Chapter 1828: Yulong
Yulong quickly adjusted his emotions, went back out, and returned to the banquet.
Although he didn't show it as obviously anymore, he still had no appetite; watching Meiyin and Chen Lu serve food to each other was a real eyesore to him.
The banquet finally ended, and Meiyin and Chen Lu were going back to school.
Yulong couldn't control himself and followed them; the three of them weren't going the same way, but he insisted that they were, and as a result, he was thoroughly crushed again on the way.
The two of them were chatting and laughing, and no one paid any attention when he tried to interject; he felt like a third wheel the whole time and was filled with anger.

The next day.
Yulong's eyes were bloodshot and his face was haggard as he came to find Meiyin: "I need to talk to you."
"What is it?"
"Chen Lu isn't right for you."
"How do you know he isn't right for me? Yesterday you interrogated him like you were checking a household register, and you even teased him. He didn't say a word; his temper is good enough as it is. Zhang Yulong, don't go too far."
"You don't like me, yet you won't let anyone else like me? Do you want me to live like a resentful woman, pestering you and refusing to let go before you're satisfied? I'm sorry, I can't do that."
"No, that's not what I meant."
"Then what did you mean?"
Meiyin was aggressive: "Didn't you say your feelings for me were those of a brother for a sister? Why do I feel like you're jealous? A brother doesn't act like this toward his sister..."
Yulong was forced back step by step into a corner, with nowhere left to retreat, and finally fled in a panic.
Meiyin watched Yulong's back and covered her mouth to laugh.
Mother's idea was truly great; it was simply brilliant!
The idea of finding someone to pretend to be a boyfriend to make Yulong jealous was Nianyin's.
This person specialized in setting up her son and didn't hold back at all; Shi Yuke saw Meiyin looking dejected every day and losing weight rapidly, and she was anxious in her heart.
She herself had no ideas, so she called Nianyin to ask what to do.
Nianyin came over quickly, and the two women discussed it in the room for an entire afternoon, coming up with this plan to have Meiyin find someone to pretend to be her boyfriend to test Yulong's reaction.
If he had no reaction, then it was truly a brother-sister relationship.
If that were the case, then so be it; a long pain is worse than a short one, she might as well give up!
If Yulong was jealous, then it meant he didn't understand himself at all and hadn't faced his heart.
Through this incident, it would be just right to let him see clearly; either way, there was nothing to lose.
Thus, on the day of Shi Yuke's birthday, Meiyin brought her "boyfriend" back.
What was originally said out of spite became a good idea to test Yulong's heart, and the result made everyone very happy—it was exactly what they wanted.
Nianyin was very happy when she received Meiyin's call, but she still urged her: "Don't push him too hard; keep leaving him out in the cold. I guarantee that in less than three days, he will come to find you."
One day passed, and he didn't come.
Two days passed, and Zhang Yulong was like a missing person; there was still no movement at all.
Nianyin told Meiyin to stay calm; at this point, it was a battle of who lost their nerve first—whoever couldn't stay calm would lose.
It was easy to say, but how could it be that easy to do?
Meiyin was on pins and needles in the dormitory, feeling like every day was a year.
The third day.
Sure enough, just as Mother said, Yulong came to find her.
He hadn't been seen for three days, but his appearance gave her a shock.
Stubble on his face, dark circles under his eyes, and his eyes were listless!
"How did you become like this? Are you sick? I'll go with you to the hospital to check."
"No need to go to the hospital, I'm not sick, I just haven't rested well these past few days."
"Why haven't you rested well?"
"Because of you."
Meiyin was happy inside, but on the surface, she still acted confused: "I'm fine, nothing's wrong. Don't talk nonsense; why would you not sleep well because of me for no reason?"
Yulong said irritably: "It's all because of that boyfriend of yours. You having a boyfriend has completely stirred up my heart..."
"What are you stirred up about? You're my brother. You should be happy that I have a boyfriend and should be wishing me well. What are you stirred up for? What is there to be stirred up about?"
"Because I like you!"
Meiyin said deliberately: "I know, that kind of liking a brother has for a sister, right? But a brother should cherish his sister; you wouldn't want your sister to grow old alone, would you?"
Yulong: "I want to accompany you until we grow old together."
"How to accompany? Neither of us should date or get married? Or are you saying you can date normally, marry and have children, but I'm just not allowed to date?"
Yulong was forced into a corner again, but this time he didn't run.
He grabbed Meiyin and said to her, word for word: "I will marry you, you will marry me, and we will grow old together."
"I've discovered that my feelings for you don't seem to be the kind a brother has for a sister. I want to keep you all to myself; I don't want you to look at any other man for even a second..."
He couldn't finish the rest of his words because his lips were blocked.
——————————————————————————————
With Meiyin and Yulong's relationship confirmed, Nianyin and Shi Yuke wished the whole world knew.
They acted separately, going door-to-door to notify relatives and friends, inviting them to attend their children's engagement banquet.
The two children were a bit embarrassed; the transition from siblings to lovers made them feel a bit uncomfortable.
But receiving everyone's blessings was still very comfortable; everyone was sincere in their blessings, and even the people in the village who liked to gossip didn't say anything.
It was as if their dating was a very normal thing in everyone's eyes.
There was no blood relationship to begin with, and the villagers all knew this, so what was there to gossip about? They were a perfect couple who were childhood sweethearts.
After Meiyin and Yulong got engaged, Jian Yining could not sit still.
For several days, he was restless and a bit irritable.
Having been married for many years, even if he did not say what was on his mind, Wan'er could tell.
She comforted her husband: "Our three children are still young. Are you feeling restless because you saw other people's children getting engaged? Don't be like this; now is not the time to be anxious."
Jian Yining said: "I am not anxious because other people's children are getting engaged, but because our three girls haven't even dated a boyfriend. Do you think it's possible they don't like boys?"
Reminded by her husband, Wan'er also became worried.
"That can't be, right? I haven't noticed anything unusual..."
She stopped halfway through her sentence, unable to continue.
The children have grown up and have their own ideas; they wouldn't tell their parents every little detail, especially about things like this.
The couple are not old-fashioned people, but they still hope their children's sexual orientation conforms to mainstream aesthetics.
They would not discriminate against their own children, but they cannot guarantee how others would look at them.
To say they don't care at all—they don't have that kind of strong psychological fortitude yet.
Wan'er asked her husband: "If the three of them don't like boys and like girls instead, what should we do?"
As soon as she finished asking, tears started falling.
