Chapter 115: Short-tailed Cat
Lei Kedun went out to gather the materials needed for the Gravekeeper's Magic Potion; fortunately, only ordinary materials were missing, and they were easy to buy.
Lei Kedun followed Xi Ya's potion formula and quickly prepared a bottle of thick, light-green liquid.
Lei Kedun looked at the potion in his hand and sighed:
"This potion is really becoming more and more like poison!"
He called over the crow that had been following Tu Ba Ge as a tool bird, handed over the potion in his hand, and asked again:
"This is the Sequence Eight Gravekeeper's Magic Potion; are you sure you've digested your Sequence Nine potion?"
"I've digested it; I digested it as soon as I drank it."
The crow fluttered its wings, its eyes fixed tightly on the potion in Lei Kedun's hand.
Lei Kedun nodded, then simulated the water domain's magical ability, controlling the potion to pour into the crow's mouth.
With the previous experience, this crow was no longer afraid; it directly tilted its head back and caught every drop of the potion.
Afterwards, the crow stood there dazed, as if losing consciousness; aside from the feathers on its tail growing longer, there was no other change, as if it had not been affected by the potion at all.
But under the gaze of the Eye of Secrets, Lei Kedun clearly saw the crow's body becoming stronger.
After about three to five minutes, the crow's gaze returned to normal, but the feathers on its tail had not fully changed back to their original length; they were about a third longer than before.
"Boss, I seem to have seen a huge bird; no matter how I raise my head, I can only see its feathers." the crow said doubtfully.
"Huh? Anything else?"
Lei Kedun was somewhat doubtful; this shouldn't be a normal promotion phenomenon.
The crow shook its head: "Nothing more."
Lei Kedun took off his glasses, carefully used the Eye of Secrets to examine the crow before him. He saw no abnormality; the only change was probably that the feathers on its tail had grown a bit longer.
Lei Kedun put his glasses back on and continued to ask:
"Does your Gravekeeper's Magic Potion show any signs of digestion?"
"No, not at all."
The crow shook its head.
"Well, you should first familiarize yourself with your extraordinary abilities."
Lei Kedun did not continue asking further.
After the crow left, Lei Kedun summoned his messenger and had it deliver a blank sheet of paper to Xi Ya; he also tore a blank sheet from a book for himself.
After waiting a moment, a line of text appeared on the blank paper before Lei Kedun:
"What's up? Have you already fed your crow the Gravekeeper's Magic Potion?"
Lei Kedun quickly picked up a pen from the side and wrote down his crow's question on the paper:
"It has taken the Gravekeeper's Magic Potion, but this time it hasn't digested it at all; moreover, when it was promoting, it saw a huge bird, though it didn't see the bird's full appearance, and after promotion the feathers on its tail grew a bit."
In a manor on the Southern Continent, Xi Ya frowned at the paper's content, then after a while wrote:
"I understand; I'll help you look into this matter and let you know once I have an answer."
"Didn't you say before that ordinary people can also become Spirit Realm Arcanists? Is there a mature system? If so, I can help you promote it!"
Lei Kedun didn't expect Xi Ya to suddenly bring the topic to Spirit Realm Arcanists, so he could only write:
"I'll go ask and let you know once I find out!"
Xi Ya's reply came quickly:
"Sure, let's chat later; Sis has to go out."
"By the way, when you have time, practice your handwriting; it's horribly ugly."
Lei Kedun silently looked at his handwriting on the blank paper, compared it with Xi Ya's writing, then tossed the paper on the desk into the air, sending it into the Spirit Realm.
"Indeed, I should practice my handwriting." Lei Kedun muttered.
Thinking about Xi Ya's question just now, Lei Kedun suddenly wanted to test whether there would be an animal avatar of Mr. Huang in Beiklande.
Thinking it, he did it; Lei Kedun immediately recited the honorific name of Mr. Huang in full:
"The kin of knowledge and wisdom, the ancient guardian, the eye that perceives the world, the wise one seated upon the sky, the protector of reason and knowledge."
After finishing the honorific name, nothing happened around him; Lei Kedun then waited a while in the study.
