Chapter 160: Taking the Initiative to be the Scapegoat
Wang Yingzhi would never pass up any opportunity to show off. Seeing that Shi Yuke's attitude was quite good and guessing that nothing much was wrong, she simply admitted it: "She hasn't come back yet? I was just too angry at the time; she was always going against my son. If I, as a mother, didn't do anything, wouldn't she think our family was easy to bully?"
"If you hadn't pleaded for her, I would have let her continue to suffer inside. But since you've spoken up, I still have to give you this face. Don't worry, I'll go to the mental hospital to pick her up."
Shi Yuke's smile appeared much more sincere: "Thank you, Auntie, then I'll have to trouble you."
"It's no trouble at all. As long as you remember my kindness in the future, don't be like that ungrateful wretch of a mother-in-law of yours, using people when you need them and discarding them when you don't..."
Wang Yingzhi put on quite a show of authority at the Sheng Family, but she still wouldn't leave, beating around the bush to ask for benefits.
Shi Yuke had the servants open the storeroom and stuffed her mother-in-law's trunk full of precious Blood Bird's Nest, sea cucumber, abalone, shark fin, and the like!
It was stuffed so full that the trunk lid almost wouldn't close afterward.
Wang Yingzhi left feeling completely satisfied. She first went home to drop off the items—and of course, didn't miss the chance to brag to her husband—before heading to the mental hospital to pick up Bai Xue.
But by the time she arrived, Bai Xue had already been released. She had just left; the two of them had missed each other by mere moments!
Although she didn't have to put in any effort, Wang Yingzhi couldn't let the trip go to waste. She dialed Shi Yuke's phone to tell her that Bai Xue would be home soon, instructing her to prepare to welcome her mother-in-law, and even put on the airs of an elder to lecture Shi Yuke on how she should act.
If Wang Yingzhi had known that big trouble was waiting for her shortly after, she definitely wouldn't have taken this matter upon herself.
……
Bai Xue had only stayed in the mental hospital for a few days, yet she had lost a full ten pounds!
She was already quite aged, and after being tortured for these few days, her mind had become dazed.
When she was first forcibly taken to the mental hospital by doctors, she shouted that she wasn't sick. The doctors said that everyone who newly entered the hospital said the same thing, telling her not to make a scene and to wait for an examination, and that she would be released once the results were normal.
It sounded nice, but the examination wasn't immediate; she had to be observed for three days first. These three days nearly drove Bai Xue insane.
She was locked in a room with bars and couldn't get out at all.
She wasn't the only one in the room; there were three other patients also waiting for examinations.
Those three people had also been sent in by their families, but unlike her, they didn't resist or panic, remaining immersed in their own worlds, perfectly content.
One of them held an umbrella in the room because she firmly believed she was a mushroom!
If she wasn't allowed to hold the umbrella, she would scream and shout for help, crying that she couldn't go on living. The key was that if she could have stayed quiet while holding the umbrella, that would have been one thing, but she also had to water herself at irregular intervals!
Her reason was that mushrooms need water to grow. She got water everywhere, and all four people's beds were soaking wet, making it impossible to sleep.
This wasn't even the person who made Bai Xue break down the most. What made her break down the most was another person who fantasized that he lived in a desert and was a cactus.
This "cactus" was afraid of water, and whenever the "mushroom" watered herself, he would scream "Help!" "I can't go on living!" "The cactus is going to drown!"
The conflict between the "mushroom" and the "cactus" was irreconcilable, and the sound of them screaming "Help!" echoed incessantly twenty-four hours a day!
There was another one who didn't speak and never screamed, but was even scarier than those two.
He would silently draw a door on the wall and then try to walk out through the "door"!
Every time he would bump into it until his face was bruised and swollen, yet he seemed to feel no pain, slamming his head against the wall "bang, bang" over and over again!
Having stayed in such an environment for a full three days, Bai Xue didn't even know how she had managed to survive it.
At first, she begged the medical staff outside, swearing and vowing that she wasn't sick.
