Chapter 201: Plane Crash

~9 min read 1,643 words

But soon, someone from the airport also called him to deliver this tragic news.

The plane Shi Youxuan was on suddenly malfunctioned over the Pacific Ocean; the plane fell into the sea, and everyone on board perished!

Sheng Hanyu fainted, but fortunately, he was discovered in time by the housekeeper and sent to the hospital.

He only woke up a week later.

"Hanyu, Hanyu, are you awake? That's great, you've finally woken up." Jian Yixin was crying and laughing at the same time; her eyes were red and swollen like peaches, yet she was smiling very happily.

"Where is Xuanxuan? Where is she?"

The first thing Sheng Hanyu asked upon waking was where Shi Youxuan was. Jian Yixin felt uncomfortable, but she told the truth: "Hanyu, don't be too sad; the dead cannot come back to life..."

"No!"

He suddenly shouted: "Xuanxuan is not dead, don't talk nonsense. Yixin, I know I let you down and failed you; you can curse me, but please don't curse my Xuanxuan."

His defense of Shi Youxuan made Jian Yixin feel as if her heart were being cut by a knife.

"Hanyu, wake up, will you? I'm not lying, and I didn't curse her. She is indeed dead. The plane fell into the sea from an altitude of 20,000 meters; there is simply no possibility of survival!"

The salvage operation is still ongoing, and quite a bit of plane wreckage and remains have been recovered, but Shi Youxuan's remains have not been found.

Jian Yining has been out at sea following the salvage team for a week already. Before leaving, he coldly announced that he wanted to sever ties with her as siblings and would never acknowledge Jian Yixin as his sister again.

Jian Yining blamed Shi Youxuan's death entirely on her. Her younger brother believed that if she hadn't gone to find Shi Youxuan, Shi Youxuan wouldn't have left, and certainly wouldn't have boarded that doomed flight!

She wasn't afraid of her brother's blame, but she was afraid that Sheng Hanyu thought the same.

Jian Yixin had indeed thought about harming Shi Youxuan to clear the obstacles between herself and Sheng Hanyu, but the person was gone before she could even take action.

And now that the person was gone, she realized that Shi Youxuan's death was not a good thing.

Because her brother was furious with her and her parents scolded him a few times, he sent back a statement from overseas three days after leaving—severing all ties with the Jian Family, declaring that everything regarding the Jian Family had nothing to do with him from then on, and renouncing his inheritance rights.

The parents of the Jian Family only wanted the four of them to be well; they didn't want their daughter to return only to lose their son. But this matter caused such a huge uproar that there was no room for reconciliation, and it immediately made the old couple sick.

Although they didn't directly blame their daughter, they would sigh heavily whenever they saw her.

With Sheng Hanyu in a coma, her parents both sick, and her brother turning against her, Jian Yixin went from being the center of attention to being the target of everyone's scorn in an instant!

And all of this was because Shi Youxuan was dead.

But this was only the beginning.

When Sheng Hanyu woke up, it was as if he had become a completely different person.

He refused to acknowledge the news of Shi Youxuan's death, and he would turn against anyone who told him that Shi Youxuan was dead.

Later, he stopped eating and drinking, locking himself in his room and refusing to see anyone.

Fearing that something would happen to him, Jian Yixin had people force their way in to feed him.

Sheng Hanyu's hunger strike failed, and he finally walked out of the house, but before people could even be happy, he went to the police station to turn himself in!

He confessed that Jiang Yadan's death was not a suicide, but that he had killed her.

Furthermore, Shi Yuke's broken limbs were caused by him stepping on them, including sprinkling salt on the wounds on her face, and his purpose in doing so was to vent his anger for his wife.

The injuries on Shi Yuke were not serious, but they caused her mental damage. With these two matters combined, Sheng Hanyu was very likely to be sentenced to death.

This was the result he wanted.

Jian Yixin was going crazy with anxiety; she spent every day trying to find a way to save Sheng Hanyu.

She went to beg Shi Yucheng, but was driven away before she could even enter the door.

