Chapter 2740: Shameless
"Why is Nie Wen scratching my face all over?" Zhou Andong glanced at Zhang Zuo, his tone surprised: "Your question isn't just telling me that Tang Lin and Nie Wen have run into trouble, is it?"
"And I merely spoke affirmatively, saying what you had in mind. So even if Nie Wen knew, she would be scratching your face all over, not me."
"Damn it!"
Zhang Zuo stopped in his tracks, staring at Zhou Andong with utter disbelief, his lips moving but making no sound. Yet his gaze told the whole world: there really are people this shameless under heaven.
Zhou Andong walked forward with his hands behind his back, taking measured steps. He didn't keep asking how Nie Wen was doing. Wang Wentian drove the Mercedes, Shen Weiming the Land Cruiser slowly following behind, while Yu Zhan and Lian Kai kept a five-meter distance ahead and behind Zhou Andong.
"Yu Zhan!" Zhou Andong suddenly shouted.
Yu Zhan halted, turned, and walked back: "Chairman!"
"Talk while walking!" Zhou Andong waved his hand with a smile: "Your brother-in-law's wedding—I had no time to attend. Did your wife say anything?"
"No!" Yu Zhan hurriedly replied: "She knows you're busy, and said she'll treat you to drinks when you return to Jiangzhou."
Zhou Andong laughed: "You've been dating nearly a year—any plans to marry?"
Yu Zhan's face flushed slightly: "Her parents did mention it, urging us to hurry up, but it was just a passing remark."
"You're not young anymore—parents worrying is natural." Zhou Andong pondered: "This way, I'll give you a few days off at month's end. Go back to your hometown, bring your parents to Jiangzhou, let both families meet, discuss, and settle the marriage."
Yu Zhan felt moved but still said: "I need to discuss this with Xiaohui first—I need her agreement."
"Exactly!" Zhou Andong nodded: "Marriage is between two people—consulting her is right. Besides, there's another matter you should consider."
Yu Zhan asked doubtfully: "What matter?"
"Work." Zhou Andong said solemnly: "Your jobs are destined to keep you apart—this won't do. So one of you must make a sacrifice."
"But from what I know of Sun Xiaohui, she could never give up her work. If she were willing to quit her forensic job, she'd have married long ago—it wouldn't come to you. So the sacrifice can only be yours."
Yu Zhan opened his mouth, wanting to speak but saying nothing, for he clearly knew in his heart the chairman was right. If he and Sun Xiaohui must have one sacrifice, it can only be him.
Zhou Andong glanced at Yu Zhan, patted his shoulder: "You and Xiaohui discuss it well. If she's willing to quit her current job, let her come to Jingcheng—she can surely handle a department manager role at Dongfang Qiu with her abilities."
"If not, you stay with the group for two years, then enroll in a night school to study hard, mainly business administration. Then go to a subsidiary as a deputy general manager to train, and later, when the chance comes, go out and stand on your own."
Yu Zhan's eyes reddened with emotion: "Thank you, Chairman."
Zhou Andong shook his head with a smile: "You've followed me this long—whenever there's a chance, I'll surely arrange everything for you. Including Wentian and them, always tagging along uselessly—if a suitable chance comes, I'll drive them all away."
At this moment, Zhou Andong had reached the door of the first bar, pushed it open, and walked in. The indoor light was dim, since it was only noon, still several hours from work hours, so the bar was very quiet.
Tang Lin sat alone on a high stool before the bar, holding a newspaper, reading it under the bar's spotlight, very intently. Zhou Andong and Zhang Zuo walked up behind him without being noticed.
Zhou Andong poked his head over, smiling: "What news in the paper has you reading so intently?"
The sudden voice behind him startled Tang Lin into a jerk—he almost dropped the newspaper, furious, about to curse, but when he turned and saw it was Zhou Andong, his anger instantly died.
"Brother Dong, don't you know scaring people can scare them to death?"
Zhou Andong wanted to laugh but held back, since he'd still need Tang Lin to work later—can't offend him now: "Sorry, brother, I didn't expect you to be so absorbed in reading the paper."
Tang Lin could say nothing—after all, this is his elder brother, his life's guiding light, even his mentor on the business path. Even if just startled, even if beaten until he jumped, he'd have to endure it.
"Brother Dong, why did you come over so early today?"
"Haven't seen you in days—missed you a bit." Zhou Andong said, face neither red nor pale: "So I dropped all work and came specially to see you."
Tang Lin's mouth corner twitched violently—if Zhou Andong said he happened to come see him, he might believe it a little. But to say he came specially? Even with a gun pointed at his head, he wouldn't believe it.
"I also miss Brother Dong a little." Tang Lin said against his will: "I was just thinking of calling you tonight for a drink."
Zhou Andong's facial muscles twitched, he chuckled twice: "Zhang Zuo told me you and Nie Wen divorced—what exactly happened?"
Zhang Zuo instantly goggled, that bewilderment, that disbelief crawling back onto his face again. Just now he'd heard what Zhou Dongzi said—so brazenly badmouthing him to his face—this dog-thing doesn't even want to be human anymore?
Tang Lin's eyes blazed as he glared at Zhang Zuo: "Zhang You idiot, you little bastard, dare curse me and Nie Wen's divorce."
"No!" Zhang Zuo pointed at Zhou Andong, furious: "This is what Zhou Dongzi said—nothing to do with me."
"Sigh!" Zhou Andong sighed: "Big Zuo brother, misspeaking once is nothing—we're all brothers, Big Lin definitely won't blame you. But you being stubborn, refusing to admit it—that's not good."
"Bullshit!" Zhang Zuo glared at Zhou Andong, shouting: "It was you who said it—why should I admit it?"
"Alright alright alright!" Zhou Andong spread his hands helplessly: "I said it, I said it—does that work now?"
"I..." Zhang Zuo choked with rage, unable to speak—he'd lived this long, never been so wronged. He truly wanted to punch Zhou Andong's face, but after thinking, he knew he couldn't beat this dog-thing, so he could only suppress that unrealistic thought.
"Alright, you know he's an idiot—why bother with him?" Zhou Andong patted Tang Lin's shoulder, then asked: "So what exactly happened to Nie Wen?"
