Chapter 297: News Among Pirates
In the Spirit World, Reighton, who was approaching Bayam, the capital of the Rüst Islands, suddenly saw a vast expanse of gray fog surge into his field of vision, with deep red light rising along with it.
His eyes reflected Mr. Fool seated upon a high-backed chair; amid the surging deep red light, the image of "Steel" Maiweit being channeled condensed into view, and his dreamlike voice echoed in Reighton's mind.
Reighton stopped his forward movement and listened carefully to the results of Klein's channeling above the gray fog.
A moment later, the deep red light faded like a receding tide, and the gray fog rapidly withdrew as well.
"Silent One" Mahamud, student of Soria, an important member of the Rose Sect.
Information about the important figure mentioned by "Steel" naturally surfaced in Reighton's mind; he then gathered his thoughts and continued approaching the Spirit World region corresponding to Bayam.
Bayam, the "City of Generosity," inside an inn called "Azure Wind" in the dock district.
Daniz, wearing a thick jacket and wide-legged trousers, having disguised himself, made a detour back here.
The moment he entered the door, he saw Gehrman Sparrow leaning back in a wooden chair, eyes half-closed, seemingly lost in deep thought.
Daniz was not surprised that the other party showed no reaction to his return; after skillfully closing the door, he walked straight toward the armchair, and before he even got close, he had already started chattering:
"You'd never guess what I heard while gathering information — our Golden Dream actually defeated the Undying King Agalito and his Death Announcer! This news has gone completely crazy among the pirates."
"Damn it, if I hadn't just docked and only just learned this news — wait, 'Steel' Maiweit and the rest — Maiweit isn't like me, just arriving at port; how dare he attack me at a time like this? Isn't he afraid of the captain and that unknown powerhouse's retaliation?"
As Daniz spoke, he suddenly paused; earlier, while gathering information at the tavern, he had been utterly shocked by the clash between the Golden Dream and the Death Announcer and the fact that they had defeated the other party, and hadn't thought about "Steel" Maiweit at all — only now did it register.
Klein opened his eyes with a calm gaze, swept a glance over Daniz, and then spoke with the coldness befitting his persona:
"You can ask around for news about the Flesh Tree."
"The Flesh Tree? There's no relevant information at all for me to ask about."
Daniz paused, then continued:
"But 'Steel' and his group have been very active in Bayam lately; they seem to be looking for news about the Golden Dream and the Death Announcer."
"Bullshit! These guys are completely insane — neither that Undying King nor our captain is someone a mere Admiral of Blood can afford to provoke."
You're getting into character fast. But the relevant matters about the Flesh Tree have had their information locked down? Who did it? the Storm Church? Or the Rose Sect? It's also possible both did — the former to maintain stability at sea, the latter presumably to investigate, and to dispatch new people to replace Senior.
Seeing that Klein had no reaction to his words, Daniz slightly curled his lip and continued:
"Word is that apart from the Undying King, the entire crew of the Death Announcer died in that battle with our Golden Dream, and they're now recruiting crew members in a big way."
"If those guys from the Blood Pirate Crew want to know the specific details of the battle, they can only go ask the Undying King himself, or the crew members on our Golden Dream."
"I don't know where the captain found such a strong helper, but this also caused the bounties on everyone aboard the Golden Dream to rise significantly, especially the captain's."
When he said this, he covertly sized up Gehrman Sparrow, somewhat worried that the other party might, on a whim due to the high bounty, decide to cash him in for gold pounds.
This crazy fellow was entirely capable of doing such a thing.
The moment those grumbling words formed in his mind, he saw Gehrman Sparrow abruptly rise to his feet, facing the direction of the window behind him.
Daniz froze for a moment, then immediately pushed off with his lower back, quickly stood up from the armchair, and turned his head to look behind him.
He only felt his vision blur as a vague silhouette rapidly outlined itself and swiftly grew clear.
Bullshit! That important figure "Steel" mentioned has come to hunt me down already? I haven't even written my will yet!
Reighton, having just stepped out of the Spirit World, cast a rather curious glance at Daniz, whose expression was somewhat tragically heroic, then turned his gaze to Klein, who was disguised as Gehrman Sparrow.
