Chapter 2805

~7 min read 1,258 words

Sun Zhenghua, director of the Municipal News Publishing Bureau, was receiving guests in his office: "Director Yang, I'll have the staff expedite your publication retail sales permit, but renting the Capital Stadium to host a concert—you lack the qualifications, so this won't be easy."

Yang Lin was not tall and somewhat plump, but his appearance was not unpleasant, especially his chubby, cheerful face, which looked quite festive.

This fellow hadn't spoken yet, but he had already laughed, opening the black bag beside him and pulling out two large front-door cigarettes, then standing up and walking to the desk, placing the cigarettes on it.

"Director Yang, I'm just a small trader—I can't afford expensive gifts. These two large front-door cigarettes, I hope you won't disdain."

Yang Lin paused, then continued: "Since arranging the banquet is difficult, let's discuss it later. You're busy—I'll take my leave."

Sun Zhenghua laughed and stood up: "Alright, I do have quite a few things on my plate. When I have time, I'll invite Young Master Xu out for a drink together."

"Okay, okay!" Yang Lin hastily nodded in agreement: "You're busy—I'm leaving."

Sun Zhenghua said with a smile: "I'll see you off!"

Yang Lin dared not accept, hastily stopping him: "No need, no need—you're busy."

Sun Zhenghua was merely being polite; hearing Yang Lin say that, he simply let his steps fall back: "Take your time, and give my regards to Young Master Xu."

"I'll certainly deliver it." Yang Lin turned and walked away.

Sun Zhenghua picked up one of the large front-door cigarettes, weighed it in his hand, and a faint smile appeared on his face: "Not bad at knowing how to handle things."

This fellow didn't tear open the packaging to look, but directly placed the cigarettes into the office desk drawer, then picked up the phone and dialed a number. After several rings, a young man's voice came through the receiver.

"Who is this?"

Sun Zhenghua immediately said: "Young Master Xu, this is Sun Zhenghua."

"Ah!" Young Master Xu drawled lazily: "Director Sun, what's the matter?"

Sun Zhenghua said: "Just now Yang Lin came to see me—I've already greeted the staff about the publication retail sales permit; it can be processed in three days. As for renting the Capital Stadium to host a concert, he lacks the qualifications, so this is somewhat difficult."

"Qualifications? Pfft—whether he can host it or not is just a word from you!" Young Master Xu laughed: "Alright, just arrange it for him—I'll owe you a favor."

Sun Zhenghua's face showed a smile: "This matter is indeed difficult—no qualifications. If I approve the procedures for him and something goes wrong, the responsibility would be too great. But since you, Young Master Xu, have said so, I'll approve it for him—if anything happens, I'll take the blame."

"It's not that serious." Young Master Xu said: "Let's leave it at that—someday I'll host a gathering, invite that grandson Yang Lin, and we'll find a place to have a drink."

"Aiyo!" Sun Zhenghua laughed and said: "When Yang Lin left, I still said, 'When I have time, I'll invite you out for a drink.'"

Young Master Xu said: "That works—just as we said, I'll wait for your call."

"Good, good, good!" Sun Zhenghua said "good" three times in a row, then hung up the phone.

"Bang bang bang!" The office door was knocked, and Sun Zhenghua shouted: "Come in!"

The secretary pushed the door open and entered: "Director, the Party Secretary requests your presence in his office."

Sun Zhenghua frowned slightly, then smoothed it out instantly: "Understood!"

The secretary withdrew, and Sun Zhenghua frowned again—he and Party Secretary Wang Yanke did not appear as harmonious on the surface as they seemed. In private, both wished they could kill the other.

One could say that, aside from emergencies or major events, the two rarely communicated privately about work. Normally, they only met during meetings. And today, Wang Yan actually summoned him to his office—could something major have happened?

Sun Zhenghua pondered for a moment, couldn't figure it out, so he stopped overthinking and turned to walk out.

Wang Yan's office was upstairs; Sun Zhenghua climbed the stairs, stood outside Wang Yan's office, and knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Wang Yan's voice came from inside.

Sun Zhenghua pushed the door open and entered, simultaneously putting on a smile: "Secretary, you summoned me?"

"Comrade Zhenghua has arrived." Wang Yan showed an indescribable enthusiasm, personally pouring Sun Zhenghua a cup of tea: "Try it—see how my tea is."

Sun Zhenghua's eye twitched—Wang Yan, this old fellow, was being overly enthusiastic, which made him wary. But his hand reaching for the teacup showed no hesitation, and the smile remained on his face.

"Hmm!" Sun Zhenghua lifted the teacup to his nose, inhaled, and said with a smile: "Although I haven't drunk it yet, just smelling this tea aroma is already exceptional."

"Right!" Wang Yan said proudly: "A few days ago, I went to visit an old leader. When I was leaving, he gave me a box. I don't know exactly what kind of tea it is, but drinking it feels very much like Mao Feng."

Sun Zhenghua blew away the floating tea leaves, took a light sip, and praised it: "I've never drunk good tea before, so I can't tell if it's Mao Feng. But this tea is indeed delicious—not bitter, not astringent, leaving fragrance on the lips and teeth."

"I've never drunk such good tea either." Wang Yan said sentimentally: "The old leader showed me kindness and recognition. In the past, I always visited him during the New Year.

But as he aged, his health deteriorated. So now, whenever I have time, I go to his home to chat, drink tea, and play chess. To say something unpleasant: I don't know when he'll pass, but if I can keep him company longer, I will."

Sun Zhenghua snorted coldly in his heart: If it weren't for the resources still in that old leader's hands, you damn well couldn't be acting like a filial son and grandson, running to his place every day.

"Secretary!" Sun Zhenghua could no longer pretend to have idle chatter with Wang Yan—he set down his teacup and said: "You summoned me—has something happened?"

Wang Yan laughed and said: "I invited you over for good news!"

Sun Zhenghua didn't believe it at all, but still put on a pleased expression: "What good news?"

Wang Yan turned to the desk, picked up a document, and on it were several large red characters reading "Party School Training Notice."

"Take a look." Wang Yan handed the notice to Sun Zhenghua.

"This is……" Sun Zhenghua took the notice, looked at its content, and was genuinely dazed.

Wang Yan said with a smile: "Because your work over the past two years has been outstanding, the bureau leadership studied and decided to recommend you for training at the Central Party School, for a duration of three months."

Sun Zhenghua finally came to his senses—the notice in his hand could not possibly be fake. Excited, his blood pressure spiked instantly, nearly causing a cerebral hemorrhage. Fortunately, this wasn't his first time attending Party School training, so his psychological resilience was still decent.

"Secretary!" Sun Zhenghua took a deep breath: "When do I go?"

"Next Monday!" Wang Yan said: "There are still five days."

"Good!" Sun Zhenghua said: "Then I'll go back and prepare."

"Go ahead!" Wang Yan nodded, watching Sun Zhenghua leave the office, a faint smile appearing on his face: "Comrade Zhenghua, farewell—we may not meet again."
