Chapter 402: Northern King

~7 min read 1,320 words

When introducing Long Ze Er, Ao Deli's voice grew noticeably heavier; as a Luen noble, she felt a stronger emotion toward this soldier.

Lei Ke Dun and the others followed Ao Deli's introduction with their gazes, and saw Si Nuo Man, a middle‑aged man in a simple white robe whose exposed skin was covered with various scars.

Long Ze Er wore heavy, sturdy black full‑body armor, held a black straight sword that flashed with cold light, his black hair hanging down, his facial features deep and bearing obvious Luen traits.

After finishing the introductions of the people from the book world, Ao Deli turned to introduce her own side, beginning with Fo Er Si:

"We are companions who came together to explore this book world; this is the 'Magician' lady, this is 'White Tower' gentleman, this is 'World' gentleman, and this is 'Nightmare' gentleman."

When introducing Lun Na De, Ao Deli hesitated briefly, then temporarily gave him a code name using the designation Lei Ke Dun had previously used for the other's sequence.

As a Fourth Era noble, Mo Bei Te's gaze subconsciously fell on Lun Na De, and with a tone of doubt and caution he said, "Nightmare? Are you all worshippers of the night?"

Lei Ke Dun's eyes lingered for a moment on this direct descendant of Pa Lie Si, then he chuckled and said:

"No, obtaining extraordinary abilities through other means is not particularly difficult."

Unconcerned with Mo Bei Te and the others' reactions, Lei Ke Dun continued:

"We happen to have a member of the Suo Luo Ya Si De family here; perhaps you could pour out your plight to Him and seek some assistance."

As he spoke, he slightly turned his body, directing his gaze toward Lun Na De, who had stepped back a short distance behind him.

Ke Lai En likewise fixed his eyes on Lun Na De, a subconscious warning rising within him. The angel of the Suo Luo Ya Si De family also entered the book world? Indeed, Lun Na De came in, so the old man parasitizing him must have come too. Is this why he brought Lun Na De into the book world?

"Suo Luo Ya Si De family? Him? Who is it?"

Mo Bei Te's tone suddenly became excited; he felt he had already glimpsed the dawn of escaping this book world.

"Him? There's an angel hidden among us?" Ao Deli's eyes widened, her gaze scanning the crowd in disbelief before finally resting on the Lun Na De she knew least. This 'Nightmare' gentleman is an angel? "It is I~" a somewhat hoarse voice suddenly sounded.

Mo Bei Te's expression suddenly stirred; the voice was very familiar to him, and his eyes fixed directly toward its source.

Lun Na De's expression froze as a semi‑transparent phantom rose from him—a white‑haired, aged elder, his deep brown eyes bearing the weight of many years.

His gaze toward Mo Bei Te carried a hint of nostalgia and an inexplicable sigh; after a moment of silence he spoke in a deep voice:

"Long time no see, Mo Bei Te."

Mo Bei Te remained dazed for a while, quietly watching the suddenly manifested, somewhat translucent phantom.

After a long pause, he finally spoke in a stunned voice:

"Old man! I couldn't learn about the Suo Luo Ya Si De family from those who entered here from behind, and I thought you had already perished in the Four Emperors' War, since even the Emperor fell in that war."

His voice gradually softened to silence; after a pause he continued:

"How did you also get into this book? You can get out, right?"

"Well, it'd be best if you could take me out too, along with my companions."

As he spoke, he turned and pointed at the elf Xia Ta Si behind him, as well as the austere monk Si Nuo Man and others. Behind Mo Bei Te, everyone stared intently at Pa Lie Si; after long acquaintance they already knew of Mo Bei Te, their great‑grandfather, that he was a Rank‑One angel and the greatest hope for their escape from this book world.

Pa Lie Si, seeing Mo Bei Te's hopeful gaze, slowly shook his head, his hoarse voice saying, "No."

"If it were me in my prime, I could certainly do this, but now..."

"Roar~" a massive roar, accompanied by wind and snow, came from mid‑air.

"It's You Li Si An!" The gray‑blue giant Ge Luo Sai Er dragged an exaggerated sword as large as a door panel, took two steps forward, his gaze wary of the suddenly snow‑blown sky.

"The story ends, you can naturally leave this book world, but"

Pa Lie Si's hoary voice echoed, while Mo Bei Te's voice, unhurried and even a bit leisurely, interrupted his subsequent words, saying:

"Old man, what does this Northern King say to you?"

"Hmph! You've lived over a thousand years and you're still so immature."

Pa Lie Si glared irritably at his great‑grandson, and his fleeting phantom re‑merged into Lun Na De's body.

Mo Bei Te, seeing Pa Lie Si return to the stranger's body, immediately grew anxious:

"Sigh~ Old man, aren't you going to help us deal with that ugly lizard?"

Boom! A massive roar echoed from the heights, as if the howling gale were being violently torn apart.

Lei Ke Dun's eyes flashed with a deep‑blue gleam; following his intuition he looked upward, his gaze piercing the layers of snow and wind to see the semi‑transparent figure high above.

It was an ice‑blue giant dragon, seemingly a close kin of a lizard, with an ugly face, deep‑blue eyes, and a thick, powerful tail; massive wings covered with a membrane sprouted from its back, and a single beat chilled the surrounding blizzard considerably.

Its scales resembled ice crystals, shimmering with translucent glints; they were the most beautiful and ethereal part of its entire body.

"So this is a Second Era dragon? It's rather ugly, no wonder it only plays the villain in fairy tales."

Lei Ke Dun made a joking sigh, then turned and walked outward, quickly passing the gray‑blue giant Ge Luo Sai Er.

Amid the biting blizzard, he leaned his body back, arms outstretched, as if embracing the sun.

Spirits surged within him, coating him in a golden hue, dazzling like the noon sun.

A grand, pure beam of sunlight pierced the howling cold wind and falling snow, followed by more rays breaking through the clouds, forcibly turning the weather into a bright summer day.

"Too bright~" Fo Er Si murmured, instinctively squinting his eyes while raising a hand to shield them.

Besides the giant Ge Luo Sai Er, and Lun Na De, who was parasitized by Pa Lie Si, the others simultaneously squinted to shield their eyes from the sun.

"Roar~" the ice‑frost dragon spiraling in the sky let out a roar.

With its sound, the whimpering wind suddenly grew fierce, and the previously rising temperature dropped again.

Lei Ke Dun retracted his outstretched arms; his right hand, while moving, coalesced into an ancient‑style spear, its tip to hilt ablaze with countless specks of dark‑red, blood‑colored flame.

A strong sense of danger made the soaring 'Northern King' You Li Si An consider retreat.

It swiftly lifted its body; as its massive membrane‑covered wings beat, they shed a spray of ice‑blue light that instantly shattered into countless crystal‑clear snowflakes.

As the whimpering wind roared, a terrifying blizzard erupted in midair, simultaneously concealing You Li Si An's massive silhouette.

Lei Ke Dun ignored the renewed blizzard, his gaze fixed on You Li Si An, and his right hand thrust the dark‑red spear forward in a flash.

It left a streak of dark‑red, flickering flame in the air, piercing the whimpering gale and crystal snow, striking the now‑elevated You Li Si An.

Aaa~ a wail‑like roar echoed from the blizzard as a massive figure uncontrollably tumbled out of the snowstorm.
