Chapter 483: The Father and Son Who Backstab Each Other

~8 min read 1,410 words

Since Qin Hongwen was driving today, there was naturally no need to take the national highway.

It only took about an hour and a half on the expressway to reach home.

The time was past seven in the evening, and the sky had already turned completely dark.

First, they dropped Xia Nuannuan off at the entrance of her residential complex.

"Brother, Uncle Qin, I'll be going now."

Xia Nuannuan picked up her backpack, which contained some changes of clothes and skincare products, and bid the two of them farewell with a beaming smile.

"Let Xiao Tian take you up!"

Qin Hongwen turned his head and said.

"I'll take you."

Qin Tian also added, reaching out to help her with her bag.

Xia Nuannuan dodged him and smilingly declined, "No need to take me, I can go up by myself. Brother, please give my regards to Auntie for me; I'll go see her tomorrow."

"Let me take you; it's only a matter of minutes, and it's a good chance to say hello to Auntie Su."

Qin Tian insisted.

"Really, there's no need. Just come over for dinner tomorrow; let Uncle Qin and you head back first."

Xia Nuannuan still refused, opening the car door to get out, and stood outside waving goodbye to the two of them.

"Bye-bye, see you tomorrow!"

"Bye-bye!"

Qin Tian waved his hand.

Xia Nuannuan closed the car door, turned around, and walked into the complex, looking back every few steps and waving to signal them to head back quickly.

"Get some rest early!"

Qin Tian shouted at her.

"Okay!"

Xia Nuannuan responded loudly and playfully blew him a kiss from a distance.

Qin Hongwen glanced at his son through the rearview mirror, smiled slightly, and drove away.

By the time they were about to exit the expressway, Mom had already called; perhaps she had calculated that they would arrive at this time, as she was standing at the entrance, craning her neck in anticipation.

The light in the main room was on, and the bright glow shone upon her, making the father and son, who saw this scene from afar while sitting in the car, feel the warmth of returning home in their hearts.

Once the car got closer and she saw the license plate number clearly, a bright smile instantly bloomed on Tang Xiuxia's face.

Soon, the car stopped at the entrance.

Qin Tian opened the car door first and stepped out from the back seat.

"Mom, I'm back."

"Oh!"

Tang Xiuxia responded with a beaming smile and asked, "Where is Nuan Nuan?"

"Dropped her off first."

"Oh, oh, then let her come over for dinner tomorrow."

Tang Xiuxia smiled, then looked toward the driver's seat of the car.

Seeing this, the corner of Qin Tian's eye twitched slightly, and his chest felt inexplicably tight.

Qin Hongwen also opened the car door and stepped out with a smile on his face.

The two said nothing, merely gazing at each other with gentle eyes.

"Why are you standing outside so late? Aren't you cold?"

Qin Tian spoke up directly, breaking the atmosphere that made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.

"Ah? It's fine, it's fine, I'm not cold."

Tang Xiuxia snapped out of it, withdrew her gaze to look at her son, and asked in a somewhat flustered manner, "Are you two hungry? Shall I go cook some noodles for you?"

"We ate at the cafeteria in the afternoon, I'm not hungry."

Qin Tian replied.

"How about you?"

Tang Xiuxia cast an inquiring look toward Qin Hongwen.

"I'm not hungry either, no need to go to the trouble."

Qin Hongwen smiled and declined.

"Then come inside and sit for a while."

Tang Xiuxia invited.

Qin Hongwen did not reply, his gaze shifting to his son.

He had said before that without this son's permission, he would not rashly step into this home again.

"I'll go find a hotel later; our house doesn't have an extra room."

Qin Tian dropped this sentence and then walked straight into the house.

Qin Hongwen and Tang Xiuxia exchanged a look, both of their faces showing happy smiles.

"Mom, I'm going to take a shower and go to sleep."

"Why are you sleeping so early? Come over and sit for a while to chat."

"You guys chat!"

"Come over!!"

Tang Xiuxia frowned and deepened her tone.

Qin Tian stopped in his tracks, turned around with a helpless expression, and followed her into the front room.

The television was playing a prime-time drama on Mango TV, and on the coffee table lay a pile of uncleaned sunflower seed shells and orange peels.

Qin Tian sat down on the sofa placed inside, picked up an ugly orange from the coffee table, and began to peel it.

He had been cooped up in the car the whole way and was feeling a bit thirsty.

"How come you two are back today? I thought it would be tomorrow!"

Tang Xiuxia asked while pouring two cups of hot tea.

Just as Qin Tian was reaching out to take one, he noticed his mother pick up a cup and hand it to the man on the other side first.

The corners of his mouth twitched violently, and he glared over with a sharp gaze.

Qin Hongwen took the cup with both hands, glanced at him, and replied with a light chuckle: "Everything was finished, so we came back early; it's fast taking the highway anyway."

Tang Xiuxia nodded slightly: "That's true, Xiaotian hasn't had his driver's license for a full year yet, and he always took the national highway with Nuan Nuan before."

Seeing that his mother had no intention of handing the tea to him, Qin Tian took it himself with a dark face, looked toward the television, and brought his mouth directly to it, nearly getting burned.

"Didn't you say you were giving a lecture at Xiaotian's school this afternoon? How did it go?"

"It was quite good. The students at their school were very enthusiastic; the classroom was full, over a thousand people!"

"Is that so? You give a lecture and you're that popular?"

Tang Xiuxia looked at him with a face full of surprise.

Qin Hongwen smiled, and just as he was about to explain, he was interrupted by a sarcastic voice.

"More than just popular, he's especially popular with the girls!"

Qin Hongwen's eyes widened, and he looked at his son, who had suddenly backstabbed him, with a face full of disbelief.

Tang Xiuxia also glanced at her son in astonishment, the smile on her face fading slightly as she slowly turned her head to look at Qin Hongwen again.

Qin Hongwen's hand shook, and the hot tea in the cup nearly splashed out and burned his hand.

"Cough, cough... about that, let me explain..."

"No, stop right there, I can't be bothered to listen."

Tang Xiuxia raised her hand to stop him.

Sitting on the other side, Qin Tian sipped his tea contentedly and laughed with schadenfreude in his heart.

Just then, he heard his mother add: "You two are truly father and son; you're both cut from the same cloth."

Qin Tian paused, looked at his mother with a puzzled expression, and said seriously: "Mom, I don't understand what you mean by that. What did I do?"

"You didn't do anything? You'd better think carefully."

Tang Xiuxia stared at him with a playful gaze.

"I didn't! I'm very devoted, I only have eyes for Nuan Nuan, okay!"

Qin Tian said in a firm tone.

"Then tell me, what's the deal with that girl who moved into the floor above you two days ago?"

Tang Xiuxia asked with a sunken face.

Qin Tian's expression stiffened, and he was completely dumbfounded.

"Well? Speak up, what's going on?"

Tang Xiuxia urged.

Black lines dropped down Qin Tian's forehead, and he glared at Qin Hongwen over there, gritting his teeth.

He was very familiar with Xia Nuannuan; she would never do something like snitching to his mom.

So, it was obvious who the culprit was.

Qin Hongwen lowered his head to drink tea, feigning composure and pretending that none of this had anything to do with him.

He was also having a headache right now; wasn't it agreed that they would find a suitable opportunity to give him a warning?

Now look at this; he had originally felt that his relationship with his son had improved, but now he feared it was back to square one.
