Chapter 112: Paying a Visit
Another mist‑shrouded morning, Lei Kedun walked to the second‑floor balcony and glanced at the house opposite, which was already occupied.
"We haven't introduced ourselves before! It's time for a proper introduction!"
Lei Kedun muttered to himself.
He then turned back to his room, put on his coat, and prepared to leave.
"Boss, you're heading out again!"
Tu Ba Ge, already up, handed over a few pieces of fruit.
"Hmm, going to visit the new neighbors across the street."
Lei Kedun took the fruit from Tu Ba Ge and began eating it outright.
Because he's too lazy to go out for breakfast, he has Tu Ba Ge prepare fresh fruit each morning as his meal.
"Neighbors? I'm coming too!"
Tu Ba Ge turned, retrieved a book from the tall black top‑hat set aside, put the hat back on, and adjusted his appearance before the mirror.
Then he went to the potted plant beside the sofa, plucked a few fresh fruits, and cradled them in his arms.
Tu Ba Ge had claimed the living‑room sofa as his own bed, moved a pot of plants to the side, and turned it into a fruit tree.
He truly achieved what he once claimed—being able to lie down and eat freshly picked fruit.
Lei Kedun, still gnawing the fruit, led Tu Ba Ge out to visit the neighbors across the street.
"Dong~ dong~"
The knocking began; though puzzled about who could be at the door at this hour, Ke Lai En set down the half‑eaten buttered toast, stood up, and walked to the doorway.
Just as his hand touched the doorknob, two silhouettes—one large, one small—flashed in his mind.
A blond teenager with glasses perched on his nose, looking about eighteen or nineteen, wore a light‑brown long coat unlike the style common in Lu En here.
At his feet stood a rabbit wearing a tall black top‑hat, a little vest and shoes, and a red bow tie around its neck.
"A Er Tai En Si? What does he want?"
Ke Lai En recognized the teenager standing outside the door.
He opened the main door with some hesitation, meeting the two pairs of eyes—large and small—staring at him, and Ke Lai En felt inexplicably awkward.
Ke Lai En cleared his throat lightly and said:
"Cough! You came looking for me? Is there something?"
"Here to visit the newly moved‑in neighbors!"
"Neighbors? Do you also live here?"
Ke Lai En stared in surprise at Lei Kedun standing in the doorway, and blurted out in disbelief.
"Won't you invite me in for a seat?"
Lei Kedun glanced toward the room behind Ke Lai En and said.
"Ah? Hmm, please come in!"
Ke Lai En turned his body sideways and made a beckoning gesture.
As Lei Kedun stepped into the living room, he began to explain:
"I knew you would move here, so I came early; you could say I foresaw your next move in advance."
"Foresight?"
Ke Lai En hummed thoughtfully, then his attention was drawn to Tu Ba Ge standing at his feet, raising a hand toward him.
Tu Ba Ge handed the fruit he held forward to Ke Lai En:
"A gift!"
Ke Lai En looked at the gentleman‑dressed, talking rabbit in surprise:
"Is it for me?"
"Yes!" Tu Ba Ge nodded in response.
"Take it, these are fruits it grew itself, quite fresh! This is the rabbit I raise; it's my experimental and domestic assistant, and sometimes helps me spar."
Lei Kedun, already feeling at ease, sat down on the living‑room sofa.
Ke Lai En took the fruit Tu Ba Ge offered, and under the rabbit's wide‑eyed stare, lifted one to his mouth and took a bite:
"Ka!"
"Hmm, the taste is pretty good!"
Ke Lai En exclaimed in admiration.
Tu Ba Ge nodded satisfactorily, then hopped over to sit beside Lei Kedun.
"Won't you wash it before eating? It was just plucked from the tree."
Seeing this, Lei Kedun bit the fruit Tu Ba Ge handed him and couldn't help reminding him.
Ke Lai En silently placed the fruit, already bitten, onto the nearby dining table:
"For things like this, you could tell me in advance next time!"
"Actually it's fine; the rabbit and crows at my place eat them straight, it's just an unwashed fruit, and for a non‑ordinary being it doesn't matter."
Lei Kedun gave an awkward explanation.
Ke Lai En expressionlessly nodded, fell silent briefly, then spoke:
"Do you also have a foresight about Ting Gen's matter?"
"I know a bit. Are you asking why I only arrived after the incident ended?"
Lei Kedun wasn't surprised Ke Lai En would ask that, and had already thought of his answer.
"This matter involves some great beings. Hmm. You should know 0‑08; it is a seal that evolved from the extraordinary trait of the audience's path, sequence one, and its emergence will inevitably attract that being's attention."
"Earlier I stole a drop of eternal blazing‑sun divine blood from Morse Church, and it was likely discovered by the Goddess of the Night."
This triggered a chain reaction, forcing me to leave Tinggen, and I only hurried over after receiving Lun Na De's rescue letter.
Lei Ke Dun told the other party everything that didn't need to be concealed, except that this incident also involved the will of the Night Goddess.
Ke Lai En listened to Lei Ke Dun's answer, eyes wide open; if it weren't for his own intuition telling him the other side wasn't lying, he would even think it was just a casually made excuse.
