Chapter 126: Battle on Mingsike Jie

~8 min read 1,564 words

Mingsike Jie No. 15, a sheriff in a black‑and‑white checkered uniform knocked on the door of the Kelei En household.

When the door was opened, he removed his hat and, with a solemn face, said to those inside:

"My superiors sent me to tell you to stay safe tonight and tomorrow, and beware of strangers."

"Understood."

Inside the gate, Kelei En answered solemnly.

In the room, Tu Ba Ge sat on the second‑floor stairs, fiddling with the talisman Lei Kedun had stuffed into him; the sound from the living room piqued his curiosity, so he walked down a few steps and sat where he could see the living room.

He quietly watched Kelei En talk with the outsider at the gate, until a ghost stepped out of the glass window, and Tu Ba Ge felt frightened enough to want to run back to the second floor.

But the next moment, a flame rose behind the police officer, and the transparent ghost was burned to ash.

The scene made Tu Ba Ge notice something amiss; he thought the boss's friend Kelei En suddenly became sluggish, like a rusted puppet.

The ghost that emerged from the glass suddenly possessed the police officer.

"Sun," Tu Ba Ge pinched two golden‑thin talismans and uttered a Dragon Speech.

The talismans instantly turned to ash, and a bright, holy, pure, warm light descending from the heavens fell upon Kelei En and the officer opposite him.

A ripple imbued with a purifying aura, centered on Tu Ba Ge, rapidly expanded outward.

Kelei En felt the stagnant sensation in his body lessen a bit, allowing faster reactions.

"Filth!"

Kelei En raspily chanted an ancient Hermes word.

Noisy, illusory, evil babble spread instantly from Kelei En; opposite him, Luo Sa Ge's expression grew dazed, his whole face beginning to swell.

A maddening babble rang in Tu Ba Ge's ears, more unbearable than the hidden sage imparting knowledge. Still wanting to use another talisman, Tu Ba Ge fell straight onto the stairs, his fur wildly flaring.

After throwing that talisman, Luo Sa Ge, his primary target, rolled to the ground the next instant, twisting and struggling as his skin continuously tore.

Having developed some resistance to the True Creator's babble, Kelei En struggled to his feet, drew his carried revolver, and fired repeatedly at the now blood‑splattered Luo Sa Ge until the magazine was empty.

Luo Sa Ge's head exploded, red and white spraying the ground.

Seeing Luo Sa Ge completely dead, Kelei En finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Crimson!" he whispered an ancient Hermes phrase, then flung a sleep talisman, causing the female bodyguard, also affected by the True Creator's babble, to fall into slumber.

He then returned to the stairs, picked up a talisman that had fallen near Tu Ba Ge, and whispered, "Sun!"

The holy light with purifying power descended, dispelling most of the True Creator's lingering influence from himself and Tu Ba Ge.

Freed from the influence, Tu Ba Ge lay on the stairs, staring with red eyes, unwilling to move.

Kelei En bent down, patted Tu Ba Ge's head, and whispered:

"It's safe now; you can rest peacefully."

After soothing the apparently frightened Tu Ba Ge, Kelei En quickly took out a candle and set up a ritual; he intended to perform a séance while Luo Sa Ge's spirit had not yet dissipated.

Having completed the séance with Luo Sa Ge's residual spirit above the gray mist, Kelei En, lacking enough spiritual energy, was pushed by an invisible force back into the gray mist space, returning to the real world.

Just back in reality, Kelei En felt his head heavy and as if about to faint. He pinched his forehead, trying to regain some clarity.

"Here."

Tu Ba Ge handed a bright red fruit, resembling an oversized jujube, to the ailing Kelei En, who could barely straighten his back.

"Thank you!"

Kelei En took the strange fruit from Tu Ba Ge, but he had no appetite for it.

"If you eat it, you'll feel much better; it can quickly restore part of your spirit."

Seeing Kelei En holding the fruit without eating, Tu Ba Ge reminded him again.

Heeding Tu Ba Ge's words, Kelei En skeptically took a bite of the oversized jujube; a life‑filled spirit spread through him, easing his depleted spirit, and his head no longer felt so heavy.

He quickly ate the rest of the fruit, licked his slightly moist lips, and asked Tu Ba Ge curiously:

"Did you grow this fruit yourself?"

