Chapter 62: Eating Someone's Food Makes You Soft-Mouthed

~9 min read 1,625 words

"What?"

Shi Youxuan stomped downstairs and said to him, "You want to live here? Did I hear that right?"

"You heard right. Which room is mine?" Sheng Hanyu looked as if it were a matter of course.

"What do you mean which room is yours? You can't live here, I don't agree."

Shi Youxuan was about to explode with anger. This man was too unreasonable; this wasn't his territory, so why did he have such an entitled tone?

Sheng Hanyu glanced at her, his gaze piercing, as if he wanted to see straight into her heart: "You seem very afraid of me."

"Don't joke, why would I be afraid of you? I'm not..." She realized that if she continued along this topic, it would seem easy for him to stay as a matter of course.

She immediately changed the subject: "... Of course I'm not afraid of you, but what is wrong with you? First you snatched my Apartment, and only a few days after I sold it to you, it was burned down by someone."

"And now you've taken a fancy to this place? Don't tell me this place has something to do with your ex-fiancée too."

She knew full well in her heart that every little thing here was inseparable from Jian Yixin, but by saying it first, it made it difficult for Sheng Hanyu to bring it up.

Shi Youxuan continued her rapid-fire mockery: "With your vast family business, don't tell me you don't even have a place to stay? Or is it that you just like snatching other people's things?"

"My Apartment is already yours, and now you've found your way here... Weren't you waiting for Jian Yixin at the Apartment? Why aren't you waiting anymore? Have you had a change of heart..."

"Men and women should not touch when handing something over; it's easy for others to misunderstand if a lone man and woman live together. If you aren't afraid, I am!"

Shi Youxuan used the most biting words to provoke Sheng Hanyu, wanting to drive him away.

But she did not succeed.

Sheng Hanyu pointed to the window across the way: "It's been too noisy at my place these past few days, so I'm here to hide for a bit. If you feel it's inconvenient, you can go stay at my Villa."

"Fine."

Shi Youxuan said indignantly: "When I get over there, I'll tell them you're here. Hmph, why should I be the one to block trouble for you..."

"I'll concede two percentage points of profit," Sheng Hanyu said.

And so, the figure that had already reached the door in indignation stopped and turned around: "Five points."

Two points would be enough to buy an entire high-end hotel, and Sheng Hanyu was only staying here temporarily; in fact, this deal was quite a bargain.

Shi Youxuan had the intention of taking advantage of his predicament, but Sheng Hanyu agreed: "Fine."

Thus, Shi Youxuan returned, but her attitude had done a 180-degree turn.

She was all smiles: "You stay in the room on the left upstairs; that's the best room here. I'll help you take your luggage up."

The so-called luggage was actually just two pieces of clothing.

Shi Youxuan sent the luggage up, but when she came down, she was carrying a larger suitcase and said to Sheng Hanyu: "I'll send the agreement for the five points by fax later. Don't forget to sign it and fax it back to me."

"Where are you going?" He closed his laptop and set it aside, his brows slightly furrowed.

Sheng Hanyu coming here wasn't because he really had nowhere to go, but because there were many suspicious things about Yingzi that he needed to figure out.

If he came and she left, wouldn't the five points have been conceded in vain?

Shi Youxuan took advantage of the situation and acted coy: "I'm going to stay at a hotel. You're paying so much money for rent, it would be too unkind of me to keep hanging around here. I'll clear the place for you; the whole Villa... no, a hundred miles in every direction is yours."

"No, you cannot leave," Sheng Hanyu objected.

"Heh..."

Shi Youxuan smiled, but because she was wearing a mask, it looked somewhat stiff.

She ignored him and continued walking outside. Not letting her leave? Why?

Her current identity was Yingzi, just his business partner.

She was not Sheng Hanyu's wife, Shi Youxuan. She could go wherever she wanted; this was her freedom!

Sheng Hanyu said unhurriedly behind her: "A friendly reminder, Yixin's ID card has been cancelled, so her ID is currently invalid. You won't be able to stay at a hotel."

What he said was true; this matter had been handled the day before yesterday.

It was done to force Yingzi's real identity out.

Sheng Hanyu was not as gentlemanly as Jian Yining, nor did he have the self-awareness to fully respect the other party's human rights.

