Chapter 1475: Yuxin's First Visit

~8 min read 1,511 words

Li Dashao had worked in the culinary industry for over a decade and could be considered a veteran chef.

Originally, he hadn't thought much of Sheng Zichen, disliking him for being too young and assuming that his position as a judge was due to pulling strings, that he was just barking orders, and that he lacked any real skill.

But after witnessing Zichen's abilities, he admired Sheng Zichen greatly, yet due to his pride, he had never come to find him.

Li Dashao really wanted to be friends with Sheng Zichen, but he also had his reservations.

Not only was the other party's culinary skill remarkable, but he was also a student at a prestigious university; Li Dashao felt he was just a rough man, felt inferior, and was too embarrassed to come.

He also didn't know what to say once they met, so he agonized over it for two days, agonizing right up until he realized that if he didn't find him now, he would never have the chance, and only then did he make up his mind to come over.

Li Dashao had assumed that adding Zichen on WeChat wouldn't be that easy, but the result was unexpectedly smooth.

After adding him on WeChat, he breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave, but was called back by Zichen: "Brother Dashao."

"Ah, is something the matter?" Li Dashao's face flushed red.

He didn't know what his parents were thinking back then when they named him "Li Dashao," and having been called "Dashao" his whole life, this was the first time someone had added the word "Brother" after "Dashao," and it actually sounded quite nice.

"That's right, I'd like to book a table at your restaurant for New Year's Eve dinner; could you save me a good spot?"

Zichen hadn't been idle these past two days; he had already thoroughly looked into Li Dashao's background.

Li Dashao was a few years older than him, hadn't had much schooling, was bad at studying when he was young, and didn't like it either; plus, his family situation wasn't very good, so he dropped out before finishing middle school.

He became an apprentice at a restaurant at the time partly because he liked it, and partly because Li Dashao's father was the head chef in the kitchen, so following in his father's footsteps was considered a proper career.

He started as an apprentice, then moved on to vegetable preparation, cold dishes, pastry, and hot dishes; in just three short years, Li Dashao had risen to the position of Second Chef.

And after sitting in the Second Chef position for only a year, he took a group of brothers and went out on his own.

Over these years, his culinary skills had improved more and more, and he had opened his own restaurant.

And the location of his restaurant was not far from the Sheng Family.

That was why Zichen had proposed the request to book the New Year's Eve dinner at his restaurant.

"Sure thing, I'll save you the best private room." He grinned, revealing a row of white teeth.

"Great, it's a deal then, don't you forget."

"I won't forget."

Although Li Dashao didn't have much education, he valued brotherhood; he felt that Zichen wanting to eat New Year's Eve dinner at his shop was giving him face, so of course he couldn't forget, and he would definitely prepare it well.

Zichen was preparing to leave, and Huo Zhenteng also hurried over to see him off.

Huo Zhenteng took a business card from his bag and handed it over: "You've been busy and I've been busy these past few days, and we haven't had a good chance to chat. If you have time, come to the shop to find me, or I can come to the school to find you. Would you welcome that?"

"Welcome? Of course I would. May I add you on WeChat?" Zichen asked.

Huo Zhenteng smiled and took out his phone; it was actually a senior-friendly phone!

"I don't have WeChat, my apologies."

"You use this kind of phone?"

Zichen was very surprised.

You have to know that even his grandparents used smartphones; Huo Zhenteng understood everything and knew so much internet slang, yet he used a senior phone—it was just too unbelievable.

"That's right."

Huo Zhenteng seemed to be able to see through Sheng Zichen's thoughts and said: "I don't like using WeChat; it feels like being watched by someone at all times, haha."

"You are very thoughtful."

……

After Zichen said goodbye to everyone one by one, he prepared to go home.

And at this moment, his girlfriend Gu Yuxin proposed that she was going home and would see him at school after the New Year.

A couple in the heat of love is naturally reluctant to separate; even for a short parting, they are unwilling.

Zichen held Yuxin's hand: "When you came out, didn't you say you'd be out for a week? It's only been three days. Come home with me to take a look, play at my place for a few days, and then I'll send you back."

Yuxin: "No way, we're still young..."

"Where is your mind at? We have guest rooms at home; you can stay in one by yourself."

Yuxin had indeed overthought it.

There were indeed many couples on the university campus who would go out to rent rooms or even live together not long after they started dating.

But the two of them hadn't; they were limited to holding hands, and the most interaction they had was bickering.

She blushed, but couldn't admit she had overthought it: "Go to hell, stop with the humble-bragging in front of me. Of course I know you have guest rooms, but... without even giving a heads-up, isn't it a bit inappropriate for me to go home with you just like this?"

"Yo yo!"

Zichen teased: "Are you still the Gu Yuxin I know? With such a carefree personality, how have you become so meticulous now? I'll tell my family right now."

He had just taken out his phone when his wrist was pressed down by Gu Yuxin: "Don't tell them yet, I haven't told my family either."

"Alright, then you tell them first."

Gu Yuxin called her mother and proposed that she wanted to go to her boyfriend's house to play for a few days before going back.

Her mother agreed, urging her to be polite when at someone else's house, to follow their rules, and not to be as willful as she was at home...

"My mom agreed."

She shook her phone happily and playfully stuck out her tongue: "Alright, now it's your turn to make the call."

Sheng Family.

Shi Youxuan received her son's call and was just about to put her hands on her hips and laugh out loud: "Hahahaha, Sheng Zichen, did you take the wrong medicine? Why do you need to ask for my opinion to bring Yuxin home? Of course I won't have any objections! Bring her back quickly; these past two days I've been almost annoyed to death by your younger brother and sister..."

As Zichen talked with his mother, Yuxin stood to the side, pricking up her ears to listen.

Her boyfriend's mother's words made her silently breathe a sigh of relief; the impression left from their last meeting hadn't been too great, and she had been worried that her future mother-in-law wouldn't like her, but now it seemed like there was no issue.

Yuxin decided to go home with Zichen, and the two boarded the bus to the city center.

After getting off the bus, they walked two steps and were at the entrance of the residential complex.

Yuxin, however, wouldn't go in; she wanted to go to the mall to buy gifts for the whole family.

Zichen: "No need to buy anything, my family has everything."

Yuxin: "Sheng Zichen, are you ever going to stop humble-bragging? Your family having everything is your family's business. If I don't buy some gifts the first time I visit your home, it would be a breach of etiquette, and your family would laugh at me. Don't tell me they wouldn't; you never come to my house empty-handed either..."

"I'll go with you!"

"That's more like it."

When the two of them carried large and small bags into the house, dinner was almost ready.

"You two finally made it back. I said I'd send someone to pick you up, but you insisted on taking the bus. Zichen has thick skin and is fine, but our Yuxin must be exhausted." Shi Youxuan took Yuxin's hand and didn't let go.

Zirui and Zihan came out to greet the guest, saying in unison: "Hello, sister-in-law."

"Hello, sister-in-law."

Yuxin blushed.

Shi Youxuan scolded her two sons: "Don't call her that randomly, call her sister. You have no manners at all."

The Gu family is a scholarly household, and she was worried that Yuxin might mind the form of address.

The two children agreed verbally, but—the form of address did not change!
