Chapter 37: I Refuse to Accept It! You
“What do we do now?” The two crouched beneath a nearby step, watching the Qingyu Immortal Sect disciples gather again, laughing and chatting. Yan Xiaohu asked.
It was his own temper’s fault—always too impulsive, no matter what he did. Now, there wasn’t even room to ease the tension.
Didn’t you hear them say just now? Even elders from other sects aren’t allowed in, let alone Lu Yaoyao.
Unless the two could reach Xuanyou Immortal, and get the rules changed, there might still be a chance.
Zhou Qing stared at the gate, gritted his teeth, and stood up.
Fear not the ten thousand possibilities, only the one in a million—tonight, he must find the old hen.
“I’ll try again!”
Yan Xiaohu grabbed him at once: “How are you going to try?”
Zhou Qing licked his lips: “Sneak in.”
“That’s not easy to do,” Yan Xiaohu frowned. “I’ve checked—it’s a small villa, but to protect the disciples going out, they’ve probably brought in some powerful array flags. No ordinary person could break in.”
Zhou Qing nodded: “I know. But we have to try.”
“Then how do you plan to sneak in? What can I do to help?” Yan Xiaohu asked anxiously.
Zhou Qing looked at the main gate, then said: “Sneak in through the front gate. You just stay here.”
Before Yan Xiaohu could react, Zhou Qing slipped away furtively, leaving him stunned in place.
Wait—how do you sneak in through the front gate?
Soon, he saw Zhou Qing carefully hugging the wall, inching toward the main gate, the bright red lanterns hanging all around illuminating him clearly.
Wait—what the hell?
Do they really think these people are blind?!
But the next scene left him frozen in place, his mind utterly blank.
As the gate drew near, Zhou Qing exhaled slowly, silently praying his talent skill would activate.
Foundation Establishment cultivators have a 90% chance of ignoring his presence—please don’t let it land on that unlucky 10% now.
Seeing several of them seem to have reached some topic and all turn toward the person on the edge, Zhou Qing crept forward silently.
Heaven protect him—they didn’t see him!
Zhou Qing’s heart pounded with tension as he slid slowly along the gate, slipping completely inside before sprinting off at full speed.
“My dear mother, are these people really blind? A full-grown man just slipped past right behind them, and they didn’t notice?!”
Far away, Yan Xiaohu felt his understanding of reality shatter. Disbelieving, he stood and followed Zhou Qing’s path step by step. As soon as he reached the main gate, everyone instantly drew weapons and turned toward him in unison.
“Brother, are you taking us for fools? We gave you a chance and you blew it! Go summon the elders—someone broke into our villa intending to steal our disciples’ belongings!”
Yan Xiaohu turned and ran, tears welling in his eyes.
“I refuse to accept this! You’re blatantly targeting me!” Yan Xiaohu shouted as he ran.
………
“Cluck, cluck, cluck~~”
Inside the villa, Zhou Qing dodged Qingyu Immortal Sect disciples while softly calling for the old hen.
After wandering aimlessly for who knew how long, suddenly a familiar tap-tap-tap sound rang out from ahead.
Zhou Qing’s eyes lit up instantly; he turned toward the sound.
Soon, in the darkness, he saw his old hen—perched atop a stone, tapping away at something.
Zhou Qing smiled happily and hurried forward, but his steps suddenly halted.
Because ahead came the sound of many girls laughing and playing.
The sound was too familiar—just weeks ago, eighteen girls had bathed in the hot spring, and he’d been dragged to the Discipline Hall.
“No way—”
Zhou Qing crept closer—and sure enough, mist curled above the water, where a group of girls in thin gauzy robes splashed and played joyfully.
Others lounged lazily against the smooth stones beside the spring, eyes gently closed, savoring the quiet peace.
And there, right by the pool, the old hen tapped away on a stone.
“Oh? Why is there a chicken here?”
“Sister Liu, it’s not one—it’s a whole flock.”
“You brat, you troublemaker, how dare you say that about us? You want a beating?”
“Ohhh, ticklish, ticklish, easy, easy!”
“There really is a chicken—and it looks so plump! But why does it seem so dim-witted?”
Instantly, all the girls swam over, curiously eyeing the hen.
Zhou Qing cursed inwardly—he’d been spotted after all.
He’d planned to wait until the hen moved away, then sneak in quietly—what now?
Could these girls be planning a midnight snack?
At least three figures in the spring radiated incredibly thick spiritual energy—certainly at least Golden Core realm.
He could be discovered at any moment.
He bitterly regretted not learning Uncle Er’s illusion technique—if he had, he’d have already reclaimed the hen by now.
“Look, look—it’s going to lay an egg!”
“Really? I’ve never seen a hen lay an egg before!”
“I heard chicken eggs come in many colors—sisters, guess what color this fresh one will be?”
“I guess white!”
“Red!”
………
The girls erupted into excited chatter, but Zhou Qing, hidden in the shadows, turned pale.
Because the old hen was indeed straining hard, feathers fluffed, legs spread, pushing hard to lay.
Zhou Qing had no time to hesitate—if they discovered the hen’s secret, even the Sect Master’s uncle couldn’t get it back.
Without a word, he pulled a robe from his storage pouch, hastily draped it over his head, and tore holes for his eyes.
Then he sprinted forward, snatched the laying hen, and clutched it to his chest.
Instantly, the entire hot spring fell silent. Dozens of eyes stared at Zhou Qing, stunned, unable to react.
Zhou Qing blinked, then squealed in a high-pitched voice: “Oh! Sorry, sisters! The kitchen chicken slipped out—I’ll catch it right away and bring it back tomorrow to roast for you! Please, carry on!”
After Zhou Qing finished speaking, she turned and ran.
After a moment of stunned silence, the girls’ eyes widened violently, pupils shrinking as if they’d seen the most terrifying thing in the world.
A chorus of terrified, piercing screams erupted.
Some clung together, trembling like startled fawns.
Others curled up, diving beneath the water.
Some scrambled toward shore, frantically grabbing their clothes piled nearby.
“Audacious thief! You seek death!”
Several furious shouts rang out. Zhou Qing turned—and saw a woman launch skyward from the spring, her eyes blazing like burning flames.
She paid no mind to water cascading down her graceful figure, instead forming hand seals—and behind her, a pair of celestial wings materialized.
As the white wings flapped, countless sharp spines shot toward Zhou Qing like a storm.
Zhou Qing gasped, shoved the hen into his chest, and instantly his hands were covered in silver light. The light surged—and a three-meter silver dragon roared forth, fangs bared, claws extended.
BOOM!
The two collided instantly. Brilliant light exploded into the night sky; a powerful shockwave surged outward, tearing deep gashes into the ground, churning dust and hurling shattered stones.
Shhh-shhh-shhh!
By the time the girls had hastily dressed and pushed through the dust, Zhou Qing was gone.
“Utterly audacious! Seal the main gate immediately and notify the elders—we must find this man!”
Several Golden Core women gritted their teeth, eyes filled with fury and resentment.
“Yes!”