Yingzi using Jian Yixin's identity meant that her own original identity could not be seen in public, so who was she? Was it true or false that she said she knew Jian Yixin?

Sheng Hanyu had to investigate all of this clearly. He could not allow his partner's identity to be a muddled mess, not even knowing who she was.

Shi Youxuan turned back indignantly: "Sheng Hanyu, you've gone too far. What right do you have to do this?"

"Yixin is my fiancée; I do not allow others to use her identity."

Shi Youxuan was furious and spoke without thinking: "Shameless! You're already married, yet you're still entangled with your ex-fiancée. If you loved her so much, why did you marry someone else back then!"

She covered her mouth with her hand, realizing her mouth had moved faster than her brain.

"How did you know I was married?"

Sheng Hanyu stood up from the sofa, his face so gloomy it could have dripped ink.

"Jian Yining told me," she said, thinking quickly to use Jian Yining as a shield.

And so, Sheng Hanyu's expression returned to normal: "Stop being a busybody. You must stay; I have things to ask you."

She didn't want to stay, but she couldn't leave now. Shi Youxuan went online to check, and Sheng Hanyu hadn't been bluffing; Jian Yixin's ID card had indeed been cancelled.

Jian Yining had gone abroad three days ago to handle company transfer procedures, and he wasn't in the country; she didn't even have a helper!

She couldn't stay at a hotel without an ID card; she couldn't just sleep on the street.

It wasn't that she hadn't thought about going to stay at the Villa across the way, but this thought was killed by Shi Youxuan the moment it popped up. The housekeeper and bodyguards across the way had been in contact with Shi Youxuan for a long time; if she accidentally revealed any clues, it would be better to just stay here.

Shi Youxuan turned and went upstairs, slamming the door shut to show her dissatisfaction.

Soon, Sheng Hanyu came up and knocked on the door: "Knock, knock, knock."

"Yingzi, what are we having for lunch?"

"There's milk, bread, crackers, and instant noodles in the fridge. Eat whatever you want," Shi Youxuan said crossly.

Was he using her as a servant now? Asking what's for lunch?

He could eat the northwest wind for all she cared.

Sheng Hanyu frowned: "Is this what you usually eat?"

He thought of the refrigerator in the Apartment, which was also filled with things like milk, yogurt, cake, bread, and instant noodles.

Shi Youxuan did not make a sound, sitting on the bed and sulking.

The sound of footsteps at the door gradually faded away, and half an hour later, the phone rang.

It displayed Sheng Hanyu's number, and after she answered, the person on the other end said: "Come downstairs to eat."

"Beep, beep, beep—"

He hung up.

Shi Youxuan did not want to go downstairs, but although she was sulking, her stomach disagreed, rumbling non-stop; she was indeed hungry.

The aroma of food from downstairs kept drifting in through the door cracks; it smelled so good!

Sheng Hanyu could actually cook?

Shi Youxuan persuaded herself: I shouldn't go against my own stomach; it's only right that he cooks, I'll just treat it as paying the rent, and after eating, I'll find a way to drive him away.

She opened the door and went downstairs; the dining table was filled with a spread of good dishes.

Sweet and sour pork ribs, braised fish, fried mushrooms, twice-cooked pork, beef and tomato soup, stir-fried Xiaobai, and braised tiger-skin eggs with chili peppers.

The steaming rice was crystal clear and bright; Shi Youxuan swallowed a mouthful of saliva, feeling quite pathetic.

Having eaten bread, jam, ham sausages, and instant noodles for a week, seeing so much delicious food laid out before her, she immediately felt even hungrier.

"Did you make all of this?"

Those who take from others are soft-handed, and those who eat others' food are soft-mouthed.

Preparing to eat the food he had made, Shi Youxuan's tone unconsciously became much softer.

Sheng Hanyu did not answer; he sat down directly, picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat.

A full set of bowls and chopsticks was laid out opposite him, so Shi Youxuan also sat down and tucked in with gusto!

It was so delicious!

After just one bite, she could taste it; this was the craftsmanship of the chef from across the way, whom she had eaten many meals from back at the Villa, and who had fattened her up back then.

It seemed that Sheng Hanyu living here wasn't without any benefits; at the very least, the problem of meals was solved.