Then the "mushroom" and the "cactus" learned to do the same, swearing and vowing: "I'm not sick, I'm a mushroom, you should send me back to the big Forest."
The other one chimed in, nodding: "I'm a cactus, I don't want to be locked up with mushrooms and people, I want to go back to the desert."
And so, no one paid any attention to them anymore.
Just as Bai Xue felt she was about to collapse, the big iron door outside finally opened, and it was her turn for the examination.
The test results showed that she had mania and depression.
Bai Xue was in despair, thinking she would continue to be locked up with those... non-plants. She even considered jumping out of the doctor's office!
She would rather die than be with them again. If this continued, it wouldn't be long before she became a real mental patient without even needing an examination!
Fortunately, heaven never blocks all paths. After the doctor took a phone call, he informed her that she could be discharged. In her wild joy, Bai Xue didn't forget to ask who had sent her in.
According to the rules, they weren't allowed to tell the "patient," so Bai Xue took the gold bracelet off her wrist and stuffed it into the doctor's pocket.
And so, she saw Wang Yingzhi's name in the sign-in book.
……
The day after Bai Xue was discharged, she went to Wang Yingzhi's Villa to cause a scene. Wang Yingzhi and Sheng Jiang hid in their room, trembling, not daring to go out and confront Bai Xue at all.
She was as cowardly now as she had been arrogant before.
After causing a scene without getting a response, Bai Xue, stifled and furious, left a harsh threat: "Wang Yingzhi, you are just wicked. Don't think that just because you're hiding, I can't do anything to you. We'll see!"
In the middle of that night, a raging fire broke out at Wang Yingzhi's residence. Fortunately, the Security Guard put out the fire in time; no one was hurt, but the house was no longer habitable.
Having tasted the sweetness of the last time on television, Wang Yingzhi didn't even need Shi Youxuan's guidance this time. She ran straight to the law firm to sue Bai Xue for arson and murder, and also demanded several times the compensation for her property losses.
However, Bai Xue had an alibi, and there was no evidence to prove that Bai Xue had set the fire. Although the cause of the fire was indeed suspicious, it really had nothing to do with Bai Xue at all.
It not only had nothing to do with Bai Xue, but it also had nothing to do with Sheng Yukai!
Bai Xue had wanted to take revenge on Wang Yingzhi, but she hadn't yet decided on a method when her house caught fire.
Since she had the upper hand, she naturally wouldn't let it go. Bai Xue immediately went to court to file a countersuit, accusing Wang Yingzhi of framing her, and there was a high probability she would win!
It was naturally satisfying to sue others, but it wasn't satisfying to be countersued.
Wang Yingzhi went to find Shi Youxuan to complain, but she didn't see her; the butler blocked her outside the door, and she couldn't even get into the main gate.
Ever since her daughter-in-law gave her advice last time and she tasted the sweetness of it, she would come to find Shi Youxuan whether she had something to say or not, but she saw her less often than she didn't.
Usually, not seeing her was fine, but this time she was extremely anxious and insisted on seeing Shi Youxuan, even righteously placing herself on the moral high ground.
She said that she was the mother-in-law, and if a daughter-in-law didn't care when her parents-in-law were in trouble, wasn't she afraid of being criticized by others?
Coming to ask for help while making threats—Wang Yingzhi's thick-skinned nature once again exceeded Shi Youxuan's imagination.
She and Sheng Hanyu were standing by the Study window, hearing the conversation downstairs clearly.
Sheng Hanyu closed the window and said to her: "I told you not to get involved, but you insisted. Once this person gets involved, she sticks to you; you won't be able to get her off without peeling off a layer of skin."
Sheng Hanyu had suffered deeply from this, and now it was Shi Youxuan's turn.
She hadn't expected Wang Yingzhi to be even more difficult to deal with than Shi Yuke and Jiang Yadan, but she couldn't voice her regret. Anyway, the butler was downstairs blocking her from coming up, so the two of them began to analyze what exactly had happened with the Villa fire.
