Chapter 89: Divine Assist
Jian Yining hit someone while still sounding perfectly justified: "Sheng Yukai, I warn you, there are legal consequences for talking nonsense. Do you believe I'll sue you for defamation?"
Sheng Yukai believed him.
Furthermore, he believed that "defamation" was the least of it; Jian Yining and the Jian Family had even more formidable tricks waiting for him.
If it hadn't been for his concern for the old master all these years, the Jian Family would have made their move against him long ago!
He and the Jian Family were mortal enemies; there was absolutely no possibility of reconciliation.
Since reconciliation was impossible, there was no need to be hypocritical.
"Who are you trying to scare? Jian Yining, you bring people to my doorstep to provoke me, and you still want to sue me for defamation? Do you think the police and the courts are run by your Jian Family? Can you do whatever you want?"
"That's right, you got a problem with that?"
Jian Yining pointed at the endless stream of cars and people arriving behind him: "If you've got a problem, call the police. Report me for provoking trouble and see if they drag me away or you away."
He bet that Sheng Yukai wouldn't dare—and he bet right!
Sheng Yukai truly didn't dare call the police. If the police came, they would definitely investigate. Although all the evidence had been destroyed, he was a thief with a guilty conscience and still worried they might uncover something else.
But despite his guilty conscience, he kept his mouth tough: "Just you wait. You and Sheng Hanyu are in this together. You killed my grandfather and still want to forcibly occupy the Sheng Family. I won't call the police, I'll call the reporters!"
Those reporters had taken his money, so naturally, they would speak on his behalf. Sheng Yukai wasn't stupid; he just hadn't used his brain in the right place.
The phone was snatched away the moment he took it out. He was just about to lose his temper when he saw the person who had grabbed the phone: Sheng Hai.
"Father, you..."
Sheng Hai ignored him. For once, he managed to squeeze a smile onto his face and said to Jian Yining, "Dear nephew, don't lower yourself to the level of this good-for-nothing. With such a huge tragedy suddenly befalling our family, he's just anxious and speaking nonsense. If he has done anything wrong, I apologize to you and your girlfriend on his behalf."
After speaking, he bowed deeply to Jian Yining and Yingzi, his attitude extremely humble.
Jian Yining knew what kind of person Sheng Hai was; he might look humble on the outside, but who knew what kind of evil he was brewing in his bones.
"Where are Sheng Hanyu and Sheng Zerong? They said if they didn't come out in ten minutes, we should call the police. Do you want to let them out, or should I call the police?" Jian Yining said with a half-smile.
"Oh, we were discussing the arrangements for Father's memorial service. We originally intended for you all to come in and sit, but since my nephew is worried, let them come out." Sheng Hai winked at his son, signaling him to release them.
In this situation, wanting to detain people was simply impossible.
Sheng Yukai was unwilling but had no choice. He returned to the living room and told his bodyguards to release the few people: "You can go. Don't go outside and talk nonsense. Grandfather's memorial service hasn't been held yet, and the old man cared about his reputation his whole life. Whether or not he gets his final bit of dignity is up to you two."
"Eldest Young Master, let's go."
Sheng Zerong stepped forward to pull Sheng Hanyu, but he didn't move: "You go out. I want to find out exactly how Grandfather died." He had come here specifically to get to the bottom of this matter.
He hadn't asked anything yet, and he wouldn't leave without a single clue.
Although he hadn't asked anything, there were plenty of questions. Sheng Hanyu knew that the sooner he figured it out, the better; if he waited too long, the evidence would be destroyed, and he really wouldn't be able to investigate anything.
But Sheng Zerong didn't know his thoughts. They had finally gotten a chance to leave, and he actually wouldn't go?
Sheng Zerong steeled his heart: "Fine, if you aren't leaving, I'm not leaving either. I'll stay with you."
Zhang Ma and the driver were Sheng Hanyu's trusted aides, old servants who had followed him for years. Seeing this, they refused to abandon the Eldest Young Master, so no one left.
There was a standoff inside, and there was a standoff outside as well!
Jian Yining's men had already surrounded the Sheng Family Mansion. At the same time, they had sent many reporters over to photograph everything inside on the spot, and the reporters interviewed Sheng Hai about the content reported in the news.
"Mr. Sheng, may I ask who will be in charge of the Sheng Family from now on?"
