Chapter 6: Going to War (Please Add to Library)
The war with the Upper Green Forest came very suddenly.
In the Green Banyan Newborn Month, while Aaron was training his group of cannon fodder subordinates, Turner Shorien, a Knight under his father, rode over on a warhorse and shouted loudly: "The Davis Family has launched an attack; the Lord orders you to head to Black Crow Dune immediately!"
"Understood!"
Aaron struck his chest with his fist, looked at his still-bewildered subordinates, and barked: "What are you standing there for? Go equip yourselves immediately; we are going to war!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions of all the cannon fodder were not very good.
However, the training and obedience of these past days at least let them know whose orders they should follow, and with the urging of Squad Leaders like Sanchez and Gelin, they soon stabilized.
"My Lord!"
Bazhi came to Aaron's side at this moment; he was wearing a tattered Iron Helmet he had found somewhere, and other than that, he had no other protective gear on his body. On his face, hidden beneath a thick beard, there seemed to be a trace of bitterness: "Can we... win?"
"We must win!"
Aaron replied in a deep voice; as a member of the Sotos Family, if they were defeated, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Thinking of this, he could not help but curse his Golden Finger as trash even more.
Over this period, through daily dreaming, increasing energy—or rather, the Mysterious Unit—had already strengthened the power of his consciousness within the dream.
At least, he could move faster and perceive more.
But... Aaron in the real world did not even feel a bit more energetic...
Sure enough, it is indeed very difficult to bring power from a dream into this world.
Suppressing the thoughts in his heart, Aaron led his team toward Black Crow Dune.
This dune was located at the boundary between the Upper Green Forest and the Lower Green Forest; the surroundings were a wasteland of dunes with no value, so it was not a pity to use it as a battlefield.
'The timing, however, is chosen quite strangely!'
Aaron looked at the farmland on both sides of the road and pondered to himself.
The timekeeping methods of the Green Forest People were still very primitive, merely dividing the year into a dozen or so months based vaguely on plant growth.
Why say a dozen or so... because these months were all vague.
According to Aaron's understanding, it was likely because there were problems with timekeeping, resulting in huge errors that reached the point where even setting leap years and Leap Months could not adjust them, so they simply left the number of months in each year uncertain, letting everything follow nature, especially the state of the 【Green Banyan Tree Grandmother】.
Above the Sotos territory, there was a Green Banyan Tree that had been designated as the 'Divine Tree', and the months were then determined according to the state of the banyan tree.
Of course, because the banyan tree is an evergreen plant and does not shed leaves, autumn in the Sotos territory was a very vague concept...
And now, it was the spring when all things grow!
In ancient times, this was the farming season!
The standing forces of the two great lords were no more than one hundred; wars required the conscription of Militia, and if they fought like this, it would delay production, and a famine would inevitably occur the following year!
'The Davis Family shouldn't be so stupid, right? Or... have they stored a large amount of grain in advance, so they want to provoke the Sotos Family into starting a war in the spring, delaying the sowing, and as long as they drag it out until next year, the Sotos Family will collapse without a fight?'
'This could also explain why they were the ones to initiate the war first...'
A thought occurred to Aaron, and he felt a chill in his heart, knowing that the Davis Family likewise had desires and schemes for the complete Green Forest.
Black Crow Dune.
At this time, it had already been divided into northern and southern parts, where military camps were stationed.
According to Aaron's estimation, the Sotos territory had sent about 1,800 troops this time, while the Davis Family had nearly 2,000!
"This is indeed no longer a village brawl over a wild boar; at the very least, it's a township battle!"
Aaron, wearing refined Leather Armor, walked through the layers of camps and entered the main tent.
Theodore and Colin were both wearing high-quality armor, followed by several Knights; seeing him enter, they all revealed a trace of a smile.
"Father!"
Aaron stood straight, his expression resolute, and struck his chest with his fist.
"This is your first time participating in a war; follow Knight Alfred, he will teach you well."
Theodore finally did not pit his son to death, pointing to a Knight with slightly graying hair who was holding a huge Meteor Hammer.
"I obey your command."
Aaron knew that this old Knight was a veteran of many battles and possessed rich experience; being by his side, while not comparable to Colin being by Theodore's side, was still relatively safe.
Woo—!
Amidst the desolate sound of horns, Aaron followed Knight Alfred to a slightly higher part of the dune.
Nearly four thousand people formed two different Army Formations, creating a huge battlefield around the dune; the dark green and blue flags seemed to have divided the earth into two camps.
Among them, the Sotos Family's flag had a dark green background with a branched banyan tree mark on it.
As for the Davis Family's crest, it was a single vertical eye.
"Remember, on your first time on the battlefield, do not panic; keep your family motto in mind," Alfred glanced at Aaron and instructed.
"Steadfast!"
Aaron uttered the family motto and thought of the Davis Family's motto—'Insight Into Everything'.
"Very good, it has begun!"
Alfred said indifferently.
At this moment, Aaron saw the enemy's Army Formation begin to move slowly.
At the very front were, likewise, peasant soldiers in rags with tattered weapons; they were panicked, driven by the regular soldiers and Knights behind them, and launched an attack toward the Sotos Family!
"Listen to my command, Archers, fire!"
In the middle of the Army Formation, Mark, who was in charge of the Archers, roared and waved one hand.
A rain of arrows fell, hitting many unlucky ones; they fell to the ground, and some who were not pierced in vital spots were still wailing.
But this was useless! Their comrades behind them were swept along and trampled directly over them; soon, there was no more sound.
Boom!
When two armies charge, there might only be a few volleys of arrows before the two forces collide like a torrent.
"Charge!"
Alfred roared, mounted his warhorse, and with his full suit of armor, he looked like a moving metal fortress.
Aaron was positioned on the right flank of the Sotos Family, and at this moment, he commanded: "Charge formation, forward! Forward!"
Although Squad Leaders like Bazhi had fear in their eyes, they still executed the orders well, making this small unit of several dozen people a part of the war.
Boom!
Aaron charged across a distance, and suddenly the view before him darkened as a flash of azure appeared on the opposite side.
The enemy had appeared!
"Kill!"
He brandished the Cross Sword in his hand and slashed down without hesitation.
The Militia on the opposite side were originally just farmers; even if they had the courage to kill after a few days of training and had viciousness in their eyes, their equipment was too poor, and the pitchfork was snapped in two by the Cross Sword, with the upper half of the man's body also being slashed off diagonally, spilling intestines and internal organs all over the ground.
'A bit of a miscalculation!'
Aaron withdrew his longsword, assumed a defensive stance, and remained vigilant against enemies from all directions, his brows furrowing slightly: 'Dealing with these Militia who have no armor doesn't require using the Cross Sword; a rapier would suffice. I must conserve my stamina... regardless of whether we are retreating or pursuing later!'
