Chapter 122: I Want a Divorce
Sheng Hanyu let go of Shi Youxuan and went upstairs without a word.
Yun Zhehao and Sheng Zerong looked at each other, neither knowing what to say for a moment.
They had come to gossip, but it ended in such an unpleasant parting?
Neither of them knew whether to leave or stay; it was quite awkward.
"Sheng Hanyu, I want a divorce!" Shi Youxuan was furious; she stomped her feet and shouted at the floor above, and not content with just shouting, she chased after him.
She had finally realized, albeit belatedly, that she had been offended, and that Sheng Hanyu had only done it as a means to assert his ownership just to spite Jian Yining.
By what right?
She, Shi Youxuan, was not an object; she did not belong to anyone, only to herself.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The door to the Study was pounded heavily, and Shi Youxuan flew into a rage: "Sheng Hanyu, open the door! I want a divorce from you, let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now. Don't hide in the room like a coward, do you hear me..."
The door opened, and Sheng Hanyu grabbed her, pulled her inside, and "bang," shut the door.
"What did you just say? Say it again!" His expression was very grim.
"I want a... a divorce." Shi Youxuan swallowed, not knowing why she suddenly felt so lacking in confidence.
Sheng Hanyu stepped closer, his hawk-like eyes fixed on her: "After divorcing me, are you going to marry Jian Yining?"
Shi Youxuan had never thought of such a thing at all; her mind was still on the forced kiss from earlier. Sheng Hanyu suddenly mentioning Jian Yining made her feel he was a jerk who didn't care about anyone else's feelings at all.
"Yes, once I divorce you, I will marry Jian Yining." Provoked, Shi Youxuan blurted it out.
"In your dreams. I absolutely will not divorce you, and don't you even think about marrying anyone else."
Sheng Hanyu called for his bodyguards, telling them to "escort" the Eldest Young Mistress back to the bedroom to be kept under watch, and he even had the computer in the bedroom taken away so she could not contact the outside world.
Holding a teddy bear, Shi Youxuan sat from morning until dusk.
During this time, the housekeeper came in twice to bring her breakfast and dinner, but she didn't touch a single bite of the sumptuous food, and she didn't even drink a drop of water.
She didn't make a fuss or a scene; she just sat there, motionless.
The housekeeper came out of the bedroom to report to Sheng Hanyu: "Eldest Young Master, the Eldest Young Mistress has been sitting in the corner for a whole day now. She hasn't eaten anything, hasn't said a word, and hasn't even had a drop of water. You should go and check on her."
Both Sheng Hanyu and the housekeeper knew how lively Shi Youxuan usually was.
Someone who was usually a chatterbox was now not saying a single word.
Sheng Hanyu knew she was angry, but he didn't know how to face her either, so he said to the housekeeper: "You go and keep her company; she probably doesn't want to see me."
"Alright."
The housekeeper didn't really know how to persuade her either, but she had never disobeyed an order from the Eldest Young Master, so she went back in.
"Eldest Young Mistress, you and the Eldest Young Master are husband and wife; husband and wife shouldn't always have the word 'divorce' on their lips..."
Before she could finish, her words were cut off by Shi Youxuan: "Get out."
Her tone was very similar to Sheng Hanyu's—not because she was imitating him, but because of that air of unchallengeable authority that comes from being in a superior position for a long time.
The housekeeper knew that saying more was useless, but she couldn't help but add a few more words: "Eldest Young Mistress, I won't try to persuade you, but even if you are angry with the Eldest Young Master, you still need to eat. You shouldn't mistreat your own body."
"I don't want to eat."
She truly had no appetite at all.
How could Sheng Hanyu be like this?
Forcing a kiss on her in front of others—what did he take her for? As his, Sheng Hanyu's, personal property?
Those people weren't just anyone; they were business partners whom she would have to see again in the future. How was she supposed to face them after this?
