Chapter 121: Commissioned Mission
Lei Kedun, who has been spurned by the holy unicorn, is preparing to commission Miss Justice at this week's Tarot Society to test the unicorn's abilities.
Based on this unicorn figurine's preferences, Lei Kedun believes that among the known people who can use this figurine, only Miss Justice of the Tarot Society and Xiao Taiyang can.
Monday afternoon arrived quickly, and Lei Kedun was already seated in a high‑backed chair in his study, waiting for the Tarot Society to begin.
A sudden surge of illusory, deep‑red light like a tide flooded his vision. When he came to his senses, he found himself inside a palace resembling an ancient giant's dwelling above the gray mist.
Miss Justice, who has already advanced to Sequence Eight, cheerfully rose and lifted her skirt to greet everyone:
"Good afternoon, Mr. Fool~"
"Good afternoon, Mr. Bai Ta!"
The Hanged Man A'erjie, facing the Fool seated at the head of the bronze long table, manifested a new six‑page Roselle diary.
Ke Lai En, shrouded entirely in gray mist, moved the six‑page diary materialized by the Hanged Man to in front of himself.
When the Hanged Man manifested the diary, Lei Kedun glanced at it and, thanks to his decent reading and memory abilities, skimmed the diary's contents.
This diary concerned the Sequence Two Miracle Master, the Fate Path's Mercury Snake, and the Black Emperor Path.
"It's a rather substantial gain."
Lei Kedun silently sighed for the Fool.
After reading the diary provided by the Hanged Man, Ke Lai En, in the name of a task for his own devotee, issued a mission:
"I have a devotee who arrived in Beikeland; he wishes to accomplish something, but his identity cannot be revealed."
"His task is to assassinate the Indis Republic's ambassador to the Luen Kingdom, Beikelong Jean Ma Dan."
"Assassinate the Indis ambassador?" Miss Justice exclaimed in surprise.
The Hanged Man and Xiao Taiyang sat on their seats, one pensive, the other bewildered.
Shrouded in gray mist, Ke Lai En glanced around the group without leaving a trace; aside from Bai Ta, who already knew most of the background, everyone else was lost in thought.
Then, maintaining the same relaxed demeanor as before, he spoke again:
"Who among you wants to take this mission? What reward do you seek?"
Seeing no one speak, the Hanged Man spoke first, exposing Beikelong as the intelligence chief and revealing his covert support of bloody protests and rumor‑spreading, deeds hidden from the light.
Noticing that Miss Justice opposite him seemed unsettled, he added:
"I'm not sure whether he is an extraordinary being, but it's very possible, and he is not lacking extraordinary protection around him."
After pondering for a while, Miss Justice, somewhat swayed by the Hanged Man, turned to the Fool at the head and said:
"Mr. Fool, I can attempt this mission, but I can't guarantee success."
"I can also accept this mission; I should be able to guarantee success, price 11,000 gold pounds."
Lei Kedun, watching from the side, interjected, hoping to prevent Miss Justice from securing the commission, lest he earn nothing.
Ke Lai En, seated at the head, twitched his mouth slightly under the gray mist, speechless at Mr. Bai Ta's price hike:
"That guy even raised the price! Swindler!"
"Beikelong possesses Sequence Six power, and he is surrounded by extraordinary protection; to successfully assassinate him and walk away unscathed, no large organization or strong force could fail to do it."
Lei Kedun offered an explanation, showing his price increase wasn't unreasonable.
"Sequence Six?" Miss Justice and the Hanged Man both whispered repeatably.
Seated at the head, Ke Lai En, under the gray mist, felt a hidden alarm; he knew the ambassador was certainly surrounded by powerful extraordinary beings, but didn't expect the ambassador himself to be a powerful extraordinary being.
"Hunter Path, Sequence Six Conspirator, possesses keen insight into detailed matters and excels at plotting conspiracies."
Lei Kedun briefed the Tarot Society members on conspirators, then continued:
"Such extraordinary beings who rely on their own intellect are often harder to kill, because they are cautious and adept at using their wits."
"Mr. Bai Ta, are you sure you can guarantee a successful assassination of such a high‑level extraordinary being? If anything goes wrong, you yourself will be in great danger."
Miss Justice couldn't help but remind him, expressing some concern for the safety of the Tarot Society's members.
"I only need to find an opening, create a relatively isolated space, and I'll have a chance to strike a fatal blow."
"Those who rely too much on conspiracies tend to be arrogant and blindly confident; when caught, they can be killed with a single strike."