It was fortunate she ran fast; if she had run any slower, she feared she would have been beaten.

Shi Yucheng did not hit women, but for someone pleading for the person who caused the death of his wife and two daughters, beating her would have been a light punishment.

He could not possibly intercede for Sheng Hanyu; if he wanted to die, then let him die!

After hitting a wall with Shi Yucheng, Jian Yixin looked everywhere for a way to save Sheng Hanyu, only to find that she had no connections and no one to consult.

Her parents were still sick, and her brother wouldn't pay her any mind at all.

In the end, she had no choice but to go find Sheng Zerong. In the past, Sheng Zerong was the little tail behind her and Sheng Hanyu, and at the time, Jian Yixin just treated him like her own younger brother.

Now he had also grown into a grown man, capable of standing on his own.

Sheng Zerong offered her advice, and the two of them found Zhang, asking Zhang to serve as Sheng Hanyu's defense lawyer.

Zhang agreed, but Sheng Hanyu was not cooperative at all. When the defendant is determined to die, even the best lawyer is useless. He confessed to all the charges, and even admitted to crimes that weren't his.

But his plan was destined to fail; at the critical moment, Shi Yucheng still played a role.

He brought the family's servants to court to testify: the servants had seen with their own eyes that Jiang Yadan had tried to harm him and accidentally killed herself, and that he had instructed his bodyguards to call the police immediately. The murder charge against Sheng Hanyu was not established.

Although it wasn't murder, he hadn't sent Jiang Yadan to the hospital immediately, which counted as a charge of indirect homicide.

Added to the assault charge, the two crimes were punished together, and Sheng Hanyu was sentenced to five years in prison.

Sheng Hanyu did not accept this and filed an appeal.

The reason for the appeal was unprecedented—the sentence was too light, and the criminal himself strongly demanded the death penalty!

The higher court deemed the original verdict legal and reasonable, rejecting the appeal and upholding the original sentence.

Five years later.

The prison gate opened, and Sheng Hanyu walked out holding a bag.

He was still wearing the same clothes he had on when he went in five years ago: a white shirt and black trousers.

That is the one good thing about international luxury brands; even though five years had passed, the fabric still looked brand new, and the style was not outdated.

It was just a bit loose, looking a little too big on him and not quite fitting.

The sunlight outside was a bit blinding; he reached out and placed his hand on his forehead to block the harsh light, also covering the prominent scar on his forehead.

This scar was left from a fight in prison. Originally, Sheng Hanyu hadn't intended to come out alive, fighting ruthlessly in hopes of receiving even more violent retaliation, but instead, he ended up gaining a bunch of followers in a short time and became the boss!

During these five years, Sheng Hanyu had no contact with the outside world. Jian Yixin and Sheng Zerong came to see him on every visitation day, but he never saw them.

He didn't want to see people from his past; seeing them inevitably made him think of past events, and of that woman who made his heart ache just to think of her.

But even if he didn't see them, it couldn't stop him from thinking of Shi Youxuan.

For every night over the past five years, he almost always dreamed of Shi Youxuan, dreamed of her smiling at him and making faces at him.

He dreamed of her seriously cooking exceptionally terrible meals in the kitchen, then forcing him to eat every single bit of them...

Only after losing something does one know how to cherish it; no one could have a deeper realization of this saying than Sheng Hanyu.

He spent five years missing Jian Yixin, and another five years missing Shi Youxuan!

Ten whole years; how many ten-year periods can one squander in a lifetime?

But Sheng Hanyu used ten years to figure out what love is.

He and Jian Yixin were childhood sweethearts who grew up together; what he felt for her was not love, but habit.

He was used to having Jian Yixin by his side, used to the elders teasing the two of them since they were small, so as time went on, he naturally felt that Jian Yixin should be his wife.

And then came the great fire.

He did not rescue Jian Yixin from the fire, and his guilt was greater than anything else, so for those five years, he could not forget Jian Yixin—not because of love, but simply because of habit and guilt.

Then Shi Youxuan appeared, his wife, his lover, the woman he carved into his heart and held at the very tip of it!
