Chapter 283: Wheel of Fortune Card

~9 min read 1,680 words

Aboard the Golden Dream, Reckdon, having just returned to his cabin, was suddenly struck by inspiration.

A faint purple halo flashed through his eyes, catching a not-quite-clear silvery-grey figure that flickered and vanished before him.

An envelope sealed with wax was placed before Reckdon by it, dropping as that silvery-grey figure disappeared.

Reckdon reached out and caught the envelope; his intuition told him it should be the Wheel of Fortune card that Beiernadai had sent over.

He did not rush to open the envelope, keeping his gaze fixed on the spot where the messenger had just vanished, the purple halo in his eyes overlaid with a hazy film of white.

His eyes calmly stared forward, his gaze seeming to pierce through time, seeing the true form of the messenger who had just delivered his letter.

It was a strange creature that looked somewhat like a centaur, its lower body bearing six legs, its upper body like a headless man, covered in silvery-grey hair that clung tightly to the skin, giving it a metallic sheen as if plated with a layer of metal.

"Is this the true form of a Speedster? The creatures of the Spirit World really do get stranger and stranger." Muttering this to himself, Reckdon took the envelope and hurried back to his own room.

He opened the envelope with some impatience; inside, besides a folded letter, there was also a Tarot card—a Tarot card without a corresponding image of Roselle, with a line of small text in the upper left corner: "Wheel of Fortune."

"As the only Major Arcana card without a human figure, I figured Roselle would force himself to cosplay onto it."

Reckdon looked at the Wheel of Fortune card in his hand and slightly curled his lip; not getting to see Roselle's new image left him feeling somewhat disappointed.

But this was probably also why he felt at ease entrusting this Blasphemy Card to Beiernadai; if the Witch or the Moon card had a chance to collect the Witch card, this kind of good thing simply had to be put on display.

Although the Wheel of Fortune card lacked Roselle's image like the other Blasphemy Cards, its card face was extremely rich: in an azure sky hung a three-tiered Wheel of Fortune, around which were a jackal, a sword, a lion, and a serpent.

The four corners of the card each bore a winged creature, perfectly corresponding to the four symbols representing fire, water, wind, and earth on the Wheel of Fortune.

Reckdon held the Wheel of Fortune card in his right hand and lightly brushed his left hand across the card face; beside his ear, a phantom sound of shattering arose—the seal Beiernadai had placed on this card was undone by him.

Lines of ancient Fussak words surfaced on the card face, fully presenting the potion formulas and rituals of the Destiny pathway from Sequence 9 to Sequence 0.

Reckdon skipped over the potion formulas and rituals at the front, his gaze falling straight onto the final Sequence 0:

Sequence 0: Wheel of Fortune

To a certain extent, the equivalent of the incarnation of fate, able to influence the entire world, making all actions of all living beings except gods determined by oneself.

Ritual: Find the correct opportunity within the torrent of fate.

". Digitize the entire world, turning the whole world into a game of Monopoly with dice rolls?"

Reckdon suddenly thought of the Die of Probability held by the Life School; the style of that die had great potential in this regard.

He wondered whether the Demon of Knowledge, who wielded the authority of knowledge and civilization, could achieve something like digitizing the entire world. Hmm... most likely it could; the principle of that Sage's Robe was to copy information, record states, and after a certain time, reset that information; since it could copy, it could most likely also modify.

After pondering to himself, he reached out again and brushed across the surface of the Wheel of Fortune card; a faint layer of starlight suffused forth and quickly vanished, adding a new layer of seal to the Wheel of Fortune card.

Prolonged convergence effects would most likely attract high-sequence entities of this pathway; he could not guarantee that whatever was drawn in would necessarily be an entity like Urosius that bore him no ill will.

Putting away the Wheel of Fortune card, he picked up the letter from the desk beside him, unfolded it, and began reading:

The Death Announcement is recruiting crew; aside from that Undying King Agaritu, all crew members aboard the Death Announcement have perished.

I sensed the descent of the Hidden Sage, also in the direction of the White Whale Sea, not too far from the waters where the Iceberg Admiral battled the Undying King.

I saw a ship, an empty ship!

It was the Flesh Tree of the Blood Admiral!

The sea is a domain controlled by the Storm Church; try to avoid conflict with them on the sea—they hold an absolute advantage.

A Pirate King telling me the sea is a domain controlled by the Storm Church feels somewhat odd. But aside from Agaritu, everyone aboard the Death Announcement is dead? That doesn't seem right; at the time, both sides in the battle held back, and it wasn't intense to that degree.

