Chapter 341: Mermaid Clues
After a brief pause, Rekton restrained his breath and asked in a calm voice:
"Sure, what's your question?"
"If it seems unreasonable to me, I wouldn't mind going down into the Steam Church's underground to snatch you out and sink you into the sea."
Steam Church? The one possessing this radio receiver isn't a demon, but a special sealing object? Daniz stared dumbfounded at the radio spitting out illusory white paper, his expression gradually turning serious.
The seal is powerful; the Steam Church nearest to Baiyam lies on Toscate Island south of the Sea of White Whale, which is several thousand nautical miles from the Rosde Archipelago Sea.
The clacking sound paused briefly, and another strip of illusory white paper was expelled, its Rune script turning into blood‑stained crimson Fennypot script.
"Do not attempt to threaten the great Arrodes; if you refuse to answer, you may choose to accept punishment!"
"My question is: who did your avatar encounter tonight in the spiritual realm of Eastchester County?"
"You can see what happened in Eastchester County? Impossible. It was just now in the spirit world that you glimpsed some information."
Rekton's gaze grew heavy for a moment, then quickly steadied; he hadn't realized he was being watched by this bootlicker mirror. "Secrecy" truly is a troublesome ability.
Does the avatar's Solar Path possess such ability? Or perhaps, like the Captain, it can mimic extraordinary abilities it has witnessed; Daniz was momentarily puzzled by the Extraordinary Path where Rekton resided.
Rune's Eastchester County? What happened there? Kelei En maintained his cold, adventurer persona, refraining from voicing his curiosity, though a hint of inquiry glimmered in his eyes.
The clacking resumed, and the radio spooled out another strip of illusory white paper: "You may choose to answer this question, or you may choose to accept punishment."
Rekton ignored Arrodes's urging words, crossed his arms, and spoke in an indifferent manner:
"I wonder, do you yourself know the answer to this question?"
Clack—another strip of illusory white paper emerged: "The great Arrodes knows everything!"
"Please answer promptly, or choose to accept punishment."
Rekton raised an eyebrow slightly, and, under the curious gazes of Kelei En, Daniz, and Tu Ba Ge, began slowly:
"In the spiritual realm of Eastchester County, I encountered the returned 'Imaginary Dragon' An Ge Er Wei De, and..."
The clacking sounded again; before Rekton could utter the next name, another strip of illusory white paper was expelled, its words now a tidy silver: "Correct answer!"
"If you have any other questions, ask me later; the forthcoming time belongs to my great supreme master!"
Heh, the bootlicker Rekton inwardly scoffed, his gaze casually flicking past the expressionless Kelei En.
That's overly eager, downright shameless, Daniz's cheek twitched; he'd never seen such brazen sealing object.
"Respected master, may I continue to follow in your footsteps?"
Kelei En, upon seeing the question, relied on his clown ability to keep his mouth from twitching. This mirror truly is a bootlicker, but it licks not me, rather the source‑fortress aura on me. Maintaining a expressionless visage befitting GerMan SpAro's standard, his voice was cold, and without even nodding he said:
"That is your own choice; you may do anything."
The rapid clacking rang out, making it seem as if the typing radio were excited.
A moment later, new lines of Rune script appeared on the illusory white paper, neat and elegant: "Thank you, great master, in accordance with the Q&A game's rules, you may ask me a question; any question, and I shall speak all I know without reservation!"
Among those present, Daniz's reaction was the most pronounced; his expression stiffened, as if recalling the unpleasant encounter earlier, his complexion turning a pallid gray.
Shit! Where was your earlier momentum, your sharp questions? Why are you as cowardly as a dog," Daniz raged impotently in his mind.
Each time this mirror refreshes my understanding of it, Kelei En paused in silence before speaking:
"Where can one find mermaids?"
Clack—, the radio typed out a cheerful answer:
"East of Gargas in the Sea of White Whale, near the Divine War Ruins in the Suniya Sea, there are some mermaids, but they are all followers of the Night Goddess."
"From there, continue east into the Divine War Ruins; mermaids also dwell within, but it is extremely dangerous, though of course you surely do not mind that."
GerMan SpAro, that madman, truly would not care about the danger; indeed, such peril only excites this pervert further. Daniz's peripheral glance flicked at Kelei En, then quickly withdrew, fearing retaliation if noticed.
No, I do care—don't call me a faceless one. Even as a Rank Five Secret Companion Master, places like the Divine War Ruins I must approach with caution. Kelei En muttered silently to himself, then continued to watch Arrodes's reply.
"Both the Quiet Church at the Night Church headquarters and the Sleep Church in the Suniya Sea harbor mermaids."
"The aura on this radio is about to fade; I await the next chance to serve the great master at any moment."
As that sheet of illusory white paper was expelled, the radio ceased moving and lost its deep, murky feeling.
Except for the Divine War Ruins, mermaids elsewhere inevitably clash with the Night Church. Kelei En sighed heavily in his mind.
"The Secret Cult surely has its own channels, but they are likely hidden, even Arrodes cannot investigate them."
Rekton softly voiced his speculation.
Secret Cult? Indeed, as an organization dating back to the Fourth Era that has mastered the Diviner's Path, they surely possess the method for the ritual required to ascend to Rank Five Secret Companion Master. Either they secretly breed mermaids, or they have an alternative ritual method.
"The difficulty is no less than starting from the Night Church, perhaps even greater; I can't even locate any members of the Secret Cult."
Sigh—there is no ultimate difficulty, only greater ones, or... should I truly pray to the goddess for help? (End of chapter)
