Chapter 389: Storm
The wailing wind grew increasingly fierce, the gale sweeping up silhouettes around and carrying them away from the area, while also turning into invisible shackles that hindered A Meng's steps.
A Meng glanced with amusement at the silhouettes being swept away by the gale, then tauntingly said to the tall, burly middle-aged man who was commanding the wind:
"Ha, aren't you worried that among these transferred believers there might be one of my avatars?"
"My lord's gaze watches over here; not a single time worm can leave!"
"Of course, nor can any starlight cross the gale!"
Ya En·Ka Te Man's voice was unusually calm, so calm that Lei Ke Dun felt this Storm Church cardinal might have just gone mad from anger.
His loose storm priest robe was fully stretched by his well-defined muscles, his deep blue eyes bursting with bright light, his hair like tiny worms, tendrils swaying in the gale and intertwining with the lightning falling from the sky.
Under his overwhelming pressure, the surrounding wind almost condensed into substance, tightly winding around Lei Ke Dun's body, making even lifting a finger feel difficult.
Seeing the wind completely lock onto him, Lei Ke Dun simply revealed his figure, turned his head toward A Meng not far away, and spoke with a voice full of resignation:
"We seem to have underestimated the boost that the fury state gives to the Furious Folk."
"Really?"
"I have never underestimated the anger of this group of Furious Folk; I think you've realized this as well."
"However, your plan to use them to shake me off and completely wipe out all my avatars in the Luo Si De Archipelago has failed; now we are castaways on a small boat!"
A Meng slightly raised his head, the corners of his mouth still bearing a faint smile, seemingly enjoying this stimulation; his plain voice tinged with amusement clearly reached everyone present.
Boom! A tremendous sonic boom erupted out of nowhere, mixed with the wind's wail, layer upon layer, directly engulfing the entire plaza.
A Meng and Lei Ke Dun's silhouettes became thin and fragile, turning into a crudely cut paper figure, which the violent sonic boom tore into scraps.
Lei Ke Dun and A Meng's figures flickered and floated amid the layers of air waves, occasionally turning into paper scraps, into colorful foam, into things that basically didn't exist—"Haha, your spells are quite interesting!"
A Meng's voice echoed in Lei Ke Dun's ears, sounding somewhat arrogant.
Lei Ke Dun was somewhat speechless; his spells were always stolen by A Meng at critical moments, and if it weren't for his casting ability greatly improving after advancing to Sequence Three, plus the spiritual intuition from the Prophet Master, he wouldn't even have time to cast a second spell.
"Think positively; with my help, your casting ability has undergone a qualitative leap in just a few minutes."
A Meng silently stole the distance between himself and Lei Ke Dun, instantly appearing behind Lei Ke Dun, his voice directly echoing in Lei Ke Dun's ears.
In the next instant, Lei Ke Dun's figure turned transparent, becoming a statue formed from countless gathered starlight, two thumb-sized time worms appearing on the statue's shoulders and falling directly to the ground.
The moment they landed, those two time worms turned into two faint lights and returned to A Meng's body.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Silver-white lightning snakes sprang out of nowhere, carrying a violent destructive aura as if substantial, striking thickly toward A Meng and Lei Ke Dun, enveloping the surrounding several-hundred-meter area in a thunderstorm forest.
Lei Ke Dun spread his left hand, and a milky-white die began to spin on its own, stopping before the lightning struck, six pips facing up!
Under extreme luck, the lightning striking around always avoided this small spot due to various coincidences and mishaps, not even the splashed gravel affecting this side.
A Meng's gaze fell on the Probability Die, then quickly withdrew, as if he had no intention of stealing it.
His gaze pierced through the lightning surrounding the area toward the sky, and he spoke in a flat tone:
"The angel of the Furious Folk has arrived—are you really not considering becoming my follower? I can take you away from here."
"Follower? Someone to draw fire for you? Having stolen the Sea Wave Church, the Lord of Storm would surely lock onto you directly; those stray bolts just now were probably clearing out your avatars in Bai Ya Mu, or even elsewhere in the Luo Si De Archipelago."
"The Storm's Angel and the 'Sea King' are merely blocking us, to prevent too much area from being destroyed when the storm's divine punishment descends shortly."
