Chapter 215: Moving into the Zhu Family

~8 min read 1,551 words

A very familiar feeling arose, and before she could think it through, Shi Ran made a new request: "Daddy, I want the auntie to come home and keep me company, is that okay?"

Zhu Yiwen agreed readily: "Of course, that's fine."

Without seeking Sheng Hanyu's opinion, he asked the director: "How long has she been with you? Is she reliable?"

Although he had promised the child, he had to be clear about the background of the person who would be looking after Xiaozhu personally.

Kitchen matters were always handled by the manager, and the director did not know the details, but she could not say so to his face.

However, she had just saved Shi Ran, so her character should be trustworthy.

Thus, the director said to Zhu Yiwen: "Alisha is very honest and diligent in her work, but she has one shortcoming: she cannot speak. Shall I go organize Alisha's files and send them over to you?"

"No need, I will take her with me now."

When Zhu Yiwen heard the director say that Alisha could not speak, he was satisfied.

It is good that she cannot speak; since she is to look after his daughter personally, she is destined to see things she should not know, and if she cannot speak, she cannot leak them.

Sheng Hanyu held Shi Ran as they sat in the nanny van and moved into the Zhu Family Mansion.

Only after entering did Sheng Hanyu realize how large this mansion was.

From the day he was born, the Sheng Family had been the wealthiest in Jiangzhou, and Sheng Hanyu had grown up in the lap of luxury; he could not say he had never seen the world, but the Zhu Family Mansion still left him in awe!

On the outside, it looked plain and unremarkable, just a bit larger, but walking through the main gate, it could only be described as magnificent and resplendent.

The mansion had six floors, and a massive chandelier hung down from the top floor, with countless decorative pendants emitting a brilliant radiance!

Wealthy families usually use crystal chandeliers to highlight their status, and the quality varies depending on the origin.

For example, the crystal chandelier in the Sheng Family Mansion was custom-ordered by the old master from Brazil back in the day, and the pendants on it contained a small amount of golden rutilated quartz and green rutilated quartz, but most were still white rutilated quartz.

They did not use purple because purple rutilated quartz is simply too precious; even if used in jewelry, it would not be considered beneath one's status. Even though the Sheng Family was the wealthiest in Jiangzhou, they were not extravagant enough to decorate a chandelier with purple rutilated quartz!

But most of the chandelier in the Zhu Family Mansion was made of purple rutilated quartz, and of the finest kind at that.

There were white ones too, but they were not crystal—they were diamonds embedded in them!

A single lamp was already so extravagant, and the rest were no less so: elevator frames, stair railings, door handles... everything with metal was made of gold.

The metal used to decorate the facade of the Sheng Family Mansion was also gold, but in conspicuous places, it was just gold-plated, a thin layer.

Yet the Zhu Family even used gold plating for the elevator door frames. With this kind of financial power, comparing the former Sheng Family to the Zhu Family... well, there was simply no comparison.

Sheng Hanyu now knew that what Zhu Yiwen did in Jiangzhou was not meant to oppose him!

If he really wanted to oppose him, with his current strength, he would be no match at all.

Sheng Hanyu was very clever; just from the decorations of the Zhu Family, he could basically guess Zhu Yiwen's strength, and all of this was merely the tip of the iceberg.

Zhu Yiwen called the butler over and announced that Alisha would follow the young miss from now on, specifically to play with her, and she did not need to do any other work.

The butler assigned Sheng Hanyu a room on the third floor, right next to Shi Ran.

His range of activity was limited to the third floor and below; he could not take a single step upward, otherwise, he would receive a very severe punishment—flogging—and then be kicked out of the Zhu Family.

And above were the rooms and activity areas of Shi Youxuan and Zhu Yiwen.

The Zhu Family treated their servants well, with the best salaries in the country, but at the same time, there were many rules. The butler delivered a thick book of "Family Rules" for him to read and memorize, preferably by heart.

Sheng Hanyu opened it, read it twice inattentively, and basically memorized it all.

Having infiltrated the Zhu Family and being able to see Shi Youxuan and Shi Ran every day from now on made him overjoyed.

But happy as he was, whenever he thought of the person he longed for being so close, yet he could only watch helplessly as she was with another man... his heart felt as if it were being fiercely kneaded and pained.

"Knock, knock, knock."

A milky voice said: "Alisha, may I come in?"

Sheng Hanyu hurriedly opened the door. Shi Ran had already bathed and changed into clean clothes, standing before him with her hands behind her back, tilting her head and smiling.

Seeing the child, all of Sheng Hanyu's worries vanished.

He made a gesture of invitation, and Shi Ran walked in with a swagger like a little adult.

She looked around as if inspecting the place, saying as she looked: "I've come to see how your room is, to see if the butler has treated you poorly. Mommy says one must know how to be grateful; you saved me, so I must treat you a little better..."

"Eh?"

The little one frowned, dissatisfied: "Why is there not even a doll on your bed? And the colors of the furniture and bedsheets are too dull, they don't look good at all. I'll go ask the butler to change them."

She was about to go out after saying this, but Sheng Hanyu was caught between laughter and tears and blocked the child at the door.

He gestured, saying: "These are all very good, I like them very much, no need to change."

Just a moment ago, he had felt this child was a bit precocious and lacked childlike innocence, worrying that the child's childhood was not happy.

Now he saw that it was entirely an overthought; Shi Ran's "precociousness" was only on the surface, and inside she was still an innocent and lively little girl.

The little girl wanted to decorate Sheng Hanyu's room according to her own standards; if his room were really turned pink and filled with dolls everywhere... the scene would be too beautiful to imagine.

"You really like it like this?" The little girl blinked her large eyes, her pupils dark and bright, as brilliant as gemstones.

These eyes looked exactly like his.

Sheng Hanyu nodded vigorously.

Thus, the little girl believed him and did not make a fuss about having the butler redecorate his room, but she began to plan with great interest: "Alisha, I just heard Daddy and Mommy say that you will follow me from now on, and wherever I go, you will go... shall we go out and play now?"

Mentioning play, the little one's eyes lit up.

Originally, the adults were still worried that she had been frightened, but it seemed that was an overthought.

Sheng Hanyu reminded her by making a gesture of eating.

The little one immediately became like a deflated balloon—she slumped down at once.

She jumped onto the bed, rested her chin in her hands, and muttered to herself: "Yeah, it's almost time to eat, and after eating, I have to take a nap and am not allowed to go out..."

The little girl's eyes lit up again, and she suggested: "How about we sneak out to play during nap time?"

Although it was a suggestion, Shi Ran did not hold much hope that it would be realized.

There were many people serving her, and she had made such requests to everyone, but no one had ever dared to agree.

She was not sure if Alisha would agree either, but Shi Ran felt an inexplicable closeness to Alisha, and even if she didn't agree, she wouldn't be angry.

However... Alisha nodded!

Good heavens, she actually agreed.

"Alisha, you are the best, I simply love you to death." Shi Ran pounced on him like a little bird, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him once on each cheek.

After lunch.

The mansion was quiet, with no sound at all.

The master and the servants were all resting, when a small figure came out of a room, and with a soft knock, pushed open the door to Sheng Hanyu's room.

"Alisha, let's go out and play."

Sheng Hanyu nodded, and the big one and the small one walked hand in hand into the elevator and went downstairs.

When the elevator reached the first floor, Shi Ran did not head for the main entrance, but instead pulled Sheng Hanyu's hand and walked toward the kitchen.
