Chapter 383: Long-Term Commission
Provide a lot? "Justice" Audrey, "Magician" Fors, "Hanged Man" A'erjie, and "Moon" Emlyn nearly simultaneously turned their heads, looking at Rekton with surprise, clearly stimulated by his words "can provide a lot."
"Hermit" Cattleya swept her gaze over Rekton opposite her, making guesses in her mind: Scroll Professor, or Machinery Specialist? Relying on a Scholar's approach to analyze Beyonder abilities, then using some magical item to craft scrolls or charms that could deploy those Beyonder abilities?
Azik looked around at everyone. His observations during this period had already given him a general assessment of the Tarot Club members: their strength was mostly not high, only at Sequence 5 or Sequence 6, some even lower, but their identities covered a wide range, making for a decent information channel.
While pondering, he imitated the gesture the Tarot Club members used when speaking, slightly raising his right hand, and chuckled: "I can also provide some similar methods, though they may be slightly more complicated to use."
Mr. Azik's method wouldn't be directly summoning his more powerful undead subordinates to fight on his behalf, would it? Klein looked at Azik, who was leaning back leisurely in the high-backed chair, and grew even more certain of his guess.
Then, he manipulated his alternate account "The World," turned his head toward Rekton, and asked: "What methods? How much? Which Beyonder abilities are included?"
Hmm, it seems Mr. "World" and Mr. "White Tower" are quite familiar with each other. Should I also purchase some of these single-use items? A psychiatrist doesn't inherently possess much direct combat capability. "Justice" Audrey lowered her head slightly and fell into thought.
Rekton rhythmically tapped the armrest beside him with the index and middle fingers of his right hand. Hearing Klein's question, he answered without hesitation:
"Scrolls. After reciting the corresponding incantation, you can directly release the ability I've sealed within them."
"As for which Beyonder abilities I can craft into scrolls, I'll make a list after the Tarot Club ends, and you can choose for yourselves."
"Due to material constraints, production time ranges from three to five days, with strength roughly between Sequence 5 and Sequence 4. Each scroll costs 100 pounds."
"Magician" Fors lowered her head, once again lamenting her poverty.
Sharing the same gesture was the newly promoted Baron "Moon" Emlyn, who had already depleted nearly all the pounds funded to him from within the Vampire clan.
One Daniz can be exchanged for 45 scrolls, and resolving him only requires using up one scroll—thinking about it that way, it's quite a good deal. Wait, why am I using Daniz as a unit of measurement? As his thoughts wandered, Klein manipulated "The World" to give a reply: "Five. My only requirement is that they possess powerful offensive capability."
"No problem." Rekton nodded readily and accepted the deal; either way, it was profitable for him.
"Justice" Audrey also raised her right hand afterward and said:
"Mr. 'White Tower,' I'd also like to purchase some scrolls, though I may need to select the scrolls' abilities."
"Fine." Rekton gave a slight nod in response.
As everyone's exchanges gradually drew to a close, Azik sat up a little straighter. He swept his gaze around at everyone, and after confirming no one else wished to speak, he slightly raised his right hand and spoke in a gentle voice:
"Everyone, I have what could be considered a long-term commission."
"What commission?" Audrey asked with great curiosity, turning her head.
Azik chose his words carefully: "Help me collect information or items related to the Death Consul of the former Balam Empire on the Southern Continent. I will provide compensation based on the value of what you offer."
"Death Consul?" Audrey asked back with some confusion. She knew the word "Consul," but prefixing it with "Death" made it seem quite extraordinary—a special title derived from one's status?
"This is the angel of the Death pathway, the name of that pathway's Sequence 2 potion, and also the title of that Consul of the Balam Empire at the time."
"Hermit" Cattleya pondered briefly, then spoke up to explain the meaning of "Death Consul" to everyone. Death Consul—investigating an angel. What exactly is this new member's identity? Whether it was Mr. "Fool's" earlier introduction or his act of investigating an angel, both indicated his identity was extraordinary. "Hanged Man" A'erjie frowned imperceptibly; he had grown increasingly curious about this new member's identity.
"I will try to collect, but that is too long ago. The information and items that have survived are already very difficult to authenticate, so I cannot guarantee they will truly be effective."
"Hermit" Cattleya answered quite conservatively, also carrying a hint of probing.
"That's fine, I can judge." Azik responded in a calm voice.
Azik's answer caused a strong thought to surge in Cattleya's heart—he is that Death Consul!
He can judge—but how? Does he recognize those things? Or does he have a special method of authentication... While pondering, "Hanged Man" A'erjie spoke up thoughtfully:
"I will try to search."
"I will also try to search for related items." Klein manipulated his alternate account "The World" to respond.
The other Tarot Club members also successively indicated they would keep an eye out, except for "Sun" Derrick, who was in the Land Abandoned by God, completely ignorant of the outside world and unable to help.
After everyone fell silent again, Rekton turned slightly and looked at Azik beside him: "I don't know much about the 'Death Consul,' only that he was roughly a cold and cruel Beyonder."
"That is due to the loss-of-control madness tendency contained within Beyonder characteristics and the influence transmitted from high up by that 'Death God.' His divinity far exceeded his humanity, far unlike how gentle he is now."
Azik did not seem too surprised by this. Though his expression grew a bit heavier, he remained composed, and his voice carried a hint of lamentation as he said: "I am deathless, not ageless. Once a person grows old, they always become gentle."
"True enough. Long years can smooth out all edges." Rekton sighed and did not continue the topic.
Me? Does this mean Mr. "Death God" is that Death Consul of the former Balam Empire, an angel of the Death pathway! I actually saw an angel with my own eyes... He appeared at the Tarot Club—did he choose to become an angel under Mr. "Fool's" command? The thoughts in Audrey's mind surged uncontrollably, and she fell into a state of extreme excitement.
Just as expected! Mr. "Fool's" condition is much better than I anticipated. His power has very likely already recovered to the angel level. "Hermit" Cattleya's gaze shifted slightly, but she buried her head even lower.
She fought to suppress the urge to turn and look at Azik. As a Mystery Pryer, she could see far more than ordinary Beyonders, and it was beyond her own control—in the presence of an angel, this was extremely dangerous.
"Hanged Man" A'erjie similarly lowered his head, not concealing the shock in his eyes—this was indeed a great figure, but far beyond what he had anticipated.
This—Mr. "Death God" is an angel! I'm actually sitting together with an angel at a gathering! The thoughts that flashed through the minds of "Moon" Emlyn, "Sun" Derrick, and "Magician" Fors were nearly identical.
This—Mr. Azik just revealed his identity just like that? At the head of the mottled long table, shrouded in gray fog, Klein was stunned for a moment, but quickly recovered.
Mr. Azik is helping me shape the image of "The Fool"—a great existence with an angel in attendance. Although "The Fool" is only a Sequence 6, "Death God" is a genuine angel.
Realizing this, Klein understood in his heart. He relaxed against the back of his chair and secretly swept his gaze over everyone. Seeing that all were immersed in their own thoughts and had momentarily forgotten to speak, he chuckled and said leisurely: "You may begin your free exchange."