Whether it's the Sequence One mentioned by the other side or that being, he is very curious.
But the other side clearly treated him as a follower of Mr. Fool, and to preserve his own and Mr. Fool's image, Ke Lai En couldn't ask directly, so he changed the question:
"How do you know about the Eternal Blazing Sun's divine blood? Is it a prophecy? Also, do you know Lun Na De?"
Lei Ke Dun subconsciously reached to touch his nose, then replied:
"From what you know, huh? Didn't you also use that mutated Sun Holy Emblem to craft two talismans at the time? I met Lun Na De while stealing the divine blood, and only with his help could I successfully obtain that drop of divine blood."
This answer left Ke Lai En silent for a moment; he felt that the other side had a chance to steal the Eternal Blazing Sun's divine blood, and he himself also bore some responsibility.
"Doing this in the goddess's temple is indeed very bold!"
In the end, Ke Lai En only managed to say this somewhat wistful line.
"And then I was driven out of Tinggen!"
Lei Ke Dun spread his hands, a helpless expression on his face.
"The goddess not directly delivering divine punishment is already her mercy toward you!"
Ke Lai En looked at the other's unrepentant expression and muttered a scornful remark in his heart.
Lei Ke Dun paid no mind to Ke Lai En's opinion of him, casually took two Sun Domain talismans from his coat pocket and tossed them to the other side:
"Two Sun Domain talismans, corresponding respectively to the extraordinary abilities Light Fire and Purification Slash; the activation incantation is 'Sun', considered payment for you leading me to discover that drop of Eternal Blazing Sun divine blood."
Ke Lai En took the talismans, examined them in his hand, then slipped them into his coat pocket. Since those two Sunflame talismans were used up, he had lacked effective offensive means, so these two talismans arrived at a perfect time.
"Thank you!" Ke Lai En said sincerely.
"You're welcome; after all, your sequence isn't high, and you encounter a bit of everything!"
Lei Ke Dun let out a sigh.
Ke Lai En pretended not to hear that, and instead asked:
"Do you know any relatively easy ways to make money?"
"Rob a bank? Or murder and loot?"
Lei Ke Dun subconsciously replied just that.
Ke Lai En stared at Lei Ke Dun, convinced the guy was a dangerous individual; no wonder the Morse Ascetic Society is regarded by the Righteous Divine Church as a cult.
"Aside from such illegal and disciplinary offenses," Ke Lai En added.
"Just kidding, I usually would go out to sea to hunt down some bounty‑listed pirates; they can provide traits and also fetch a handsome reward from the authorities."
Lei Ke Dun described his practice during his time at sea, which would also be Ke Lai En's approach after setting sail. He then added:
"In the city, a few days ago I borrowed some money from gang members in the East District, but whether you can borrow, I don't know."
Ke Lai En let out a speechless sigh:
"No wonder your Morse Ascetic Society is recognized by all major Righteous Divine Churches as a cult."
Only then did Lei Ke Dun realize he had never introduced his identity to Ke Lai En, and he smoothly said:
"I'm not close with the Morse Ascetic Society; strictly speaking there's even some hatred. My identity is that of a formal member of the Knowledge Church!"
"If you're short of money, you can borrow from me, of course, with interest!"
"Knowledge Church? Aren't you a follower of the Hidden Sage?"
Ke Lai En widened his eyes, staring at the guy before him.
"Take two jobs, get two salaries! I even moonlighted as a pirate at sea in the first half of the year!"
Lei Ke Dun said indifferently.
At this moment, Ke Lai En could only think of one appraisal in his mind: "Senior double‑dealer!"
"I'll just figure out a way to earn money myself; I'm worried your interest would exceed the principal."
After hesitating, Ke Lai En still declined the other's offer to lend him money. The three hundred gold pounds in his anonymous account were enough for a while.
After chatting with Ke Lai En for a while, Lei Ke Dun took his leave from the house, returned to the building opposite the street, took off Tu Ba Ge's hat, and prepared to study the apprentice path's Open Door ability, creating his own secret technique.
Ke Lai En picked up his meal and sat down with the half‑eaten butter toast, continuing his simple breakfast.
"Someone from the Knowledge Church, also a follower of the Hidden Sage, and moonlighting as a pirate at sea—how many identities does this guy actually have?"
Ke Lai En pondered Lei Ke Dun's words and instinctively felt the other side hadn't disclosed everything to him.
"People who leave sentences unfinished are really annoying!"
"Sigh, I hope at this afternoon's gathering I can, as Mr. Fool, learn more information from him."
After finishing breakfast, Ke Lai En began hustling through the city, advertising his detective agency and procuring various occult materials.
Lei Ke Dun, meanwhile, stayed at home studying that Great Magician's hat and its accompanying tricks; he had already deciphered those, but made no progress on the 'Open Door' ability.
"As the core ability of the Gate Path, even the initial stage is this troublesome! How will I later study Travelers and Mystics!"
Lei Ke Dun reclined in the armchair, helplessly tugging his hair, even contemplating asking Mr. Huang for help to shatter the hat into extraordinary attributes.
