Chapter 113: Can't Keep It Hidden Anymore
The two of them only locked eyes for a second, yet both were struck with alarm.
Although Yingzi had a facial mask on, the skin exposed around the mask was fair and delicate, several shades lighter than Yingzi's usual skin tone, and visibly younger.
Shi Youxuan was thinking: Why did Sheng Hanyu come here?
She hurriedly went back to tear off the mask and quickly put the disguise mask on.
Then she applied makeup over the mask; even with quick movements, a few minutes had passed by the time she was finished.
Outside the door, Jian Yining, who had returned after leaving, was already arguing with Sheng Hanyu.
Jian Yining had come back to retrieve his phone, only to see Sheng Hanyu standing by the door with his brows tightly locked, looking lost in thought.
An ominous premonition immediately rose in his heart; when he was chatting with Yingzi just now, she wasn't wearing a mask... Hadn't Sheng Hanyu already discovered the truth?
"How did you find your way here?" Jian Yining acted as if facing a formidable enemy.
Sheng Hanyu didn't waste words with him, asking straight to the point: "Who exactly is Yingzi? You know the truth of the matter, don't you?"
"Yingzi is Yingzi. You answer my question first—what truth of the matter? I don't understand what you're talking about..."
Jian Yining refused to answer directly, so Sheng Hanyu became aggressive, and the two began to argue.
Then Shi Youxuan opened the door: "What are you arguing about? If you want to argue, go outside to argue; don't argue at my door." After finishing, she shoved the phone into Jian Yining's arms and went to close the door—it didn't close!
Sheng Hanyu kept his hand on the handle and said to Yingzi very seriously: "I want to talk to you."
"Fine, come in."
She let go of the handle, and both of them started to walk inside.
Sheng Hanyu blocked Jian Yining: "I have something to discuss with her alone; you step aside."
Jian Yining refused: "No, what you say doesn't count. I'll only leave if Yingzi tells me to." After finishing, he said to Yingzi: "Do you want to talk to him alone?"
Of course she didn't; Yingzi especially didn't want to be alone with Sheng Hanyu right now.
So she replied: "No, I have nothing that needs to be discussed with him alone; you both come in."
Jian Yining gave Sheng Hanyu a provocative look; although he didn't speak, the meaning was expressed very clearly: How about that? Yingzi is still closer to me; you have no chance.
Sheng Hanyu ignored him.
The three sat down on the sofa, and Sheng Hanyu stared at Yingzi from beginning to end, not even blinking his eyes.
It finally provoked a protest from the two.
Jian Yining stood between the two, blocking his line of sight, and asked fiercely: "What are you looking at? You're being too much. Is there anyone who stares at a girl like that? Let me tell you, Yingzi is my girlfriend. Don't you have my sister in your heart? Restrain yourself."
Yingzi remained as simple and crude as ever: "Keep looking and I'll dig your eyeballs out."
Sheng Hanyu pushed Jian Yining aside, completely ignoring that remark, and continued to stare straight at Yingzi, saying word by word: "Who are you?"
"Nonsense, I am Yingzi."
"Nonsense, she is Yingzi."
Jian Yining and Yingzi spoke in unison.
Sheng Hanyu shook his head: "Yingzi's hometown is far from the sea, yet she says she has loved eating seafood since she was a child. All of Yingzi's growth trajectory was abroad, yet she has a Jiangzhou accent. Yingzi's classmates and good friends all say they have a good relationship with her, yet she has no interaction with them at all..."
Cold sweat broke out on both of them.
Sheng Hanyu didn't play by the rules; the information Jian Yining made for Yingzi was impeccable, but the questions he raised were all fatal flaws that simply couldn't be covered up!
Just as Shi Youxuan was about to be unable to hold out and was preparing to confess.
Sheng Hanyu's tone suddenly shifted: "Tell me the truth, do you know Yixin or not?"
The topic changed too quickly, so fast that Shi Youxuan had no preparation at all, and subconsciously said: "I don't know her."
Sheng Hanyu: "You haven't met her?"
