Chapter 1270: Ireland. Beth
When Li Yue awoke, his vision took in a scene that was utterly unfamiliar.
The roof was crude, the walls drafty, and scarcely a piece of furniture remained intact.
Li Yue sat up, rubbing his temples; the events of last night had come one after another, leaving his mind a complete muddle, unable to recall exactly how he had ended up here.
Just as he pondered for a moment, a strange voice reached his ears.
"You have awakened."
A girl of fifteen or sixteen walked in from the doorway, carrying a bowl of greenish broth, which she placed on the table.
"Who are you? How did I end up here?" Li Yue asked.
"My name is Ireland. Beth," the girl replied, then continued, "This is my home."
"Your home?"
"Yes, you collapsed unconscious on the road two days ago; my grandfather and I found you, so we brought you back," Ireland. Beth answered.
"Oh, I see!"
Li Yue nodded, then immediately asked, "Where is your family? Why haven't I seen them?"
Ireland. Beth smiled brightly and said, "Grandfather went up the mountain to find medicine for you."
"Besides your grandfather, where are your parents? Where are they?"
At this moment, Li Yue spoke up, filled with curiosity.
Hearing these words, the girl's expression underwent a slight, subtle shift.
She lowered her head, remained silent for a moment, and after a long while, slowly began to speak.
"They are all dead; they died in the battle against the Demon Clan."
As Ireland. Beth said these words, her face was full of sorrow, and her eyes were filled with the light of hatred.
Her tone was very flat, yet it made one feel chilled to the bone, as if this matter had dug a hole in her heart, causing blood to flow freely, making one unable to resist the urge to comfort her.
"I'm sorry for bringing up bad memories," Li Yue began to apologize to her; he could understand Ireland. Beth's feelings, after all, her own relatives had been killed by others, yet he had made her recall those extremely painful things.
The girl gently shook her head, showing herself to be very understanding.
"It's fine, you don't need to apologize to me; I just remembered some unpleasant things; it's not that I blame you."
"Thank you," Li Yue said gratefully.
Ireland. Beth shook her head, then glanced once more at the broth on the table and said, "By the way, Grandfather instructed that when you wake up, you must take the medicine; here, your medicine."
As she spoke, the girl picked up the bowl from the table and held it out before Li Yue.
Li Yue picked up the spoon, scooped up a spoonful, and drank it into his mouth.
The taste was somewhat bitter, feeling just like swallowing gallbladder bile.
Seeing Li Yue's action, the girl hurriedly reminded him, "You must drink it all in one breath for the medicine's effect to be maximized." Li Yue drank the broth in the bowl in one breath; the medicinal taste filled his mouth, and the bitter flavor spread across his tongue. After finishing, Li Yue glanced at the girl beside him, "Thank you."
As the voice fell, Li Yue's gaze swept around the surroundings, finally returning to rest upon Ireland. Beth.
"By the way, what place is this? What is its name? Where is it located?"
Li Yue hurled a string of questions at her.
Ireland. Beth was stunned, then replied, "This is Beth Fortress; this place is several thousand kilometers from our Lord's central position; this is a border city of our Lord."
"Oh? A border city?" Li Yue nodded; this was the first time he had heard of such a place and was not quite clear on the specific situation. He continued asking, "Is it the territory of that Lord?" "Uh... it seems... what was it called again?"
Ireland. Beth wore a puzzled expression, thought carefully for a long while, then suddenly realized, "Oh, right, he is the Lord of the Death Lord; I heard my grandfather say so."
But when Li Yue heard this sentence, his entire complexion immediately changed slightly.
A bitter smile formed at the corner of his mouth, and his heart was a mixture of five flavors.
He had not expected to arrive in the Death Lord's territory; he truly did not know what to say.
Seeing Li Yue's expression change somewhat, the girl tilted her head, looking at him with great curiosity.
"What's wrong? Why did your face suddenly become so ugly?"
Li Yue shook his head, forced a smile, and said, "Nothing is wrong; I just remembered some unpleasant things."
Hearing Li Yue's words, the girl nodded her head, indicating she understood.
Then, looking at Li Yue curiously, she asked, "By the way, I still don't know what you do, what your name is, or how you received such severe injuries?"
When Li Yue heard this question, his brows furrowed tightly, not knowing how to explain.
First, his current identity was truly not something easy to reveal.
It was not that Li Yue did not trust the other party; after all, the fact that the other party was willing to save him indicated trustworthiness.
It was just that one should not fear the ten thousand, but fear the one in ten thousand.
What if he spoke out his identity, and then accidentally it was revealed through their mouths?
If the Demon Clan did not know, it would be fine; once they knew, they would certainly come knocking.
At that time, it would be trouble.
So, for the sake of their safety, Li Yue decided to lie.
Li Yue spoke, saying, "I am a soldier in the Lord's Allied Army, named Li Yue; because during the battle with the Demon Clan, I accidentally got separated from the main force, so I ended up here." "So that's how it is, Li Yue; that is a very nice name," Ireland. Beth said.
As the voice had just fallen, she suddenly felt that this situation seemed a bit off.
Looking at Li Yue, she questioned, "You just said you got separated during the battle with the Demon Clan?" Li Yue nodded slightly, "Oh, what's wrong? Is there a problem?" After hearing this, Ireland. Beth narrowed her eyes slightly, as if thinking about something.
"Since you are from the Lord's Allied Army, you should know where the battlefield between the Demon Clan and the Allied Army is located, right?" Ireland. Beth suddenly asked.
Hearing this, Li Yue was stunned, and only then did he realize.
The battlefield was at least several hundred li away from here; such a far distance, in the eyes of ordinary people, an injured person would simply not be able to walk so far.
Yet Li Yue had managed to accomplish this very thing.
No matter how one looked at it, the reason behind this was worth pondering.
Li Yue pondered this question and did not answer Ireland. Beth's question.
His silence immediately aroused Ireland's suspicion.
