Chapter 67: Sharing a Quilt
Shi Youxuan closed the computer, covered her head with the quilt, and kept brainwashing herself: "What does it have to do with me? What does it have to do with me? It would be better if he froze to death. Who told him to run over here? It's not like I invited him..."
"Whoosh—"
The quilt was lifted, and she got out of bed to turn on the flashlight.
There was only one bar of battery left on the phone, which would run out quickly, so Shi Youxuan quickly found all her thick clothes and put them on.
Then she hugged the quilt and went to knock on Sheng Hanyu's door: "Knock, knock, knock."
"Hey, open the door, I'm bringing you a quilt."
The door didn't open, but Sheng Hanyu's voice came from downstairs: "I'm here."
Shi Youxuan shone the flashlight—he was curled up on the sofa, and what he was covering himself with was actually a throw pillow!
When Sheng Hanyu came, he only brought two changes of clothes and not a single thick garment. Now that the temperature had suddenly dropped, he was so cold he could only use a throw pillow to keep warm.
Shi Youxuan handed the quilt to him: "You cover yourself with this, the throw pillow isn't warm."
"No need."
He pushed the quilt back, and his hand accidentally touched a soft spot—he pulled it back immediately as if electrocuted!
"Sorry, I didn't mean to."
It would have been better if Sheng Hanyu hadn't apologized; apologizing was tantamount to pointing out exactly where he had touched.
Shi Youxuan's face turned red in a flash, burning as if it were on fire.
Fortunately, the room was dark and her complexion couldn't be seen clearly; otherwise, if he saw her so embarrassed and flustered, with her face pale and unresponsive, he would definitely have discovered the clues!
"If you don't speak, no one will treat you like a Yaba."
Shi Youxuan threw the quilt back at him hatefully, slamming it onto his head, and then turned and left.
"Ah—"
Her arm was suddenly grabbed, and she fell backward without any preparation, collapsing into the man's arms.
"Pervert, let go of me!"
Just as Shi Youxuan was about to struggle, she realized it was easy to get up; he hadn't intended to do anything to her at all—she had overreacted!
This made things very awkward.
Shi Youxuan went upstairs with a "thump, thump, thump," returned to her room, and slammed the door shut. At first, her face was burning and she didn't feel cold, but after a while, her whole body was shivering with cold!
Why is it so cold?
When will the power come back on?
Shi Youxuan couldn't stand the cold, so she hugged her shoulders and curled into a ball by the bed.
This won't do. It's not even midnight yet and it's this cold; if she just sits here and sleeps all night, she'll definitely catch a cold or get a fever.
She pushed open the door and jogged in the hallway, running from one end to the other; once she started moving, she didn't feel as cold.
"Can't you just settle down? Stomping on the stairs early in the morning, running in the middle of the night—are you not going to let people sleep?" Sheng Hanyu protested.
Shi Youxuan didn't show weakness and retorted: "How am I supposed to sleep after giving you the quilt? I was almost frozen to death without falling asleep; if I fell asleep, I'd definitely freeze to death."
"If I freeze to death, can you explain it clearly in this house? Aren't you afraid that the police uncle will accuse you of murder for money..." This was a novel argument; it was the first time Sheng Hanyu had heard someone say he would plot against a woman's money.
"Returning the quilt to you." He walked over holding the quilt, intending to return it to Yingzi.
But he was refused; Yingzi refused to take it: "I don't want it. It's so cold today; if I take the quilt back and you freeze to death, the police uncle will suspect me of murder for money too!"
"Then let's sleep together."
Sheng Hanyu didn't wait for an answer, wrapped Yingzi in the quilt, carried her, and went into her room.
"Put me down, Sheng Hanyu, you jerk, I don't want to sleep with you, what do you mean by this, let me go!" Shi Youxuan panicked.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to you, we're just huddling for warmth, don't overthink it."
Sheng Hanyu placed her on the bed and crawled into the quilt himself. It really was just huddling for warmth, with no other actions.
She had to admit that the two of them huddled together was warmer than being alone!
Moreover, light snoring soon came from beside her; the man next to her had fallen asleep.