The housekeeper tried to persuade her a few more times, but it was of no use, so she shook her head, sighed, and went out.
In the evening, Sheng Hanyu came over after all. He hadn't wanted to come, but he couldn't control his feet, and he didn't know why he had come.
"Why aren't you eating?"
The tone was condescending.
Shi Youxuan wouldn't fall for that; she let out a "Hmph!" through her nose, then turned her head toward the window, ignoring him.
The housekeeper brought in hot food and took away the original meal that had long since gone cold. Sheng Hanyu personally set out the bowl and chopsticks for her and called out: "Come over and eat."
She heard him, but she didn't move from her spot.
Sheng Hanyu stood by the table, neither impatient nor angry: "I'll count to three. If you don't come over yourself, I can come over and carry you."
Carry?
Shi Youxuan immediately thought of the forced kiss from yesterday. If she didn't go over, would that be equivalent to tacit consent?
She wanted to stand up, but as soon as she moved, she realized her legs were numb; she couldn't stand and nearly fell.
Sheng Hanyu kindly helped her up; it was truly just a helping hand with no other meaning.
But Shi Youxuan misunderstood. She retreated nervously, and because she backed away too violently, she bumped into the wall, wincing in pain.
"Do you hate me that much?" Sheng Hanyu frowned.
In the past, Shi Youxuan also didn't want to have contact with him, and he could have interpreted that as her hiding her identity for fear of him finding out. But now that her identity was exposed, if she was still this defensive and distant toward him, was it because she hated him?
Her shoulder hurt from the bump, and on top of that, she was still angry about the forced kiss. Since Sheng Hanyu asked, she just followed his lead and said: "Yes, I hate you. I especially hate you."
She rubbed her shoulder, and after a few rubs, it felt a bit better and her legs weren't as numb. She was about to eat when she looked up and met Sheng Hanyu's hawk-like eyes.
It gave her a start: "Don't look at me with that gaze. If you look again, I'll dig your eyeballs out." She was purely bluffing, using a facade of toughness to cover her inner unease.
"Do you like Jian Yining?" Sheng Hanyu ignored Shi Youxuan's threat and asked the question that had tormented him all night.
Jian Yining and Shi Youxuan had known each other for a long time, and the two were business partners. He knew that Jian Yining liked Shi Youxuan. If Shi Youxuan also liked Jian Yining, should he let them be?
If two people are in love, they should be together.
Jian Yining was right; a marriage without love is immoral.
But for some reason, his heart ached!
"I do." Shi Youxuan admitted it.
It's just that the "like" she spoke of and the "like" Sheng Hanyu understood were not the same thing.
Although Shi Youxuan's IQ is off the charts, her EQ is truly not great.
All of her intelligence and talent are used on studying stocks and how to make money; she is completely clueless about romantic feelings between men and women.
She understands "like" as simply not hating someone, and it has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to be in a relationship with the person one "likes," or even living together for a lifetime.
Mentioning Jian Yining, Shi Youxuan switches to chatterbox mode, endlessly counting off his various merits.
"He never forces me to do things I don't like, he is always smiling every day, takes me to eat delicious food, tells me jokes, keeps me company to chat, unlike you, who always wears an ice-cold face..."
After praising Jian Yining, she starts listing Sheng Hanyu's various "crimes": cold, overbearing, dictatorial, insisting on having the final say, chauvinistic...
"Enough."
Sheng Hanyu does not like listening to this.
No one would like their wife praising another man to their face while criticizing them, and he is no exception.
Shi Youxuan was in the middle of a roll and felt a bit unhappy at being interrupted, but she quickly discovered another thing that could make her even happier!
"You don't like listening to it?"
She flutters her big eyes and argues righteously: "I just praised Jian Yining a few times and you don't like hearing it? Then what about when you ditched me to go all over the world to find Jian Yixin?"
Sheng Hanyu says: "Do you consider this being jealous?"
"No, I am not," Shi Youxuan denies.