Lei Ke Dun chuckled lightly in response to A Meng, while gently rolling the Probability Die with his left hand, pondering whether extreme luck could let him survive the divine punishment.
"You've been holding this die in your hand precisely to gradually bring the surrounding people and objects under your control, turning this area into a world of probability?"
"But have you considered that the Furious Folk won't be affected by it, nor will their divine punishment?"
A Meng's voice carried a hint of disdain and curiosity as he said:
He also held a clump of black mist in his hand, trying to influence Lei Ke Dun's emotions to gain more information. The deep blue‑near‑purple light flowing in Lei Ke Dun's eyes flickered slightly, having lost the prophet's trait, making him less resistant to having his emotions and desires provoked.
Taking a deep breath, he slightly tilted his head and spoke in a hoarse, low voice:
"Then why have you been trying to parasitize me all this time, while also stealing my Wheel of Fortune card in my hand?"
"You should know that with the Probability Die blessing me with luck, you cannot successfully steal anything from me."
"That's not necessarily so!"
A Meng's lips always bore a faint smile; as he spoke, he reached into the inner pocket of his classic robe and pulled out a tarot card.
Lei Ke Dun's pupils contracted sharply; his intuition told him it was a card of blasphemy.
He instinctively glanced at his left hand's Probability Die; it still showed six pips up.
How could it be that he subconsciously reached with his right hand to feel for his own Wheel of Fortune card, and both touch and intuition gave him the feedback that it was truly a blasphemy card?
He narrowed his eyes, suddenly thinking of something, then turned his head to look at the tarot card in A Meng's hand with its back facing him and said, "Mistake card?"
A Meng looked at Lei Ke Dun with a playful expression and said:
"Your reaction is truly interesting; I thought you wouldn't be startled."
"This is a gift from a young occult enthusiast; relying on some descriptive text on that blasphemy card, he chanted a vague phrase that could point to the name 'Mistake,' and I answered him!"
A Meng casually tossed the Mistake card, revealing a side showing two nude male and female figures, as well as a fragment of an angel bearing pure white wings.
Lei Ke Dun slightly raised his brow, then withdrew his gaze. Having grasped the uniqueness of the Mistake, he at times and to some extent could already represent the true god of this path.
This is telling me whether he can indeed steal items from me while I'm blessed by the Probability Die, or if this is merely his deception toward me—"You can guess."
"Or, you and I play a game: if you win, I'll give you this Mistake card; if you lose, you help me steal the Traitor Dragon's church—how about that?"
A Meng smiled and proposed.
Lei Ke Dun saw no trace of panic in him, seemingly not taking the impending storm's divine punishment to heart.
Lei Ke Dun did not respond to A Meng's words; his gaze fell on the slowly turning milky-white die in his open left palm.
Whether it was his illusion or not, he felt the die's rotation becoming increasingly laborious, as if altering the probability here had become extremely difficult.
"This die is nearing its limit; these lightning bolts carry part of the Furious Folk's will, making it not so easy to modify the probability."
A Meng's voice clearly echoed in Lei Ke Dun's ears, as if responding to his words—this time the Probability Die turned to five and could no longer be flipped no matter what.
"Five. Is this already the limit?"
Lei Ke Dun murmured softly, his figure instantly turning transparent, like a statue formed from countless gathered starlight, sparkling with specks of light, rapidly shattering into brilliant starlight points that flowed toward the edge of this thunderstorm forest.
Ha! A Meng watched as Rekton turned into starlight and drifted away, letting out a light laugh.
They raised a hand to straighten the monocle over their eye socket; the silver-white lightning that had been falling toward them vanished instantly, as if it had never appeared.
They gazed toward the place where Rekton had departed, and murmured:
"After chatting for so long, the hidden effect he had placed on himself was finally stolen away; the die of absolute luck really is quite troublesome."
"Every gift from fate has already had its price marked in secret; will that very distinctive die betray us at the most crucial moment?"
"I'm really looking forward to it!"
With a slight curl of the lips, they sighed; their figure abruptly vanished and reappeared amidst the gaps of the lightning storm, moving on by stealing position.
Boom! At the edge of the Thunder Forest, a terrifying sonic boom, mixed with the wail of the wind domain, rang out instantly; the drifting specks of starlight were instantly scattered, and could no longer fully dodge the lightning falling from the sky.