A blue-gray short-tailed cat suddenly jumped in through the window, and Lei Kedun and the cat stared at each other for a moment.
"Are you Mr. Huang's avatar in Beiklande?"
Lei Kedun's Eye of Secrets detected nothing special, so he ventured a tentative question:
"You came to me just to confirm this?"
The short-tailed cat said in an impatient tone:
"Your temperament is not quite like that crow's."
Lei Kedun didn't mind the tone and instead said curiously:
The short-tailed cat sitting on the ground revealed a disdainful look:
"I'm not an angel of the wrong path; I can't have one person integrate all their avatars, so I only leave such an avatar in a few important places."
"They normally act on their own will; only when there are important matters do I invest part of my consciousness into the avatar to synchronize information, but the avatar's own personality and habits do not change because of that."
"Like now?" Lei Kedun asked curiously.
"Yes, this cat's current state counts as part of me."
"What do you need from me?"
Lei Kedun felt the short-tailed cat's tone growing more impatient, so he dropped the topic and said instead:
"Is the Spirit Realm Arcanist system now open to ordinary people?"
The short-tailed cat changed its sitting posture and also licked its paw:
"Yes, but the ceiling is still low, roughly equivalent to the level between Sequence Nine and Sequence Eight; with the power of the Spirit Realm, one can use simple divination and some trick-level magical abilities."
"And it requires a potion to cooperate, in order to stabilize one's own mental state and increase the body's adaptability to spiritual‑realm forces."
Leikèdùn was not surprised by this; a brand‑new system does not appear so easily, and the current progress is already rapid.
"When it comes to potions, the Earth Church is more proficient, right? Can't we seek their help?"
Mentioning potions, Leikèdùn's first thought was the Apothecary Path; as the Earth Mother Goddess Lilith, she should have the greatest say on this matter.
"Who do you think fought in the original Oath‑Breaking War?"
The short‑tailed cat's tone was especially disdainful; Leikèdùn even felt it might leap up and swipe at him.
Leikèdùn fell silent; could he claim to have forgotten this history? Of course not, lest a historical test await him.
"Although the two churches harbor hatred, those two deities probably wouldn't mind, would they?"
"Do not presumptively guess the deities' thoughts!"
The short‑tailed cat solemnly warned Leikèdùn.
Leikèdùn had no choice but to change his line of thought and speak again:
"Then could we approach the Blood Clan? They belong to the Apothecary Path, and the Blood Clan Baron is also called the Demon Medicine Professor; they should have extensive research on potions."
"Not yet!"
The short‑tailed cat did not explicitly reject the suggestion.
"Do not use this honored name in Beikelaide; this is the place of that tyrant who thinks with limbs rather than brain and of the night. If discovered, my lingering duplicate here could ultimately become a Divine War."
After warning Leikèdùn, the short‑tailed cat turned and leapt out of the window, leaving.
Leikèdùn still had many questions to ask, but the other party gave no chance and simply turned and left.
"It seems its appearance was solely to prevent me from reciting this honored name in Beikelaide. Is there something wrong with this name? It's merely an angel of the Knowledge God; it shouldn't trigger a Divine War!"
Leikèdùn was somewhat puzzled, but the short‑tailed cat had already left.
Leikèdùn rose from the armchair, preparing to go out and purchase a batch of materials.
There were still several copies of the remaining extraordinary traits; Leikèdùn wanted to see if he could harness them to craft special items with extraordinary abilities.
As the Adjacent Path of the Generalist, Leikèdùn thought that the Path of the Secretive Observer of Mysterious Side Knowledge should also be able to produce some special wondrous items.
This inspiration came to Leikèdùn from Luosi Er, who used the ability "granting concrete power to abstract knowledge" to forge a Blasphemous Card; although he lacks the Knowledge Emperor's power, he can pray to the Hidden Sage.
"If combined with the Mystic Reappearance ability, unexpected gains should follow; unfortunately, I cannot yet ascend to Sequence Four."
Leikèdùn sighed, becoming even more eager for Sequence Four. He has coveted the Mystic Scholar's ability for a long time.