"Sequence Eight, the farmer, is called the Doctor; when I was on the Future Vessel I often treated the crew."

Tu Ba Ge lifted his chin and said proudly.

"Huh? Do the crew on the Future Vessel often get sick?"

Kelei En asked curiously; he remembered the Future Vessel was the flagship of the pirate general Star's admiral!

Tu Ba Ge shook his head, his tone a little odd, and said:

"No, it's because they often accidentally eat food made by Frank."

After saying that, Tu Ba Ge cautiously glanced around before continuing:

"But I know, that was the boss's doing; he deliberately swapped the ingredients, so the crew kept eating Frank's food."

Kelei En's complexion flickered oddly, then returned to normal.

Still wanting to ask more questions, Kelei En felt a cold wind brush his neck; the next moment, Tu Ba Ge tightly clutched his pant leg, shivering and burying his head.

Kelei En sharply turned his head and saw the female bodyguard, already awake by the glass window, but her pale golden hair and wan face seemed dimmer, more illusory.

"This rabbit is actually afraid of ghosts!" Kelei En silently thought to himself.

He then explained the recent events to the bodyguard, omitting that she had been knocked out by his sleep talisman.

The bodyguard examined Kelei En and the strange, trembling rabbit clinging to his pant leg, remained silent for a while, then said:

"You'd better see a psychologist."

"How does this rabbit hide its identity?"

Hearing the bodyguard's words, Kelei En relaxed; it seemed the bodyguard had no further issues. Yet she hadn't noticed earlier that Tu Ba Ge wasn't an ordinary animal?

"I borrowed this rabbit from a friend; it protects me, but I don't know why it's special."

Kelei En answered honestly; he truly didn't know how Tu Ba Ge's identity had been concealed from the messenger, perhaps even from Luo Sa Ge.

"Hmm."

The bodyguard miss lightly nodded, neither saying she believed nor disbelieved, and also did not raise any further questions.

"Let's quickly handle the scene; perhaps the people from Military Intelligence Bureau Nine will come over to take a look." Klein pointed at Rosago's corpse on the ground and said.

Having said that, without waiting for the bodyguard miss's reply, Klein had already put on gloves and quickly began searching for Rosago's relics.

In the end they obtained a notarized certificate and a contaminated extraordinary characteristic corresponding to the doll master. Klein and the bodyguard miss each took one item; Klein took the contaminated extraordinary characteristic.

This is the extraordinary characteristic of his pathway; as long as he finds a way to remove the contamination within the extraordinary characteristic, he will have the main ingredient for a Sequence 5 magic potion.

"Later I can ask Al about it; he should have knowledge in this area." Klein had already decided in his mind whom to consult.

Klein bent down to pick up the wholly black eye formed from condensed extraordinary characteristics; the moment his finger touched the eye, auditory hallucinations appeared in his ears and his head throbbed with sharp pain.

At the same time, his field of vision filled with countless black illusory threads, extending from the bodyguard miss, himself, and Tu Ba Ge's bodies, spreading from each part as thick as an erhu, piercing the void and stretching toward infinite distance.

Klein endured the strong discomfort, placed the wholly black eye into an iron cigarette box, and sealed it with a spiritual wall.

Afterward, the messenger miss, by means of possession, aggregated the residual tissue of Rosago's body, forming a toy whose head was covered in countless cracks, as if pieced together from numerous tiny fragments. Rosago's corpse crawled up from the ground and walked out of the house with steady steps.

Because Tu Ba Ge, out of curiosity, lifted his head to peek, he buried his head even lower, and Klein felt his pant legs were about to be torn apart by it.

Klein lifted the Tu Ba Ge that was clinging tightly to his pant legs, saw the white marks and several small holes on the pants, felt a pang of heartache—his newly bought pants, undamaged in battle, had been ruined by a rabbit.

"Alright, that miss has already left."

Klein comforted Tu Ba Ge with a sentence.

Hearing that, Tu Ba Ge struggled free from Klein's embrace, looked around the room, found that the room had returned to normal, and then put his mind at ease. Afterwards he jumped onto the sofa beside Klein and lay there like a salted fish.

Klein took out a coin from his pocket, preparing to do a divination; he was curious whether Al had killed that ambassador.

"Becklang is already dead."

After softly reciting the divination phrases several times, with a clear 'cling!' the coin in his hand sprang out.
