Chapter 81: Dormitory Room 105
Not lingering long in front of Dormitory Room 607, Chen Shoushan went downstairs toward the direction of the main gate.
Thud, thud, thud……
The entire dormitory building remained quiet, only the crisp sound of leather shoes striking the floor echoed between floors.
While going downstairs, Chen Shoushan clearly noticed the surroundings growing dim, as if he had unknowingly stayed a long time in Dormitory Room 606, and by then the sun had already set.
From the fifth floor down to the first, Chen Shoushan, without any concealment, actually suffered no attack along the way.
The dormitory gate on the first floor had returned to its locked state, exactly as when Chen Shoushan first entered, as if time had been reset.
Through the locked iron gate, Chen Shoushan could see the scenery outside Building No. 1.
The lingering sun was like blood, its crimson light spilling onto the open ground beyond the iron gate—the sun was actually about to set!
"This Ghost Realm is interesting……"
Chen Shoushan said while admiring the view outside the gate.
Leaving aside its danger, this twilight beauty is indeed rare, unlike other Ghost Realms that are pitch‑black and reveal nothing.
After standing and admiring the scenery for a while, Chen Shoushan headed toward Dormitory Room 105; since both rooms were entered at the same time, it makes no sense that the students in Room 607 were attacked while those in Room 105 were not, right?
It was only a few steps away; soon Chen Shoushan stood before the door of Dormitory Room 105, and as expected, the room's door was also closed.
Yet there was no bloody smell in the air, which was somewhat unexpected for Chen Shoushan—could it be that the students of Dormitory Room 105 had not violated the killing rule and had all left?
Without much hesitation, he again used the Ghost Firewood Knife to pry the door open.
In the faint sunset, one could see people lying on all eight beds in the dormitory, yet no bloody odor emanated.
The floor was still littered with paper balls, and the clear path Chen Shoushan had made earlier had, as expected, disappeared.
Everything fears comparison; compared to the situation in Dormitory Room 607, the paper balls scattered all over Dormitory Room 105 suddenly seemed acceptable.
"Two different killing methods?" Chen Shoushan said, somewhat surprised; the condition in Dormitory Room 607 was truly horrific—even without entering, one could feel the agony of being flayed and having tendons torn.
Meanwhile, Dormitory Room 105 appeared markedly quieter.
Holding the Ghost Firewood Knife, Chen Shoushan walked slowly into Dormitory Room 105, instinctively avoiding the paper scraps on the floor as he headed toward the bunk nearest the door.
The student lying on the bed had his back to Chen Shoushan; the blanket covered only his stomach, leaving the rest of his body exposed, apparently because the weather was too hot.
As he approached, Chen Shoushan's barbarian instinct gave no reaction, indicating that this action posed little danger.
Using the somewhat rusted blade of the Ghost Firewood Knife in his hand, he hooked the student's head, turning the face toward Chen Shoushan.
His eyes were tightly shut, his complexion pallid, and without breath his chest showed no rise and fall—clearly this classmate had been dead for a while.
However, upon Chen Shoushan's careful observation, he discovered an eerie smoothness on the student's face, a smoothness impossible for a human to possess.
Under his horrifying insight, Chen Shoushan quickly identified the source of this uncanny smoothness: the student's face was very stiff, lacking the softness of human skin.
Moreover, the student's skin was so smooth that no pores or fine hairs could be found, as if the figure lying here were not a human but a finely crafted doll.
"This killing method differs greatly from that in Dormitory Room 607……"
One is like a living hell, the other is eerily quiet—utterly bewildering!
Besides, Dormitory Room 607 still had at least three survivors, whereas Dormitory Room 105 suffered total annihilation—just from the death toll, the killing method that wiped out Room 105 seems even more horrifying.
Fortunately, however, both killing methods appear not to be of the will‑type.
"By the way, how did those three people who left Dormitory Room 607 get out of Building No. 1?"
The dormitory building's gate is locked, and without a key not everyone can twist the lock into a pretzel shape like Chen Shoushan can.
Ordinary students wouldn't have the dormitory building's gate key; such keys are usually held only by the dormitory manager.
And even if someone among them found a key, why would they deliberately lock the gate again after leaving?
After scanning the remaining seven beds around him, Chen Shoushan did not continue inspecting but turned and left Dormitory Room 105; the pressing matter now is to find Ye Feng first.
He really was a little afraid that Ye Feng might not hold out and die in some corner, which would be troublesome.
That set of indestructible Ghost Fangs, once unleashed, would cause casualties no less than those of two schools.
Standing not far from the dormitory gate, the lingering sun outside seemed about to set, and the interior of the dormitory building grew ever darker.
One thing Chen Shoushan can now be certain of is that he is absolutely inside a certain ghost's Ghost Realm, and the lingering sun outside the gate is part of that Ghost Realm.
When things go awry there must be a demon; if this is not a fantasy deliberately crafted by the Ghost Master, then this sudden lingering sun is likely some kind of killing rule within the Ghost Realm.
But whether the deaths in Dormitory Rooms 105 and 607 are related to this lingering sun remains unclear.
After all, Chen Shoushan suffered no attack inside the dormitory building, yet the students of those two rooms died inside their rooms; if they died from seeing the lingering sun, Chen Shoushan also saw it but was not attacked.
Could it be that the lingering sun is safe, and the real danger lies after it disappears?
Chen Shoushan must seriously consider this: should he leave Building No. 1 while the sun has not yet fully set, or wait until after it has completely set to depart?
These two different choices could lead to two different outcomes, but with the information currently known so scarce, Chen Shoushan does not know which choice is correct.
Fortunately, he has the capital for trial and error; two red Ghost Candles can at least guarantee his safety for a while.
While he was thinking, Chen Shoushan inadvertently glanced at the entrance of Dormitory Room 105, and his brows immediately furrowed.
The door of Dormitory Room 105 had somehow been closed……
Right hand gripping the knife, left hand in his pocket, Chen Shoushan strode toward Dormitory Room 105 without concealment.
Rhythmic footsteps echoed in the corridor.
At worst, I'll just bump into it—anyway, I'll have to face it sooner or later.
Although Chen Shoushan appeared perfectly calm, his left hand, tucked in his pocket, was actually gripping a red Ghost Candle tightly.
Strategically it can be disregarded, but tactically it must be taken seriously!
Once again he used the Ghost Firewood Knife to push open the door of Dormitory Room 105; in the dim light, everything was just as before.
The quiet dormitory, the eight people lying down, and that student with his back to Chen Shoushan—everything remained unchanged.
This time Chen Shoushan did not enter; he simply stood silently in the doorway, observing all of this.
At that moment, in the silent dormitory building, the building's broadcast suddenly sounded.
"Zzz…… moon, moon…… everyone evade…… zzzzz"
From the broadcast came a broken, intermittent sound.
