Chapter 398: Prophecy
Lei Kedun slightly raised his hand, sending the paper in his grasp back to the spirit realm, turned his head toward the firelight in the fireplace, and his thoughts gradually dispersed.
Finished playing the recorder so quickly? Indeed, recording extraordinary abilities and scenery customs is truly no difficulty for members of the Abraham family; the only difficulty is the ramblings from Mr. Men during the promotion.
As his thoughts floated, his inspiration was suddenly stirred, and his eyes instantly became profoundly deep, resembling the sea surface before a storm.
In this state, he clearly lost focus, his vision a vague expanse.
A very vague image rose in his mind: dense gray mist spreading everywhere, appearing in the past and in the future, with numerous things surging from it.
There were flickering with strange colors, like keys forged from light; also an illusory feel, like stacked pixels built from countless data, continuously simulating all things and the world's operation; an exaggerated, endless river emerging from the unknown, as if the end of life, the terminus of all things, set against a bizarre sky of twinkling stars, the starlight twisted, roared, tearing the firmament, carrying indescribable disaster and madness whoo~whoo~. Lei Kedun's eyes quickly cleared, his body leaned forward instantly, his lips kept opening and closing as he gasped.
Although the image that had just surfaced in his mind was vague, it carried an indescribable horror and madness; merely recalling it made him feel his mental state slipping.
"What's happening? Why did I prophesy this scene? This isn't the normal vision one should see at the end times."
After a moment of murmuring to himself, Lei Kedun felt his mental state recover, and he leaned back against the sofa, kneading his forehead as he fell into thought.
That dense gray mist should be the fog of history; it represents Source Fortress, and the seal left by the previous Lord of the Mysteries?
While pondering, he reached into his coat pocket, took out a small iron box containing a Probability Dice, squeezed the die in his hand and muttered, "Does source essence rising from the gray mist mean the seal was lifted, or that source essence broke through the seal?"
As the words fell, he tossed the Probability Dice from his hand.
Ding~Ding~ the milky-white die landed on the floor, wobbling a few turns before stopping, three dots facing up! After a pause it spontaneously rolled once more, becoming four dots up! My guesses are all inaccurate? Or both are true? Ke Lai En, after seizing Source Fortress, tried to weaken the seal's influence, and the source essences on the Western Continent seized the chance to surge out?
Immediately he dismissed that conjecture. My spiritual intuition felt no stir; perhaps I only guessed part of it.
His gaze returned to the Probability Dice on the ground, he reached out, picked it up, and continued muttering, "When source essence breaks through the Western Continent's seal, will it attract the attention of those beings in the starry sky?"
"But they shouldn't have the ability to directly tear the primordial leftover barrier, right? Is it because time is already close to the end? Or something else has changed?"
After finishing his mutter, he casually tossed the Probability Dice onto the floor, where it clanged ding-ding, wobbling for a long while without ever stopping.
"You don't know the answer either?"
Lei Kedun retorted to himself.
The next moment, the Probability Dice stopped on its own, four dots up!
"Forgotten, you represent the uncertainty of fate; this kind of question is clearly better explained by the Cycle of Destiny or the Fate Signpost."
As soon as the words fell, an indeterminate starry sky faintly materialized before his eyes, bearing a bizarre, indescribable intense contamination; I seemed to see Fate. Boom! Beside him, the fireplace flame erupted violently, as if something flammable and explosive had mixed into the burning wood.
The violent sound snapped Lei Kedun back to reality; he quickly reached forward, pulling forth a layer of tranquil night, shrouding his entire estate in secrecy.
Mystery reappears the Night Country! It directly severed his connection to the starry sky.
Having done all that, he immediately closed his eyes, adjusting his own state.
The balance between madness and reason began to shift; the gaze from the starry sky prevented his suppressed primal desires and madness from stirring, causing the previously balanced rationality of humanity and divinity to deviate.
A flash of deep blue‑purple light swept by, and Lei Kedun entered a sage‑like state, giving an unusually holy, wisdom‑filled impression yet appearing rather cold and without warmth.
This was his application of an absolute rational state, making adjustments leaning toward the peering‑secretive mode, similar to a sage state.
About two or three minutes later, his mental state regained balance.
He let out a long sigh, Lei Kedun reopened his eyes, a streak of cold, temperature‑less light flickered across his pupils, and soon returned to normal.
My condition is worse than I expected; in this state I wouldn't even dare face an audience. If they unleash a plague storm, I would likely lose control outright—accurately speaking, it's my humanity that unravels, collapsing, while divinity directly takes over the body.
While pondering, he bent down, picked up the Probability Dice from the ground, and softly sighed, "At least my luck isn't bad."
The next morning, in Jian Hai Jun Kang Si Dun City. Lei Kedun's figure emerged among the starlight, he stared at the wooden door painted red, and knocked twice.
Dong~Dong~ after a brief wait, the wooden door was opened from inside, warm air from the room brushed his face, and Lawrence, wearing a heavy wool coat and a semi‑high black hat, appeared in the doorway.
His azure eyes looked lively, and his demeanor no longer seemed as aged as before.
"Good morning, Mr. Lawrence."
Lei Kedun smiled and greeted him.
Lawrence returned the smile, simultaneously stepping aside to make a passage:
"Good morning, Mr. Tai En Si, I didn't expect you to come so quickly."
"I happen to be in Beikelande, and I have free time today."
As he spoke, Lei Kedun had already stepped into the house.
His gaze casually swept around; the room's furnishings were simple, seeming to be a seldom‑occupied place.
After Lawrence closed the wooden door, he walked to the fireplace, brewed coffee, and said:
"This is merely my temporary residence; I'm not sure I can ascend normally, so I chose to stay in the more remote outskirts. Even if the ascent fails, no one will trace the Abraham family through clues."
Lei Kedun lightly nodded, his voice calm as he said:
"I'll keep an eye out for the extraordinary materials you need; if no suitable seller exists, you could consider hunting the corresponding extraordinary creatures, or simply shatter a matching traveler's magical item."
"I was planning that; the Abraham family has records of locations where spirit‑realm infiltrators often appear."
Lawrence gave a slight nod and explained, this is also his main reason for needing to record more extraordinary abilities.
After the two chatted casually for a while, Lei Kedun said with a smile:
"Let's begin recording the spell."
As he spoke, he flicked his wrist like a magician, producing a pea that instantly grew, turning into thick green vines that spread over the surrounding area like a downpour.
They intertwined, rapidly forming a forest, layer upon layer upward, with no visible canopy.
In the blink of an eye, they had moved from the warm interior to an unknown emerald forest.
In Lawrence's eyes reflected an illusory book slowly turning pages; his mind repeatedly replayed Lei Kedun's motions during the mystery reappearance, prompting his activated cells to form corresponding symbols, patterns, and sigils.
After a moment of silence, Lawrence sighed helplessly, "The recording failed; this extraordinary ability is of a high tier. With my current occult knowledge, I can only force a memory, and the failure probability is high."
"It's fine, I'm not short on time."
He replied with a smile, and Lei Kedun's figure instantly became transparent, turning into a statue formed from countless gathered starlights.
The statue shattered with a boom, the scattered brilliant starlight surged toward the opposite side of the emerald forest.
During the surge, specks of starlight began coalescing inside, re‑revealing Lei Kedun's figure.
Lawrence, standing nearby, had his eyes light up; the illusory book reflected in his gaze kept turning pages, and after a moment he laughed deeply, "Success."
Lei Kedun lightly nodded, then raised his right hand, a bit of illusory, deep black began to emerge, full of decadent and filthy meaning.
