Chapter 114: Xia Nuannuan's little habit
Not letting Xia Nuannuan help, Qin Tian ended up taking one of the bags from Zhang Peng's hands himself.
He considered it a gesture of pity for his good son.
Without waiting for the two who hadn't arrived yet, the four of them entered the residential complex together.
This was a relatively old complex in Yucheng, a bit far from the Fourth Middle School.
The main gate of the complex was open during the day and didn't stop outsiders from entering.
Liao Juan had a good relationship with the Class Monitor and had been to her house a few times.
She led the three of them straight to the Class Monitor's door and knocked.
"Coming!"
The Class Monitor's voice came from inside, and the door opened quickly.
The Class Monitor, Mu Nan, was still holding a broom; it looked like she had just been cleaning.
"Morning, Class Monitor!"
Xia Nuannuan greeted her with a sweet smile.
"Morning, you guys are here. Come on in!"
Mu Nan welcomed them into the house with a bright smile and said, "No need to change shoes, just come in!"
The four followed her inside, their curious gazes sweeping around.
It was a three-bedroom, one-living-room layout, about a hundred square meters, with a balcony that had great sunlight.
The TV in the living room was on, and on the coffee table were some loose snacks and freshly washed fruit, which also looked like they had just been bought.
Mu Nan invited everyone to sit on the living room sofa and took the ingredients Liao Juan had brought into the kitchen.
"What would you guys like to drink? There's soda and milk in the fridge."
"Class Monitor, no need, I bought some!"
Qin Tian pointed to the two bags placed on the coffee table.
"Alright, you bought way too much. Are you here to study or to have a feast?"
Mu Nan teased with a laugh.
"Studying and feasting don't interfere with each other!"
Qin Tian shrugged.
Everyone couldn't help but laugh upon hearing this.
After sitting and chatting for a while, they heard a knock on the door again.
Mu Nan hurried over to open it.
Unsurprisingly, it was Cui Ying and Qiu Man arriving together.
Both of them were carrying a bag, which contained some ingredients they had bought.
After everyone exchanged brief greetings, they sat around the dining table in the living room, which had already been cleared, and took out their study materials.
The table was a long one, with three seats on each side and two at each end.
Out of habit, Qin Tian still sat on Xia Nuannuan's left, just like in the classroom.
Everyone was very tacit about it and intentionally left that seat for him.
As for the seat on Qin Tian's left, everyone else had originally wanted it, since being close made it convenient to ask Teacher Qin for guidance.
But Zhang Peng, that guy, was quick-eyed and fast-handed, and he occupied it first.
The Class Monitor, Mu Nan, Cui Ying, and Qiu Man could only occupy the two ends of the table.
There were already quite a few snacks and drinks in the middle of the table, and everyone started studying quietly while eating snacks.
Qin Tian rested his cheek on one hand, flipping through a foreign novel Mu Nan had brought for him.
Mu Nan's father also liked to read, and there were quite a few books in the master bedroom.
A bit above the space between Qin Tian and Xia Nuannuan, there was a bag of opened potato chips.
Xia Nuannuan held a pencil in her right hand, working on a test paper the math teacher had handed out before the holiday, while her free left hand would reach over from time to time to take a chip and eat it.
Her movements were quite practiced; the process of eating chips didn't affect her thinking at all.
It was easy to guess that she must have often done this when studying at home.
"Crunch... crunch..."
Like a hamster eating cornflakes, the slight crisp sound would ring out beside him from time to time.
Qin Tian had just finished reading a page and glanced over with curiosity.
He saw Xia Nuannuan pinching a chip with two fingers of her left hand—the chip was already half-eaten—while her right hand held the pencil, circling and drawing on the key information of a multiple-choice question on the paper, her brows furrowed in thought as she worked out the solution.
Suddenly, she seemed to have thought of something; her furrowed brows relaxed, and her pencil quickly started calculating on the scratch paper.
Before long, she wrote an "A" after the multiple-choice question on the paper, her eyes curved into crescents, and she opened her mouth wide, eating the remaining chip with an "aww" sound.
As if she had treated this half-chip as a reward for herself, she ate it with an expression of enjoyment, her mouth making crisp crunching sounds, and a slight, proud smile hung on her small face.
"Pfft!"
Qin Tian was amused by this scene and quickly forced himself to hold back his laughter.
Xia Nuannuan blinked her big eyes and looked at him with a confused expression.
Qin Tian pretended to be serious and turned a page of the book, as if nothing had happened.
However, Xia Nuannuan was already very familiar with him.
From his obviously slightly forced serious expression and the slightly twitching corners of his mouth, Xia Nuannuan quickly guessed something.
Her pretty face turned red at a visible speed; she raised her left hand in slight embarrassment, pressed down the opening of the chip bag, and pushed it toward Qin Tian.
Qin Tian looked at the bag of chips and pretended to look at her with a blank expression.
"I'm not eating anymore, you eat it, finish it."
Xia Nuannuan puffed up her cheeks in anger and said in a low voice.
Afterward, she turned her head away to continue working on the questions, and her left hand was placed under the table to prevent herself from habitually reaching for things to eat.
She was, of course, very aware of this bad little habit of hers.
During this period of dieting, she would often do this when studying hard, her left hand reaching out unconsciously only to find nothing.
Qin Tian couldn't help but smile; he took a bottle of Wangzai Milk from the table, unscrewed it, and gently pushed it over, with the doll's smiling face pattern facing her.
"A bit thirsty, right? Have something to drink?"
He lowered his voice and said.
The right corner of Xia Nuannuan's mouth curled up slightly, then quickly retracted, and she gave him a sidelong glance with a straight face.
Qin Tian took one from an opened bag of milk candies, tore off the packaging, handed it to her, and said with a chuckle, "Eat a candy too, it helps activate brain cells."
"Hmph!"
Xia Nuannuan hummed proudly, reached out to take the milk candy and put it in her mouth, and took a small sip of the milk.
The taste of sweetness upon sweetness made a pair of shallow dimples appear quietly on her exquisite and cute little face.
"Ahem!"
Someone nearby coughed twice.
Xia Nuannuan turned her head to look.
Class Monitor Mu Nan was looking at her helplessly, reminding her with a serious face, "Pay attention, this is a study session!"
Xia Nuannuan's face instantly flushed, and she quickly put down the milk in her hand, lowered her head, and continued to work on the questions seriously.
Qin Tian, having a thicker skin, smiled calmly and continued reading his book.
Liao Juan patted her good friend on the shoulder and said with a motherly smile, "You'll get used to it."
Mu Nan leaned into her ear and whispered, "Before, in the classroom, we were quite far apart, but now I've finally experienced what the classmates around them feel."
"Same here!"
Liao Juan nodded in deep agreement.
Except for the two of them, Zhang Peng and the other two were lucky enough to escape unscathed, as they were sitting further away and didn't have this dog food force-fed to them. ===== CHAPTER 115 =====
