm it down."
"No need, leave it to me."
Baimu declined the other's kind offer; the Zweilous's matters should be left for them to sort out themselves.
And noticing that something was happening over here.
Aggron and the other Pokémon immediately abandoned their dinner and crowded over; Galarian Corsola glanced at its unfinished meal, then at its empty bowl, thought briefly, and followed along.
The difference between one full meal and full meals every day, it still understood.
Besides, sneaking bites of someone else's food would definitely earn a lecture from the trainer — such troublesome things it would never do.
Piplup saw Mawile leave, noticed Kotetsu also crowding around the Zweilous, glanced at its own dinner and then at Mamoswine, and still chose to put it down and go over to investigate.
With so many Pokémon leaving, Kotetsu's other Pokémon exchanged glances, couldn't stay either, and joined Piplup in joining the fun.
At this moment.
Only Mamoswine remained alone and resolute beside the dining table, eating steadily, and only after finishing the last bite did it follow the majority; passing by Galarian Corsola, it was even surprised.
Why are you flying so slowly?
Galarian Corsola felt that gaze that seemed almost contemptuous, gave no response, and flew on its own way.
But before it could even get there, it heard Baimu's helpless voice.
"What are you crowding over here for? Just adding to the mess! Go back and eat, all of you — gathered in a pile trying to smother me and the Zweilous? Enough! Go back, all of you, go back!"
He shooed Aggron and the other Pokémon away, then pulled his hands out of the Zweilous's mouth.
"Hee-yu—" "Hee-yu—"
Hearing the two heads' calls that could be called perfectly in sync, Baimu set both hands to work and gave them a good rub for a while, "Eat first, once your bellies are full everything will be fine."
The Zweilous glanced at the head beside it, but in the end it was still that obedient good child — no matter how uncomfortable it felt inside, it slowly shuffled over to the dining table and lowered its head to eat from the two bowls the trainer had brought over.
Baimu looked at the now-calm Zweilous and let out a slight breath of relief.
After evolution, this fellow's size and weight had both increased significantly, and correspondingly its appetite had risen quite a bit too.
So there was no need to worry about having to halve the food preparation, causing the two heads to start fighting over uneven distribution. Split evenly like this, not only was there no less, there was even more.
"Zweilous really is incredible…"
Xiaoguang watched from the side, his face full of wonder.
"Incredible as it is, this little fellow still needs more room to grow." All Baimu smiled at her, then let out a helpless sigh.
The evolution brought changes to the Two-Headed Tyrant that went far beyond a simple boost in base stats.
For one, it could now observe the world through its eyes.
For another, it now possessed two heads — perhaps it had become "they," or perhaps it was still the same original "it," only now with two heads, two viewpoints, and two ways of thinking.
Either of these two changes appearing alone would not have caused much of a reaction.
Unfortunately, they appeared at the same time, and the shock to the Two-Headed Tyrant was enormous — not only spiritually, but also in terms of its senses and cognition.
"But evolution is still a good thing."
All Baimu held the Two-Headed Tyrant's two heads, and couldn't help but be grateful that it didn't have a particular preference for his left or right hand.
Otherwise, the sight of the left and right heads fighting over one hand would be too beautiful — he didn't dare look.
"Heiyu~" "Heiyu~"
The Two-Headed Tyrant still loved snuggling with its trainer; closing its eyes and nuzzling brought all the familiar feelings rushing back, and in that moment, the curiosity, excitement, nervousness, confusion, and restlessness brought by evolution were all healed by the familiar.
Just as for other Pokémon, the scent of their homeland can bring them great relaxation of body and mind.
All Baimu was its soul's homeland.
That warm embrace was the "homeland" it never wished to forget.
