Chapter 24: Above Taishan, Nine Dragons Come
Fang Yu's gaze drifted to a short distance away — a fellow with not a shred of cultivation base, who at this very moment had the nerve to leap out and question his identity.
From the look of things, this man had some past grudge against Ye Fan, so much so that he always liked to jump out and target Ye Fan.
Ye Fan's expression shifted slightly: "Liu Yunzhi, I hope you don't bring trouble upon yourself — don't let disaster fly out of your mouth."
"Oh, really? What do you mean, disaster flying out of my mouth?"
The man called Liu Yunzhi still seemed utterly arrogant — after all, this was a society ruled by law, and broad daylight besides.
"Disaster flying out of your mouth? That's exactly what just happened."
Fang Yu moved, and in the next instant he was standing right in front of Liu Yunzhi.
Slap.
A palm struck him across the face.
In the blink of an eye, Liu Yunzhi was sent sprawling to the ground by a single slap.
Then Fang Yu took another step, arriving several zhang away.
He could have killed the wretch with one slap, but for now he still had to give Earth some face — once he left Earth, if such a fool dared to be stupid again, there would be only death.
"What?"
"Liu Yunzhi was just slapped to the ground by him like that?"
"His speed is incredible — who on earth is he?"
"What did Ye Fan mean? This Daoist Priest seems to have real skill!"
"Wu Gong. So this is the Wu Gong of Huaxia!"
A great crowd broke into shock, looks of disbelief spreading across their faces.
Some felt Fang Yu was far too ruthless — to knock a man to the ground over a single sentence — while others sensed that Fang Yu seemed unfathomably mysterious. Among them, a foreigner cried out in astonishment, "Kung Fu of Huaxia!", so awestruck that he wished he could follow Fang Yu at once to cultivate Huaxia martial arts.
To all of this, Fang Yu paid no heed; he headed straight for Taishan.
Taishan — towering, solemn, majestic in bearing — revered as the chief of the Five Sacred Mountains, hailed as the foremost mountain beneath heaven.
Since ancient times, Taishan had been a sacred ground; in antiquity it was held to be the birthplace of the sun, no mountain greater, no history older.
This mountain was magnificent and vast, steeped in a dense weight of history, its origins traceable back to the age of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors; legend had it that divine spirits dwelled upon Taishan.
Emperors who had built great and glorious deeds — such as Qin Shi Huang and Han Wu Di — had all once journeyed to Taishan to perform the unparalleled Feng and Shan ceremonies. As for a certain Song-dynasty Emperor who also went to perform the rites, that was another matter entirely.
Beyond these, Fuxi, Shennong, Huang Di and others likewise had deeds of consecrating Taishan to their name; all of this cast a veil of deep mystery over the mountain.
Fang Yu had come to Taishan this time, and began climbing step by step.
Ye Fan followed behind Fang Yu, ascending Taishan together with him.
"Brother Fang Yu, that Liu Yunzhi has had some past quarrel with me — I'm truly sorry. He spoke wildly and dragged you into it."
Ye Fan walked beside Fang Yu and spoke.
"It's nothing serious. In another place he'd already be dead, and he wouldn't be running his mouth anymore."
Fang Yu didn't care — a mere ant; if it grew too insolent, one only needed to crush it.
After all, he came from the Life Great World, and the savage nature of that world meant that for someone like him, killing a person who had offended him required no second thought.
Something stirred in Ye Fan's heart; he sensed another side of Brother Fang Yu before him. This being was mild and courteous in his dealings, but the moment one offended him, Lei Tingzhinu would descend without delay.
"So this is the confidence of an ancient noble house."
Ye Fan thought to himself.
The two men made their way up Taishan; only by coming here in person could one truly feel its grandeur and majesty.
Whether viewed from afar or observed up close, one could feel that vast, sweeping grandeur, stirring the heart to surging emotion.
Before the mighty sweep of Taishan, one might even fall into an illusion, as if the sun, moon and stars in the heavens themselves would seem trivial.
It was a shattering sensation, making the spirit tremble.
How could a single mountain be more terrifying than the sun, moon and stars?
This mountain clearly held a great secret.
Fang Yu and Ye Fan walked together, taking in the scenery atop Taishan — flowing springs and plunging waterfalls, lush ancient trees; amid solemn grandeur there was also a touch of the ethereal, and with drifting mists and clouds it seemed all the more mysterious and profound.
"Why hasn't something fallen from the sky yet?"
Fang Yu controlled his pace, not rushing to the summit; every now and then he paused, waiting for a certain event to occur.
At last, several black dots appeared on the horizon, then gradually grew larger, and the Lei Zhisheng of wind and thunder rolled in.
Nine colossal creatures suddenly plummeted from the heavens, like nine black Changhe falling down. At that instant, the expressions of everyone on Taishan froze, unsure what was happening.
The crowd stared in utter astonishment and realized those were nine enormous dragon corpses, dragging a bronze ancient coffin as they descended toward the peak of Taishan.
Dragons — beings of legend — and yet here they truly appeared, and nine dragon corpses at that!
What on earth was the origin of all this?
"How could this be?"
Ye Fan was shaken.
The tourists on the mountain, too shocked to even breathe, could not imagine such a thing happening. Moments later, many of them scattered in all directions, fleeing the approaching massive dragon corpses.
It was a staggering sight — nine dragons drawing a coffin, descending upon Taishan.
Terrified screams, helpless wails — the crowd fled in all directions.
The nine dragons drawing the coffin did not appear to fall with particular violence, but when they landed, they still heavily shook the peak of Taishan.
The very earth atop the Jade Emperor Summit was split by the nine dragons into great fissures, soil and stone flying, dust and sand filling the air.
That bronze ancient coffin also smashed onto the peak of Taishan; the mountain quaked as if an earthquake had struck. Countless boulders tumbled down with a rumbling roar, and many people were caught in the blast radius, their flesh torn and mangled by the falling rocks.
Some of the unluckiest fell straight off before they ever got a clear look at the nine dragons drawing the coffin, and were already dead.
The trembling finally ceased and the mountain grew still, but Taishan was already in utter chaos; many had fallen — it was a scene of complete pandemonium, with countless people bleeding from head wounds.
Fang Yu's expression was calm; he had foreseen all of this long ago, and those tumbling stones could not possibly harm him in the slightest.
His cultivation base had after all already reached the 5th Stage of Physical Body, the Realm of Divine Power, granting him five thousand catties of tremendous strength, so some rocks and stones could not crush him to death.
Otherwise, before even touching the Nine Dragons Coffin, his whole body would have been smashed to death by the falling rocks, and what chance would there be to obtain a destiny.
"What is this thing? There are actually dragons!"
Ye Fan stood beside Fang Yu, looking at the nine enormous dragon corpses not far away, most of their bodies lying across the mountain peak like a black Great Wall, full of a stunning sense of power, very striking to the eye.
And that twenty-meter-long bronze coffin appeared simple and unadorned, with some blurry ancient patterns on it, full of the vicissitudes of the years.
"Dragons, this kind of thing, it's normal for them to exist. Since there are legends, then they must have once existed."
