Chapter 28: Thanks for the Bounty of the Great Thunderclap Temple
Fang Yu's gaze swept about, searching for benefits on Mars.
Behind him, Ye Fan and Pang Bo followed.
Soon the three arrived before an ancient temple, where green lamps and old Buddhas stood, the lamplight no larger than a bean.
Before the ancient temple, an old bodhi tree stood gnarled like a coiling dragon, its whole body withered, with only five or six crystal-clear green leaves dotted here and there two meters above the ground, each leaf like green jade.
Seeing this, both Fang Yu and Ye Fan sensed a peculiar charm; the ancient temple and the bodhi tree complemented each other, brimming with ancient air, evoking a hazy sense of time flowing and ages changing.
"There's actually an ancient temple here—what is that tree? Above the main hall, it seems to be the Great Thunderclap Temple?"
Pang Bo looked at a bronze plaque not far away and recognized what was written on it.
Great Thunderclap Temple.
This was truly startling.
After all, the Great Thunderclap Temple was something out of legend.
"If this is the Great Thunderclap Temple, then that tree should be the ancient bodhi tree. We actually saw an ancient bodhi tree? Isn't this the place where the Buddha dwells?"
Ye Fan had read more books and knew the stories of the Buddha and the ancient bodhi tree, as well as the matters of the Buddha and the Great Thunderclap Temple.
"Since we've come here, let each of us rely on our own fortune to obtain treasures."
Fang Yu spoke, then stepped into the main hall.
With a sweep of his large hand, he grabbed out an alms bowl; light flowed over the bowl, and it seemed that with just a bit of urging, it could unleash terrifying power.
Fang Yu did not stop; with another move, he grabbed out a meditation cushion.
Though this cushion was old, time had not worn it away—clearly a treasure, with a certain Dao resonance flowing through it.
One could imagine that sitting on this cushion to comprehend the Dao would bring extra gains, perhaps even doubling the results with half the effort.
Fang Yu moved again; the Pine Crane Longevity Fist now displayed its powerful effect, his movements several times more agile than the nimblest ape, and in an instant he obtained a string of sandalwood prayer beads.
These prayer beads, worn by time, had not been damaged in the slightest; once the dust was blown away, they still held a faint luster.
The next moment, before a stone Buddha, he found half a broken wooden fish; carved upon it were three Bodhisattvas—some solemn, some compassionate, some majestic and awe-inspiring—all vivid and lifelike.
Clang.
Fang Yu's foot broke through the dust, and he obtained a palm-sized broken bronze bell; this bronze bell had originally been a wondrous treasure, but missing a piece of its bronze wall, it appeared less than perfect.
When the bronze bell was shaken, its chime rang out, Buddhist sounds lingering, calming the heart and spirit.
Flowing cloud patterns were carved upon the bronze bell, simple yet imbued with Zen intent, condensed with Buddhist resonance.
He did not linger, and at the foot of another stone Buddha found half a jade ruyi; wiping away the dust, the crystal-clear remnant jade immediately flowed out with specks of radiance.
There was also half a golden pestle, obtained by Fang Yu; once this treasure was unearthed anew and the dust wiped away, it was extremely condensed—had one end not been damaged, it would count as a perfect and powerful masterpiece.
This treasure bore a very imposing name: the Vajra Pestle, reputed to destroy enemies with invincibility, representing invincible, indestructible wisdom and Buddha-nature—a treasure only a sage could possess.
Now it had fallen into Fang Yu's hands.
Fang Yu gave it a slight swing; half the Vajra Pestle swept across like a golden flash of lightning, its radiance dazzling, full of imposing force.
Besides these, Fang Yu also obtained a bronze censer, a wooden ruler, a bronze bell, a fish drum, and even a complete string of prayer beads—six beads in all, crystal dewy, of a pale gold color, translucent as crystal.
These six beads were all pale-gold crystals, much like resplendent gemstones, and easily called to mind the relics left after a Buddha's passing.
The six beads were strung together by a transparent fine thread, and on each bead was a faint humanoid pattern.
These six beads were actually complete, unlike the Vajra Pestle, bronze bell, bronze censer, and others which were somewhat incomplete.
"The things obtained this time are truly not bad—even returning to the Eternal Life Realm they would still be useful. It's just a pity that these supreme treasures left by the ancient great power have now lost ninety-nine percent of their power; placed in the Eternal Life Realm, they can only count as spirit artifacts."
Fang Yu was in excellent spirits; he naturally knew what this place was.
This was the place where the ancient demon saints were suppressed; the power of those magic treasures could well be imagined. Yet now, the once incomparably formidable magic treasures had lost ninety-nine percent of their power—even those that could rival Dao artifacts in the Eternal Life Realm had now become mere spirit artifacts.
But even if they could only compare to spirit artifacts, for Fang Yu they were still fine treasures. After all, his status within the Fang family was merely that of a Fang family disciple; having gained the family head's favor, he had been rewarded with a single magic artifact sword. Now, having obtained so many treasures whose power rivaled spirit artifacts all at once, he had made a tremendous profit.
Trading a fowling piece for a cannon—a massive boost in strength.
Fang Yu stored most of the magic treasures into the Ten Thousand Realms King Map, keeping the Vajra Pestle and the six beads in his hands.
After all, once the many magic treasures used to suppress demons and monsters were taken by him, the suppressed demons and monsters might very well run amok.
"Brother Fang Yu, does this place truly have a connection to the ancient Buddhas?"
Ye Fan held a bronze lamp in his hand; this bronze lamp looked simple and unadorned in style, yet was spotlessly clean, as if it could repel dust.
At this moment he looked at the hall before him and gently blew once at the bronze lamp; immediately the flame within the lamp flew out, transforming into a wall of fire that seemed capable of burning all things.
Ye Fan's expression changed.
This bronze lamp was absolutely a heavy treasure, and he had obtained it; with one blow now, it seemed capable of slaying demons and monsters.
Could the bronze lamp be a treasure used to suppress demons and monsters?
"Indeed so. This place holds many benefits; the treasures we obtained are all ancient supreme treasures. It's just a pity that many of the restrictions have already been broken—otherwise, burning mountains and boiling seas would be no problem at all."
Fang Yu watched this scene and knew that the power of the bronze lamp Ye Fan had obtained was absolutely not bad; this fortuitous chance had fallen to Ye Fan.
"Huh?? Such powerful ability! What other treasures are here? I didn't get anything just now."