At first, she had her back to him, but staying in one position for a long time was tiring, so she slowly turned around.
The rain outside had stopped at some point, the dark clouds had dispersed, and the moon revealed half its face.
The faint moonlight shone in through the window, enough for her to see the man's rugged facial lines and handsome features.
Shi Youxuan admitted that Sheng Hanyu was indeed handsome; this face was no worse than a celebrity's, and it was a pleasure to look at, plus he was wealthy... no wonder people had been coming to the door one after another these past two days!
If it weren't for the fact that he had Yixin in his heart, Shi Youxuan felt that spending a lifetime with him would be fine... wait, what was she thinking?
She patted her own face; her face started burning again, and her breathing became a bit rapid!
No, it seemed the person with rapid breathing wasn't her—Sheng Hanyu's face was also flushed.
She reached out and touched his forehead; he had a fever!
Looking at the clothes on his body, she realized he had rushed into the heavy rain wearing this to drag her back, then she took a hot shower and changed into dry clothes, and he seemed to have boiled ginger water with brown sugar for her...
He must have caught a cold from the rain at that time. Shi Youxuan got out of bed and took the medical kit out of the cabinet.
Gauze, scissors, iodine... there was cold medicine too, but one look at the production date showed it had long since expired.
She couldn't give him the medicine, but she couldn't just watch him have a fever either.
Shi Youxuan went to the kitchen to boil water, slice ginger, and make ginger soup. Just as the piping hot ginger sugar water was ready and she brought it into the room, Sheng Hanyu asked: "Where did you go..."
"Where could I go? I was boiling ginger soup for you. You're awake just in time, get up and drink it while it's hot!"
"You made me look so hard. I looked for you for such a long, long time and couldn't find you. Yixin, where are you... where did you go..."
"Don't leave me, don't run away!"
So she had misunderstood; Sheng Hanyu wasn't talking to her, he was delirious, missing Jian Yixin.
Shi Youxuan reached out and touched his forehead again; the heat was even more intense than before. His forehead was burning hot but there wasn't a drop of sweat; if this continued, it would damage his internal organs.
This won't do. Without medicine, she could only use physical cooling now.
She reached out to undo his shirt buttons, but her waist was tightly clasped by the man: "Don't go, don't leave me..."
"Let go, I am not Jian Yixin, I am Yingzi."
Shi Youxuan struggled hard to break free, but the man's hands shackled her tightly like iron pincers; she struggled strenuously for a good while without breaking free, and even worked up a sweat herself.
The two of them were in a very ambiguous position now, which already made her very embarrassed.
But even more embarrassing things were yet to come; Sheng Hanyu began to kiss her, attempting to press himself tightly against her.
"Slap!"
Shi Youxuan was furious and slapped Sheng Hanyu across the face.
"Does having a fever give you the right to act recklessly?"
"I shouldn't have bothered with you; it would have been better to let you burn to death!" Shi Youxuan glared at him, fuming with temper.
If it were normal times, Sheng Hanyu might have had a different reaction, but he definitely would not cry!
Now, he was crying.
Tears welled up in his eyes, and his voice was filled with unbearable self-reproach: "I'm sorry, it's all my fault."
"I shouldn't have lived on alone; I should have let myself burn to death..."
Heaven knows, the "burn to death" she said was not *that* "burn to death," okay!
But even if she explained now, Sheng Hanyu wouldn't be able to take it in; his whole body was burning hot, and everything he said was gibberish.
The person who was usually insufferably arrogant was now fragile, pitiful, and helpless!
Although she knew he was not clear-headed now, and although she knew all his words were meant for Jian Yixin.
But his appearance still stirred Shi Youxuan's sympathy; she brought a basin of cold water and used a towel to wipe his forehead and palms to bring down the fever.
When the cold water turned warm, she would change it for a new basin; after changing several basins of water in a row, the temperature of his body was finally not so hot.
He also stopped talking gibberish, though his breathing remained heavy.
The ginger sugar water had long since gone cold, so Shi Youxuan replaced it with a cup of warm water and fed it to him bit by bit with a spoon...
When the horizon revealed a fish-belly white, Sheng Hanyu's fever finally broke.
