Chapter 2883: Special Treatment
The flight from Yangcheng to Coconut City takes about fifty minutes. Zhou Andong's flight departed at 10:10, and when the plane landed at Coconut City Yingying Mountain Airport, it was exactly 11:00. Before the plane had come to a complete stop, a flight attendant and two air police officers quickly approached Zhou Andong.
The flight attendant bent over and whispered: "Mr. Zhou, the reception staff are already waiting. Please follow me."
Zhou Andong had been wearing a hat and sunglasses the whole way, and no one had recognized him, including the flight attendant. Now, the flight attendant had somehow pinpointed him so accurately—probably the tower had notified the crew.
Zhou Andong tilted his head to look at the flight attendant beside him, pushed his glasses down a bit to reveal his eyes: "Was it the tower that notified you guys on the crew that I was on the plane?"
The flight attendant pursed her lips and smiled, nodding: "Yes!"
"Wife, let's go!" Zhou Andong sighed, said to Jia Qiu beside him, stood up, and took down his suitcase.
"Please follow me." The flight attendant made a gesturing motion, and at the same time the plane came to a complete stop.
Other passengers had already started packing their luggage, and the two air police officers stood at the aisle entrance shouting: "All passengers, there is a special situation now, please wait patiently for a few minutes."
Passengers who were unfastening seatbelts, retrieving luggage, putting on clothes, and holding children heard the air police's words, all stopped moving, looked puzzled at the two air police officers. Then, their gaze shifted to the backs of Zhou Andong and Jia Qiu following the flight attendant away.
Tang Lin and Zhang Zuo stood up to follow, but an air police officer raised a hand and pointed, shouting sharply: "You two, return to your seats immediately."
Zhang Zuo's eyes widened, he was about to speak, but Tang Lin stopped him, then smiled at the air police officer: "Sorry, it's no problem if we wait a bit longer."
Tang Lin pulled Zhang Zuo back to his seat and sat down. Zhang Zuo, suppressing his anger, said: "Old Lin, what's the meaning of this? Are you indulging their bad habits?"
"Cut the crap!" Tang Lin lowered his voice: "They're doing Elder Brother Dong a favor. If you kick up a fuss over this, aren't you just putting Elder Brother Dong on the fire to roast? Besides, Elder Brother Dong came to Coconut City for important matters. If you mess around recklessly and delay his affairs, what then?"
Zhang Zuo opened his mouth, but in the end just let out a cold snort and said nothing more.
Murmurs buzzed inside the cabin as someone looked out the window and saw more than ten small cars parked outside. Beside the first car stood a group of people, appearing to be twenty or thirty in number.
"Look, there are many cars and many people outside."
"Could they be here to pick up that man and woman just now?"
"Take away the 'not'—they're definitely here to pick them up."
"Really!"
"Damn, who are they? Such a big show."
"To be able to drive cars here to pick someone up, their status must not be simple."
"You're talking nonsense—if you can drive cars here to pick someone up, having money alone won't cut it; you must have power."
Hearing the chatter, many people squeezed forward to see what was going on. But there were too many people, and those by the window wouldn't make space, so they couldn't see anything at all.
At this moment, Li Guoji was enthusiastically introducing the reception staff to Zhou Andong: "Mr. Zhou, Ms. Jia, this is Feng Xin, director of the Provincial Investment Promotion Office; Chen Nianrong, director of the Provincial Government Reception Office; Yao Mingchen, director of the Municipal Commerce Bureau..."
After the introductions, Li Guoji invited Zhou Andong and Jia Qiu to board a Buick business vehicle.
On the plane, the flight attendant returned to the cabin and nodded at the two air police officers: "You may release them."
The two air police officers returned a salute to the passengers: "Thank you for your cooperation. Please disembark in an orderly manner, no crowding."
Tang Lin and Zhang Zuo deplaned with their backpacks, exited the arrival hall, and stood outside the airport, dazed.
"Damn!" Zhang Zuo cursed: "Where do they live? We don't know."
Tang Lin rubbed his chin: "I don't even know if sister-in-law's pager can get a signal."
Zhang Zuo hesitated: "In Yangcheng, pagers can receive signals, so they must have set up nationwide roaming."
Tang Lin said helplessly: "Then let's find a phone booth and try sending a page."
Zhang Zuo pointed to a roadside phone booth not far away: "There's a phone booth over there."
The two staggered toward the phone booth, where two people were already in line. They weren't in a hurry either, after all, the car was en route—even if they got a page, they couldn't possibly reply.
They didn't know what the person ahead was chatting about—one phone call had gone on for over ten minutes and still wasn't finished. Originally, a few more people had queued behind them, but seeing this situation, they all left one by one.
The person second in line was a dark-skinned, strong and sturdy young man who had obviously been glaring impatiently, suppressing his anger as he said: "Brother, wrap it up soon—there are still quite a few people waiting behind you."
The guy on the phone glanced back, then acted as if he hadn't heard, continued covering the mouthpiece and chatting, occasionally laughing twice. But this guy's laugh, no matter how you listened to it, sounded lewd. Especially those small eyes of his—when he laughed, they darted about shiftily, giving the impression this kid had impure thoughts.