Reckdon muttered a line and casually flicked the letter; a flame whooshed up from it, swiftly reducing the paper to ash.

Then, his figure leaning back in the chair rapidly faded and vanished, entering the Spirit World and drifting toward its depths.

Bansi Harbor, outside the Storm Church.

After Klein led Daniz and the others to rendezvous with Captain Ireland from the Storm Church, the two sides exchanged information, quickly reached an agreement, and hurried toward the White Agate.

As they neared the telegraph office, they encountered a middle-aged man carrying a lantern.

He wore a deep blue bishop's robe embroidered with the symbol of storms, head lowered, face pale, breathing somewhat ragged, footsteps slightly unsteady, appearing to be seriously injured.

"Bishop Miller?" Captain Ireland recognized the other party after a brief moment of concentration, blurting out in some surprise.

The middle-aged man raised his head, lifted the lantern in his hand, and looked toward Ireland, who had spoken:

"Are you... Ireland?"

"Yes, Bishop sir. I saw Jace dead—what exactly happened here?"

Ireland did not walk over directly, but stayed where he was and asked.

During this, Klein and Daniz inconspicuously shifted their bodies, lowering their presence before this bishop of the Storm Church.

"The wounds on him look like they were dealt by someone from the Storm Church."

Tu Ba Ge, who had been following at Klein's heels, studied the man Captain Ireland had called bishop for a moment, then suddenly spoke up.

"Hmm? It can talk... a magical animal?"

Ireland glanced in surprise at Tu Ba Ge, who had suddenly spoken, then looked toward Gehrman Sparrow.

"Mm."

Klein responded expressionlessly.

At the same time, he pulled a gold coin from his pocket and chanted a divination statement in a low voice:

"He bears malice."

Cling! The gold coin was tossed up by him and quickly fell, landing in Klein's palm.

Heads up—this indicated affirmation!

Bishop Miller stared straight at this scene; a dark red light suddenly welled up in his greyish-brown eyes.

With a whoosh~, a gale burst forth from within him, billowing out his deep blue clerical robe.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The branches of nearby street trees were snapped by the gale and sent flying into midair.

Tu Ba Ge forcefully drove the wooden branch cane in his hand into the ground, steadying his body that had nearly been blown away by the gale.

But the hat on his head was sent flying directly by the gale, and was casually caught by the retreating Klein.

Those behind it, Tang Na, Dan Dun and the others lacked this ability; they were thrown several meters away, falling to the ground, sore all over.

Only Ke Li Wei Si, whose physique was better, and his bodyguard companion merely stumbled to the ground, then rolled several times.

Captain Ai Er Lan, facing Bishop Mi Le, nimbly performed a series of retreats and rolls, dodging the oncoming wind pressure's strike.

The relatively stronger Klein and Daniz did not hard-resist, instead yielding backward, drifting like a kite, while maintaining their balance.

Pfft! Pfft! Hiss!

Thick, emerald vines covered in barbs burst from the ground, shooting straight at the wind-whipping Bishop Mi Le.

"Hmph!"

A muffled grunt escaped his nostrils, and an invisible sharp wind blade shot out, slicing all the attacking vines.

The whirlwind surrounding him, as if conscious, carried his body sideways a distance, avoiding the subsequent vine attacks.

The wind he stirred up slightly subsided, the surrounding mist blew away, revealing six hidden figures within the mist.

They all wore black cloaks, lacking heads, with fresh blood still trickling from their necks, looking as if they had just been beheaded not long ago.

Ho! Ho!

They emitted a low growl like beasts ready to pounce.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Sharp invisible wind blades sliced the air, striking at Tu Ba Ge, who held a branch and manipulated the vines.

Tu Ba Ge then kicked back sharply, turning into a blurred gray shadow, dodging all the wind blades.

In the next moment, a mad, terrifying hunger surged; everyone felt as if they were being stared at by an extremely ferocious monster that could flay and devour them at any time.

Daniz's eyes narrowed slightly; he knew that Ge Er Man·Si Pa Luo was no longer hiding himself.

Klein repeatedly used paper doll substitutes, closing the distance to Bishop Mi Le, and the human skin glove on his left hand writhed, sprouting dark gold scales.

Klein's pupils then lightened, as if something had risen, reflecting in his eyes the Bishop Mi Le in deep blue robes surging.

In the next moment, the bishop who had been releasing wind blades to chase Tu Ba Ge suddenly jerked his head back, his body freezing for an instant.
