Chapter 8: The Fool Serves Tea
He grabbed the clothes on the bed and put them on neatly in a few quick motions; Shi Youxuan was hugging her plush toy and about to run out of the bedroom when she was suddenly and accurately scooped into a pair of large arms as she passed by the man, unable to move.
"Thump."
"Thump."
"Thump."
Her heartbeat felt as if it were about to jump out of her chest; Shi Youxuan struggled hard a few times but could not break free. Her heart hammered like a drum, and at this moment, the door was knocked on lightly a few times, and the butler said respectfully from outside: "Eldest Young Master, the Old Master is here."
The Study.
Sheng Runruo sat on the sofa, and Sheng Hanyu stood before him, his attitude as respectful as ever.
The Old Master quietly sized up his eldest grandson; seeing that his complexion was good, a heavy stone in his heart finally dropped. He had two sons—the eldest was mediocre and the second was sullen—and he was not satisfied with either.
Thus, he placed the hopes of the Sheng Family on his three grandsons. Sheng Hanyu was intelligent and outstanding, very much like he was in his youth, and since he was the eldest grandson, he had been groomed as the Heir since childhood.
If not for that great fire five years ago, his eldest grandson should have been the undisputed head of the Sheng Family by now, and he, an old man, would not have to be running about for company matters at such an advanced age.
"Are you satisfied with the Shi Family's daughter?" The Old Master finally stated his purpose.
Shi Yucheng had once been his driver, a loyal and honest man. Later, after leaving the Sheng Family to start his own business, they lost contact until last month, when Shi Yucheng, facing a capital shortage, visited the Old Master at the Sheng Family, and they reconnected.
Shi Yucheng's business in Jiangzhou City was not doing very well, yet he had produced a daughter who was the most famous beauty in Jiangzhou. Sheng Runruo had only mentioned it casually at the time, never expecting the two children to actually end up together.
"Satisfied," Sheng Hanyu said.
When he answered, the corners of his mouth once again lifted into a handsome arc unconsciously, startling the Old Master so much he nearly dropped his teacup on the floor.
It had been five years; he was finally able to smile again.
Sheng Runruo said: "That is good, let her come see me."
"Very well."
Today was the second day of their new marriage; according to custom, they should have gone to the ancestral home to serve tea, but Sheng Hanyu had sworn five years ago that as long as that person was alive, he would never step foot into the main residence again.
Therefore, the Old Master had come in person to see the eldest grandson's wife he had chosen himself!
Shi Youxuan was brought in by the butler and stood before Sheng Runruo, a wide, brilliant smile on her face, still hugging her teddy bear plush toy.
She bowed at a ninety-degree angle: "Hello, Grandpa."
After the greeting, she immediately went to tug on Sheng Runruo's beard with a giggle: "Hey, how strange? Grandpa, why is your hair growing on your mouth?"
"Pfft—" Sheng Hanyu laughed out loud.
The butler was trembling like a leaf, wishing he could plug Shi Youxuan's mouth.
The Old Master's expression turned very ugly at once; was this the number one beauty of Jiangzhou?
Although she was indeed very pretty... she was clearly a fool!
The butler poured half a cup of tea and handed it to Shi Youxuan, asking her to serve tea to the Old Master.
She looked at the small teacup, did not take it, and shook her head: "That won't do, there's so little it won't quench my thirst; you have to change it for a big cup."
"No need."
Sheng Runruo refused Shi Youxuan's tea, had the butler take her out, and then sternly questioned Sheng Hanyu about what was going on.
"Can you not tell what is going on?"
Sheng Hanyu's tone was flat, a trace of mockery flashing across his face.
It was too easy for the Old Master to investigate the truth of the matter, and he soon uncovered the Shi Family's scheme of swapping the bride—the eldest daughter had gone on the blind date, and the second daughter had married in her place.
"Bastards."
Sheng Runruo smashed his teacup; if it were up to his temperament, he would have sent Shi Youxuan back immediately.
Even if his precious grandson could not see, he could not marry a fool!
