Chapter 62: The Wind That Rips the Darkness
However, Jiang Shangbai and Su Fan had just formed a team and walked forward for a short distance.
In Su Fan's astonished gaze, a tattered, eerie Straw Rope suddenly materialized out of thin air and slipped around Su Fan's neck.
"This is the Ghostly Servant's Straw Rope!"
Su Fan's expression grew solemn; after the spirit hall went out of control, the Ghostly Servant was battling the Red and White Double Evil for the Fierce Ghosts inside the bodies of these Ghost Tamers.
Although the Ghostly Servant itself cannot leave the spirit hall, those mourning Fierce Ghosts are no longer confined within it.
Moreover, the strangest part is that these mourning Fierce Ghosts cannot be suppressed.
Facing these mourning Fierce Ghosts is like facing the Ghostly Servant itself; once you suppress them, they instantly Restart within the spirit hall.
Jiang Shangbai looked at the Straw Rope with some surprise, rushed forward, and stomped it onto the Ground with a foot.
He had never encountered a Straw Rope before; all he had faced were Supernatural phenomena employed by the Red and White Double Evil, so he was quite astonished.
Noticing Jiang Shangbai's expression, Su Fan quickly typed a message on his phone, informing him about the Ghostly Servant and the Red and White Double Evil fighting over the Fierce Ghosts inside Ghost Tamers.
Hearing that, Jiang Shangbai furrowed his brows.
If we follow that reasoning, wouldn't our team with Su Fan simultaneously draw the Red and White Double Evil's attention? Su Fan seemed to have realized this, and he looked at Jiang Shangbai.
"You aren't being specifically targeted by the Red and White Double Evil, are you?" Su Fan typed.
Jiang Shangbai remained silent and nodded.
Seeing this, Su Fan without hesitation walked alone toward the distance.
Jiang Shangbai watched the scene, feeling helpless yet also sighing in relief.
Facing the Red and White Double Evil, he was already close to a Fierce Ghost revival; if he also had to endure an attack from the Ghostly Servant, he would have no way to cope.
However, Jiang Shangbai's sense of ease did not last long.
Because soon, an eerie figure appeared before him.
"Zhong Shan?" Jiang Shangbai hesitated.
He recalled that Zhong Shan was killed at the very moment the spirit hall went out of control.
Sure enough, as Zhong Shan approached, Jiang Shangbai quickly saw the tear‑streaked face.
"Ah!"
Suddenly, eerie flames ignited from Jiang Shangbai's shoulders upward, and he let out a wail.
His shoulders were protected by a Ghost Longevity Garment, but his head was that of an ordinary person.
His head burned in the flames, nearly causing him to lose consciousness entirely.
Fortunately, Jiang Shangbai reacted quickly; a dim yellow light appeared beside him, separating the flames.
Even so, his head was already blackened to charcoal.
However, the matter was not over.
Just as Jiang Shangbai had just blocked the flames, Zhong Shan stepped beside him and kicked at his shadow.
He hadn't kicked Jiang Shangbai himself, yet Jiang Shangbai instinctively felt a strong sense of danger.
"I'll die!" the thought flashed almost subconsciously in Jiang Shangbai's mind.
Without hesitation, Jiang Shangbai immediately lifted his leg and kicked at Zhong Shan.
The kick sent Zhong Shan flying five meters, landing on the Ground, unable to get up.
Similarly, after delivering that kick, Jiang Shangbai himself crouched on the Ground in pain.
He—his Fierce Ghost revived.
Although it did not actually take his life, the revival of the Ghost Foot caused him to lose control of his body for a short time. This bone‑deep, extreme pain cannot be resisted merely by strong will; it is the Fierce Ghost's erosion of the body, beyond any living person's will.
The revived Ghost Foot continuously twisted Jiang Shangbai's body; although his upper body remained on the Ground, his legs moved erratically on their own.
"Damn!"
In desperation, sensing Certain Death, Jiang Shangbai had no intention of holding back, nearly unleashing the Ghost Foot's supernatural force, which caused the Fierce Ghost to revive.
Now he could only watch the fallen Zhong Shan with inner terror; he could not move, his internal Balance shattered, unable even to use Ghost Domain.
He could only hope that the revived Fierce Ghost within Zhong Shan would have a lower Terror Level, and wouldn't awaken so quickly after being kicked.
However, the more he worried about something, the more it tended to appear.
After Jiang Shangbai's hesitant prayers for ten minutes, in his terrified gaze, Zhong Shan's corpse finally moved.
He first twitched on the Ground several times, then, in an extremely eerie, completely unscientific manner, stood up out of nowhere.
"Are you about to die?"
Jiang Shangbai forced a bitter smile; after a day of chasing geese, he was finally blinded by a goose's peck.
Usually he looked down on City Responsible Persons outside Dajing City, but he didn't expect that the thing sending him off wasn't a terrifying Supernatural Incident source, but a revived Fierce Ghost of a City Responsible Person.
Listening to the Footsteps of Zhong Shan as he slowly moved toward him after standing, Jiang Shangbai despairingly closed his eyes.
"Hm? I'm not dead? Zhong Shan didn't attack me?"
After waiting for a long time, until the Footsteps ceased, Jiang Shangbai opened his eyes with some puzzlement.
"What are you still standing there doing?"
A cold, indifferent voice sounded, catching Jiang Shangbai's attention.
He looked up toward the direction of the voice, and at that moment his face brightened with joy.
The dark sky, at some unknown moment, was torn apart; a cold, fetid gale ripped a slit through the darkness, letting sunlight pour down and illuminate Jiang Shangbai's face.
The dazzling sunlight at that moment seemed like newly born hope, rekindling Jiang Shangbai's desire for survival after his heart had sunk to the abyss.
"Director Fang!"
Jiang Shangbai stared at the vague silhouette reflected in the sunlight, murmuring.
Although the figure in the wind looked eerie, and the gale carried the rotting stench of corpses, at that moment Jiang Shangbai found it all incredibly beautiful.
"Has the Fierce Ghost revived?"
Fang Shiming looked at Jiang Shangbai, noticed his constantly contorting, uncontrollably flailing feet, and frowned.
Based on the Fierce Ghosts he assigned to Jiang Shangbai, even an A-Class Paranormal Event, unless one foolishly forces a hard clash with the source of the Supernatural Incident, cannot retain Jiang Shangbai.
But considering this is within the Ghostly Servant's Ghost Domain of an S-Class Supernatural Incident.
Add a Supernatural Incident called Red and White Double Evil, which is defined as A-Class but in fact is Quasi-S-Class, and given time can at any moment evolve into an S-Class incident; then he can understand why Jiang Shangbai acted this way.
Being able to hold out in these two Supernatural Incidents until Fang Shiming came to rescue, Jiang Shangbai is already quite commendable.
Hoo!
At that moment, Fang Shiming's head and shoulders were suddenly set ablaze.
Seeing this, Fang Shiming's face turned cold, and the howling wind scattered the flames on Jiang Shangbai's head.
At the same time, his figure flashed and landed on the ground.
Suddenly, a strange human silhouette appeared on Zhong Shan, stepped on its shoulder, and knocked it completely to the ground, rendering it immobile.