After sweeping his gaze around the room, he walked straight over to Tu Ba Ge, who was sprawled on the sofa sleeping, and spoke a greeting at the same time:
"Good evening, gentlemen~"
"Good evening. Do you still need this paper figure?"
Klein maintained his current persona and asked in a flat voice, while pulling out the pale yellow paper figure from his pocket.
After fully returning to reality from his channeling above the gray fog, he had seen that Tu Ba Ge was already sprawled on the sofa asleep, so he hadn't returned it directly.
The divination results from above the gray fog earlier also made him feel he needed some things that could save his life at critical moments.
"No need, keep it. Consider it Tu Ba Ge's payment to you."
As he spoke, Reighton reached into his pocket and took out two new pale yellow paper figures, tossing them onto the black top hat Tu Ba Ge held in his arms.
He had no intention of waking the soundly sleeping Tu Ba Ge, and instead turned to look at Daniz:
"The Golden Dream will approach the Rüst Islands in the next day or two, but for safety's sake, it will keep a suitable distance. If you want to go back, you'll have to take a boat there yourself."
"Huh?" Daniz froze for a moment, then stared at Reighton with some suspicion and wariness:
"Who are you? How do you know so much about the Golden Dream's affairs?"
Reighton didn't respond to him; his gaze fell on Klein, and he said in a calm voice:
"I'm going to the Loen settlement in Bayam to find those pirates from the Blood Pirate Crew. You'd best prepare yourselves in advance."
As soon as the words fell, his figure suddenly blurred and vanished.
Daniz's eyes went wide, and he turned to look at Klein:
"Who was that guy just now? What does he want us to prepare for?"
Klein placed the pale yellow paper figure back into his pocket and said without a ripple in his voice:
"The helper you spoke of."
"Go to sleep."
"Huh? The helper?"
Daniz stared blankly, then his eyes went wide and his voice rose several degrees uncontrollably:
"That mysterious powerhouse who repelled the Undying King!"
"He's the boss that dead fat rabbit was talking about?"
Klein glanced at Daniz, who had accidentally spoken his inner thoughts aloud, and said nothing.
Daniz quickly recovered, reached up to cover his mouth, and then put on an embarrassed expression:
"Ah, haha... I accidentally bit my tongue just now, my words weren't clear — you didn't hear that clearly, right?"
"I heard it clearly."
Klein maintained Gehrman Sparrow's persona and replied coldly.
Daniz's expression stiffened, he opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say, so he shut his mouth awkwardly.
Geerman shouldn't blurt anything out, right? We can't let that fat rabbit find out, otherwise it will poison my food again and that would be terrible; I don't want to get diarrhea in the middle of a fight.
Moreover, the leader of that fat rabbit turns out to be a demigod. Shit! If I clash with it, even the captain couldn't protect me.
Thinking of that, Daniz winced, reached to cover his chest, and decisively changed the subject:
"Ahem! You just mentioned sleeping? What does that mean? Aren't we supposed to be preparing?"
"Literal meaning."
Kelei'en had no intention to explain; he maintained Geerman Sipaluo's cold demeanor and replied in an icy tone.
He then turned and went back to his own room, leaving Daniz standing there, stunned and at a loss. Shit! Does this guy die if he says two more words!
Daniz hesitated in place for a moment, then gritted his teeth and returned to his own bedroom.
Baiyam, the Lu'en settlement area, on the roof of a garden villa.
Leiketon's figure was concealed in a shadow, around him howling gale winds carried remnants of rain that struck down, sliding straight past him without a single drop touching his clothes.
A violet halo flickered in Leiketon's eyes; his gaze pierced the layers of obstruction and saw the scene beside the fireplace inside the villa.
A man wearing a boat‑shaped hat, his face gaunt and angular, slightly frowned as he looked out the window.
He was about 1.78 m tall, with a lock of black hair hanging down, half covering his dark‑green left eye, which softened his otherwise cold hardness.
The calm Sikao'er, one of Steel Maiweit's assistants and also a wizard, caught Leiketon's gaze; corresponding information flashed in his mind.
On the sofa by the fireplace, a man in his thirties, his face slightly pale, furrowed his brows and said to Sikao'er:
"What are you worried about? Him? Or Maiweit?"
Sikao'er withdrew his gaze from the window and murmured:
"The time Maiweit was supposed to stay outside has already passed; this is not normal."