"You said this morning that cremating the old master was the decision of the Eldest Young Master, Sheng Hanyu, but we investigated and found that the Eldest Young Master was still unconscious in the hospital this morning. May I ask why you lied? Are you trying to hide something?"
"Mr. Sheng, there are rumors outside now that the Sheng Family will fall into the hands of your second son. What is your take on this?"
Sheng Hai was surrounded by reporters; he couldn't leave even if he wanted to.
But he didn't want to answer a single one of these questions. They were all traps; no matter how he answered, it would be wrong.
He didn't even need to use his brain to know they were traps, and they were all too familiar, because these were the very tactics he had thought up to use against Sheng Hanyu. He just never imagined they would be used on himself!
"Mr. Sheng, why aren't you answering?"
"Does not answering mean you're tacitly admitting it?"
Then the reporters discussed among themselves: "Since he's tacitly admitting it, shall we publish it like this?"
"Publish it. If you don't dare, I'll be the first to publish it. Exclusive headline."
Then the reporters all went off to grab the headline. Sheng Hai couldn't stop them in time before he was pushed aside by Jian Yining's men.
It seemed he hadn't done anything, yet he had been set up.
Designing such a plot for someone else felt great, but when it all fell on himself, the feeling was terrible!
He didn't know that Yingzi was the one behind all of this. Jian Yining controlled the scene on the surface, while Yingzi stood in an inconspicuous corner, seemingly playing on his phone, but in reality, he had already investigated most of what this father and son had done in secret.
The reporters were also found by Yingzi, using the Jian Family's name.
Jian Fu supported them one hundred percent in this matter, sparing no cost and disregarding the consequences.
Sheng Hai was having a hard time outside, and Sheng Yukai and Bai Xue were having an equally difficult time inside.
Sheng Hanyu didn't waste words; he just kept pressing on one question—why did the house catch fire?
Sheng Yukai had a guilty conscience; his answers were inconsistent, and he was immediately caught in the discrepancies, which were then relentlessly pursued.
Bai Xue wanted to help her son muddle through, but she was blocked by her younger son.
Every time she said something, her younger son would retort, and in the end, she didn't help at all and almost fainted from anger!
"Call the police."
Sheng Hanyu made up his mind.
Sheng Yukai was taken away by the police to give a statement, and everyone in the mansion also had to be questioned one by one.
Because Sheng Hanyu had an alibi, he was cleared of suspicion.
Sheng Hanyu Villa.
He locked himself in the Study, not letting anyone in; many beer bottles stood scattered across the table and floor, and Sheng Hanyu huddled under the table, continuing to pour drink into his mouth, his face already covered in tears.
He held a black-and-white photograph in his arms; it was his grandfather's funeral portrait.
He could not show his grief in front of others, so he could only hide away alone to mourn his grandfather.
The memorial service for the old master had not yet been held, and the ashes had not been buried; Sheng Hanyu swore he would find out the cause of death before letting his grandfather be laid to rest, otherwise the old master could not be at peace underground.
"Knock, knock, knock."
The housekeeper knocked on the door: "Eldest Young Master, Miss Yingzi is here; she has something very important to tell you."
In reality, Yingzi did not want to come; she came mainly because her luck was bad.
Four people drew lots, she drew the one, so she came.
"What is it?"
Yingzi said from outside: "Sheng Yukai has been released, acquitted of all charges."
"Bang!"
The bottle in his hand shattered, glass shards pierced his hand, but Sheng Hanyu felt no pain at all; he only felt monstrous hatred, and even had an urge to destroy the whole world.
"Come in and speak."
After saying this, he realized she could not enter because he had locked the door from the inside.
"Wait."
Sheng Hanyu crawled up from the floor, failing a few times before succeeding, but as soon as he took a step, he knelt back down on the floor; his legs were numb.
There was quite a commotion inside, and Yingzi was a bit worried: "Sheng Hanyu, are you alright?"
"I'm fine."
He said he was fine, but when the door opened and she saw his appearance, it still gave Yingzi a shock!
It had only been three days since they last met, and he had turned himself into this ghost of a person.
The clothes on his body were worn like a rag, filthy and full of wrinkles, his hair was a mess like a bird's nest, and although he had wiped his face, traces of crying were still visible, with dark blue stubble sprouting on his chin...
His whole person had also thinned by a circle, looking haggard and wretched, and his hand was still bleeding!
"You're injured?"
