Chapter 41: Red and White Double Evil
On a desolate mountain path, a bizarre team was marching forward.
From a distance, a line of people wrapped either in White Cloth or in Red Cloth were moving forward.
At the front and rear of the team, there were four figures—one red, one white on each side—blowing a double-reed horn.
Their steps were stiff, their skin sallow, eyes vacant; apart from the suona, the whole team emitted only whimpering cries.
More strangely, in the middle of the team a Crimson Coffin was being carried by eight people—four in red, four in white.
A person dressed in white funeral clothes was kneeling atop the Crimson Coffin; his face was hidden by a Face-Covering Cloth painted with a Crying Face, making it impossible to see.
In front of the coffin, a dozen or so figures in funeral clothes were kneeling in orderly succession before the coffin;
Each time the coffin passed a kneeling figure, it would move back to the rear of the front‑kneeling line to kneel again.
At the same time, in front of the coffin, four people carried a wooden board on their shoulders; seated on the board was a bride, who held a Spirit Tablet affixed with a photo.
As the team advanced, strange yellow paper fell from the sky; upon touching the ground it instantly turned to ash, even though the paper had never been burned!
Logically, there were only about twenty people in the team, yet they were carrying various items, so their pace should not have been fast.
But whether carrying the coffin or the board, they seemed to feel no weight; regardless, they kept moving without a pause.
Moreover, the double-reed horn sound from the team was eerie, almost without rhythm, just continuous blowing without pause.
It was as if the double-reed horn player knew no musical sense and needed no breath.
While the team marched, suddenly a few figures appeared not far from the group.
The figure kneeling on the coffin seemed to notice the change and twisted the face hidden by the Face-Covering Cloth.
Even though his face was covered by White Cloth, he seemed to see the newly appeared figures in the team.
"Hmm? At this late hour, there are still people in the mountain?"
Zhang Hao looked with some puzzlement at the extra people in the team.
They were two men and a woman; one man held a Camera, appearing to be a photographer.
However, they now wore expressions of deep grief, faces wet with tears, following behind the dozen or so funeral ghost slaves who were bowing to the coffin.
Suddenly, another figure wrapped in White Cloth appeared ahead.
It was a man, his whole body swathed as if in a white sheet, with only a pallid face exposed.
"Ghost?"
Zhang Hao glanced at the newly added people and at the figure ahead, quickly deducing the general situation.
These unlucky souls must have encountered a ghost in the mountain, but when they reached the roadside, they ran into Zhang Hao's team.
After hearing the crying cries emitted when the ghost slaves knelt, they could not resist and were killed by the cries, becoming part of the funeral escort ghost slaves.
The ghost ahead must have seized its target, causing a clash between them.
"White Cloth? Perfect, the board under the bride still lacks a piece of covering cloth for the board."
Zhang Hao stared at the ghost ahead, taking no action, and even the ghost bride ahead remained motionless.
The ghost slaves kept carrying the coffin straight toward that ghost.
Just as they were about to contact the ghost, Zhang Hao, standing on the coffin, produced a White Porcelain Wine Jar and poured a cup of wine.
Soon, a ghost slave carrying the coffin took the cup and offered it to the ghost.
At that moment the advancing team halted, and the eerie crying grew louder, beginning to drown out the suona.
The White Cloth ghost stood still, making no move when the ghost slave handed over the wine; the two seemed locked in a stalemate. After a long while, the White Cloth ghost finally made a new move.
A twisted sorrowful expression appeared on the pallid face; it fell to its knees, and from beneath the White Cloth extended a pair of bloodless, pallid hands to take the wine and drink it down.
After drinking the cup, the White Cloth ghost's face flushed with color, its eyes slowly closed without movement, resembling a drunkard.
The team advanced once more.
However, when the ghost bride passed the White Cloth ghost, a ghost slave carrying the board tore the White Cloth from the ghost's body and placed it on the board.
The moment the White Cloth touched the board, it began to spread out on its own.
Soon, the board was enveloped by the White Cloth.
At the four corners of the board, several pieces of White Cloth, with no apparent support, strangely descended from mid‑air.
The four White Curtains linked together, resembling a roofless, four‑sided sedan chair.
All this happened quickly, and the team barely changed, except that three people appeared who wore neither funeral clothes nor red cloth.
When the team departed, only a 'person' with a ruddy face and closed eyes remained kneeling on the mountain path.
No, besides that, a Camera should also have fallen there.
"What a joke!"
"A ghost was solved like this by the Red and White Double Evil?"
"And the photo on the Spirit Tablet held by the ghost bride, isn't that Zhang Hao?"
Yang Jian stared at the livestream screen, his face full of disbelief.
He recalled that the Spirit Tablet should belong to a Fierce Ghost commanded by Guo Fan, the Ghost Tamer, so how did it end up in the ghost bride's hands?
And what about that wine? The ghost drank a cup, then without any resistance had the White Cloth on its body ripped off.
Having watched the entire livestream, Yang Jian concluded that the White Cloth must be crucial to that ghost.
Meanwhile, at Headquarters.
"What's going on? Why is this livestream only being noticed now?"
Cao Yanhua stared at the silent livestream on the computer screen, their complexion extremely grim.
"Deputy Minister Cao, the ghost in the livestream has a ghost face like Tong Qian's, capable of killing through sound transmission."
"In this livestream, everyone who heard the crying has already been killed; no one could report the news."
Beside Cao Yanhua, a man in a suit whispered.
Upon hearing this, Cao Yanhua fell silent.
The Laughing Ghost Face Ghost's Killing incident involving Tong Qian had only just passed, and they certainly wouldn't be unaware of this kind of supernatural terror.
In the livestream room, the Red and White Double Evil emit a crying that resembles the Laughing Ghost Face's laugh, and the sound broadcast through the livestream can kill via Ghost's Killing.
In that brief moment just now, even though Headquarters discovered it in time, the crying still caused massive casualties.
"Go investigate."
"Also, investigate the Red and White Double Evil's advance route; we absolutely cannot let this Ghost run amok like this any longer."
"Even if it has Restart and can't be detained, at least come up with a way to confine it somewhere for me, to prevent the impact from expanding."