Lei Kedun briefly explained his own plan.
His original plan was to create an opportunity, then leverage the sage‑like power within himself to deliver a direct lethal strike.
Miss Justice nodded thoughtfully, offering no further questions.
As a mind‑reader, she understood that such extraordinary beings who excel mentally yet are physically fragile are indeed vulnerable to a single fatal blow when caught.
"You all may take this mission; whoever completes it gets it."
Ke Lai En, still shrouded in gray mist, spoke again.
Although he also thought that having the strongest, Mr. Bai Ta, complete the mission would be safest, the price was too steep. He could only hope Miss Justice or the Hanged Man could finish it, so that at least he could substitute knowledge for gold pounds.
"Alright, Mr. Fool," Miss Justice and the Hanged Man said simultaneously.
Under the gray mist, Ke Lai En said in a relaxed tone:
"What reward do you wish to receive?"
"The psychiatrist's demonic potion formula."
Miss Justice blurted out, then hesitantly added:
"My reward can be discussed after the mission is completed; I—I still owe your devotee a bounty."
"Same here; the reward can be discussed after the mission is finished."
The Hanged Man also spoke.
After Miss Justice mentioned the bounty, Ke Lai En immediately thought of the "Storm General" Qilin Ges, who was killed by Mr. A Zi Ke.
"The Storm General is worth 10,000 gold pounds; Ambassador Beikelong must be pricier, so A'Er's price is actually reasonable, and he even calls it a friendship price!"
After pondering, Ke Lai En realized that his belief A'Er's price was too high stemmed from his own poverty.
"However, if Miss Justice gave me that bounty, it would be enough to cover Beikelong's price."
But, part of this bounty belongs to Mr. Azike.
Kelaisen hesitated in his heart, wondering whether to first divert part of the bounty belonging to Mr. Azike.
Apart from the little sun in the godforsaken land, after everyone accepted Mr. Fool's commission, the Tarot Club entered the free trading session.
Miss Justice proposed to the little sun sitting diagonally opposite her a request to exchange dragon intelligence.
"Sure, I want to obtain the Sequence Eight potion formula of the Singer pathway."
The little sun did not refuse Miss Justice's trade; what he urgently needs now is advancement, so he proposed the condition of exchanging the potion formula of the next sequence.
Miss Justice pondered and said:
"I don't have the Singer pathway's Sequence Eight potion formula, but I can promise to collect it for you as soon as possible, and I can ask Mr. Fool to be a witness."
Leikdun had been thinking about selling the potion formula of the Sunlight people, but the highest-ranking Mr. Fool spoke first:
"Miss Justice, perhaps I can pay for the Sunlight people's potion formula on your behalf."
"I forgot that this guy Kelaisen had divined that drop of eternal blazing sun's divine blood; it seems he has the formulas for sequences below four."
"We can't earn the extraordinary materials from the little sun's side anymore; looks like we need to think of another way."
Leikdun sat quietly on the side, lost in thought.
Miss Justice, the little sun, and Fool Kelaisen quickly reached a deal and requested a private conversation.
Only Leikdun and the Hanged Man beside him were left isolated outside.
Leikdun turned his head to look at the solemn-looking Hanged Man beside him and said:
"Mr. Hanged Man, aren't you interested in the news about the dragon?"
The Hanged Man glanced at the obviously high-sequence Baita sitting beside him and murmured:
"There is some interest, but it hasn't reached the point of paying compensation for this."
"Aren't you the same?"
"No, I'm quite interested, but Mr. Sun knows that information, which should all be what I already know."
Leikdun shook his head, rejecting the Hanged Man's counter-question, and then spoke again:
"This Mr. Sun doesn't look like a Fusake person, but his giant bloodline is not low either, quite interesting."
"Moreover, I've noticed he lacks understanding of much common knowledge, yet he knows information about this dragon species that most people don't."
In the Hanged Man's gradually solemn expression, Leikdun spoke his final conclusion:
"He probably isn't from the known South or North Continent; could he be from the legendary godforsaken land? Or the West Continent?"
The Hanged Man looked somewhat surprised at the usually carefree Baita; the other's earlier reasoning made him reasonably suspect that the other's usual demeanor was just a disguise.
The communication between the two fell silent for a few seconds before the Hanged Man spoke:
"It is the godforsaken land; what is the West Continent you speak of?"
"I don't know; in the elves' legend, that place is their homeland, but the elves themselves don't know whether that homeland truly exists."
Leikdun shook his head and did not tell the Hanged Man the true situation.