Shi Youxuan hardened her heart: "I haven't met her."
It wouldn't do to not tell the truth; if you tell one lie, you have to use a hundred lies to cover it up.
Sheng Hanyu's sudden appearance caught her off guard; if she lost her footing now, no secret would be safe.
Jian Yining didn't interrupt, turning his head to the side with an attitude of "it has nothing to do with me."
Sheng Hanyu understood in his heart that these two shared a common secret, and the only person they were guarding against was him.
He felt a bit unsettled, very uncomfortable, though he couldn't say why.
Yingzi said she hadn't met Jian Yixin; although he was disappointed, it was within his expectations. Ever since the Apartment fire, he had become a hero of that residential complex and had taken the opportunity to find out quite a few things.
For example, the property management said that although women occasionally went to the Apartment, they never went in the middle of the night. It was always during the day, and there were indeed two people: one was Yingzi and the other was the cleaning lady.
He had also looked for that cleaning lady, and she said she had been cleaning the Apartment for several years but hadn't found any traces of two people living there.
If two people had lived there, and according to Yingzi's claim that Jian Yixin often went there, there would have been some traces, but there were none—not a single bit!
Now that things had been brought into the open, it was time for Sheng Hanyu to reveal the answer to the mystery.
"Since you haven't met Jian Yixin, why did you lie to me back then?"
Shi Youxuan was stubborn: "Nonsense, your eyes looked like you wanted to eat someone at the time. If I didn't say I knew her, wouldn't you have strangled me on the spot? I had no choice but to protect myself."
He asked again: "What's the deal with that red box in the storage room?"
Shi Youxuan was full of excuses: "That's my box, and the clothes inside are mine too. You insisted on believing it was Jian Yixin's. I thought you were having a hard time, so I left you a memento and didn't expose it. No need to thank me; this is what I should have done..."
Sheng Hanyu: "The password on the box is Yixin's birthday..."
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Jian Yining: "Sorry, I helped Yingzi buy that box, and I set the password on a whim. My sister and I are fraternal twins; we share the same birthday!"
Sheng Hanyu looked at that face of his—which was beautiful enough to charm both men and women—and only two words were in his heart: beat him!
But in the end, he restrained himself.
After all, there were still many things to ask; although one question was cleared up, there were more that needed to be resolved!
It was just that the two people in front of him seemed different from what he had imagined. Yingzi had already stood up, preparing to send him away: "Alright, the misunderstanding has been cleared up, please leave. Our company has a meeting to hold; it's not convenient for you to stay here."
Yingzi was only speaking to send him away, but Jian Yining was already using action to show it.
He pulled Sheng Hanyu and pushed him toward the outside: "Chairman Sheng, our Tianma is about to hold an internal meeting; you should go back first."
Sheng Hanyu glanced at the two of them with a meaningful look, but he said nothing and left the Apartment.
"Bang!"
The door was shut from the inside, and Jian Yining peered through the peephole for a long time; only after confirming that Sheng Hanyu had truly left did he turn back to the living room, intending to ask Yingzi what she planned to do next.
There was no one in the living room.
However, there was movement in the bedroom.
He followed her in and saw—the wardrobe was open, and Yingzi was haphazardly stuffing the clothes inside into a suitcase.
Seeing him enter, Yingzi said, "He left, right? I'm going outside to hide; if anything comes up, we'll keep in touch on QQ."
Jian Yining went over and "slap" shut the suitcase: "You can't leave. You can hide from the first day of the lunar month, but you can't hide from the fifteenth; you can't just never come back, can you?"
Yingzi was anxious: "Of course I'll come back, of course I'll come back, but I haven't figured out how to face him yet; I'll return once I've thought it through."
Jian Yining still wouldn't move aside, so she went to brush his hand away: "Move aside, I won't say anything if you don't help me right now, but you can't hold me back. Hurry and let go, I'm afraid if he comes back in a moment, I won't be able to leave."
Jian Yining grabbed her hand in return and said earnestly, "Yingzi, will you be my girlfriend?"
