Chapter 1773: Zirui Returns to the Sheng Family, Father and Son Reconcile

~8 min read 1,493 words

She seemed to be waiting for someone.

"Stop the car quickly, your mother is up ahead."

Sheng Jiang jumped out before the car had even come to a complete stop, nearly falling over.

He hurried over, grabbed his wife's arm, and said excitedly, "A-Hao, why did you run all the way here? You nearly scared us to death..."

When Wang Yinghao saw her husband, she didn't show any excitement. Instead, she pushed him away with a look of complete wariness and said sharply, "Who are you, old man? Stay away from me, you bad person."

"Be good, I am your husband, not a bad person..." Sheng Jiang coaxed his wife as if he were soothing a child.

Wang Yinghao, however, lifted her head proudly: "You're lying. I'm still young and haven't even married yet, so where would I have a husband? You've mistaken me for someone else."

"You leave quickly. If my older sister sees you when she comes over later, she will definitely beat you. My sister is very fierce."

These words made Sheng Jiang's hair stand on end, and even Shi Youxuan felt a chill run down her back!

Wang Yinghao only had one sister, and that was Wang Yingzhi.

Wang Yingzhi had died long ago, and for all these years, her mother-in-law had always deliberately avoided talking about her. It was very abnormal for her to suddenly mention her sister now.

But Sheng Jiang seemed to hear it often and didn't feel surprised at all. He coaxed her, "A-Hao, I really am your husband. Won't you come back with me? Your sister is at my house; we can see her once we go back..."

"Really? Don't lie to me."

"I will never lie to you in my life."

Wang Yinghao nodded: "Alright, you don't look like a bad person, I'll listen to you." After saying this, she followed him into the car.

Her illness came in waves; when it flared up, she wouldn't recognize anyone. This time, it seemed particularly severe, as she didn't recognize anyone at all.

When Wang Yinghao saw there were others in the car, she didn't recognize them as her son and daughter-in-law. She greeted them with a polite smile: "Hello, I'm sorry for the trouble."

Sheng Hanyu:...

Shi Youxuan: "Hello, it's no trouble at all. We were just heading this way."

They were family members who had lived under the same roof for decades, yet now they had to pretend to be strangers. Sheng Hanyu felt an indescribable awkwardness in his heart.

Shi Youxuan felt awkward too, but her mother-in-law was a patient now. The doctor had instructed them not to let the patient get agitated and to go along with her in everything.

Upon returning home, the children had all come back as well, and everyone gathered around Grandma to fuss over her.

"Grandma, where did you run off to?"

"You scared us to death."

"Don't go out alone next time. If you were to trip or get hurt, Dad, Mom, and Grandpa would all be very sad. They were so worried about you..."

Wang Yinghao didn't see her sister, but instead found herself surrounded by a group of young men and women... She was terrified, and her face turned pale.

"Who are you all? Why do you call me Grandma? I am younger than you."

Everyone:...

Shi Youxuan told the children to stay aside so they wouldn't frighten Grandma; right now, only Grandpa could soothe her.

Everyone dispersed, but Zirui's hand was grabbed. Wang Yinghao said timidly, "Hanyu, don't go. Can you stay with me? I'm scared."

Zirui:...

His grandmother had mistaken him for his father.

He was just about to explain, but he received a look from his mother telling him to stop, so he didn't explain and let his grandmother continue the misunderstanding.

Sheng Jiang poured a cup of warm water and handed it to his wife, saying with concern, "You've been gone for so long, you must be very tired. Drink some water."

Wang Yinghao took the cup, gulped it all down, and then rubbed her stomach, whispering, "Hungry..." She had gone out in the morning and wasn't found until it was nearly dark. Having run around outside all day, it would be strange if she weren't hungry.

Sheng Jiang said hurriedly, "Fang Jie is cooking noodles in the kitchen, they'll be ready in a moment, don't worry."

Just as he was speaking, Fang Jie brought over a bowl of soft, well-cooked egg noodles.

After thanking her, Wang Yinghao took the bowl and immediately began to wolf down the food. She was starving; she swallowed the noodles without even chewing.

After she was full, she still held onto Zirui and wouldn't let go, calling him "Hanyu," while she didn't recognize her actual son.

Once she had eaten and drunk her fill, it was time to wash up and rest.

After Grandma washed up, she insisted that "Hanyu" sit by her side to keep her company before she would sleep. Letting him stay was fine; it was better than her looking for her sister.

Zirui sat at the head of Grandma's bed and told her a bedtime story. Grandma soon fell asleep. He walked out of the bedroom on tiptoe and saw the doctor leaving.

For this kind of illness, the doctor could judge the condition just by hearing the symptoms without needing to see the patient.

The doctor shook his head repeatedly and sighed: "There is no special method, nor is there a miracle drug. This illness can only be managed. Taking medicine on time can delay the onset of symptoms as much as possible. It is best to have family by her side; more care and companionship will be beneficial to her condition."

Shi Youxuan said to her husband, "Go talk to Zirui and ask him to come home often to visit and keep Grandma company."

Sheng Hanyu said sullenly, "You go say it."

"I'm not going. I wasn't the one who wanted to sever ties back then. The one who tied the knot must be the one to untie it. This is a matter only you are suited to talk about; no one else can replace you."

If it were any other matter, Sheng Hanyu would never have softened his stance.

But this concerned his mother's health, and he could see that his wife would absolutely not help him. So, he was the only one who could say it. All the children in the house were on their mother's side; not a single one would help him.

What happened to being a loving family?

At this critical moment, he felt a sense of being abandoned by everyone.

For someone who had been proud his whole life, it was not an easy thing to suddenly have to lower his guard.

Zirui wanted to leave after coaxing Grandma to sleep, but everyone wouldn't let him go. His mother said his father had something to tell him, but his father sat upright on the sofa, looking as serious as if he were discussing national affairs, yet he didn't utter a single word.

They couldn't just stay in this stalemate, so the siblings gathered around Zirui, asking him to tell them interesting stories about what happened in Country A.

Tell them he would.

Zirui focused on the part where he opened a stall in Country A and encountered people who deliberately caused trouble and tried to extort him.

Sheng Hanyu always felt his son was making veiled remarks about him.

This brat, has his skills grown after a year away?

He hadn't noticed any other skills, but when it came to going against his old man, he was twice as capable as anyone else.

He even knew how to make veiled remarks; Zirui used to be straightforward and never beat around the bush.

Although doing that is very satisfying, it is too rigid, and rigidity leads to breaking easily.

This ability to hide needles in cotton that he has now was definitely not taught by him; it was taught by someone else.

Sheng Hanyu felt like he was sitting on pins and needles; he wanted to reprimand Zirui, he really wanted to, but he could not speak!

To speak would be equivalent to admitting that he was the one who instigated the people back then, so he could only play dumb, but listening to it was truly unbearable, and he still couldn't help but speak up.

"Telling the same story three times in a row, have you developed Senile dementia?"

Zirui retorted: "I am telling it to everyone else, I didn't ask you to listen."

Sheng Hanyu:...

"Hmph!"

He stood up, intending to leave.

Zirui took the initiative to speak to him: "I know I have been here too long, I will leave right away."

After he finished speaking, he stood up and put on a show of preparing to leave.
