Chapter 494: The Future, Which Produces Milk

~10 min read 1,949 words

After communicating with Klein for a while, Leighton stood up and walked toward the cabin; he intended to go find Beiernadai to ask about the dream behind that door deep in the temple.

Just as he stepped out of the stairwell, he saw Jia De Li Ya hesitating at the doorway, her right hand raised but never knocking; she seemed still undecided whether to knock.

Hearing footsteps behind her in the stairwell, she turned slightly surprised, saw that the person was Leighton, seemed to sigh in relief, and then withdrew her gaze.

After Leighton approached, they exchanged a glance, then he moved past her and raised his hand to knock on the door.

Thud! Thud! The knocking sounded, but there was no response whatsoever from inside the room.

Jia De Li Ya looked at the room before her that gave no response at all, her expression somewhat disappointed.

After a brief pause, she finally spoke: "How did you come here?"

"I have something I want to ask." As he spoke, Leighton had already reached out and turned the door handle.

Click!

The door was pushed open directly; Leighton turned his body sideways, indicating that one could enter.

Jia De Li Ya stood at the doorway looking inside; aside from some idle fishing nets, harpoons, canvas and other tools, there was nothing else, nor any silhouette standing by the window.

Seeing Jia De Li Ya not move, Leighton himself stepped forward into the room, and at the same time said: "In my hometown, not speaking generally signifies assent."

"Assent?" Jia De Li Ya murmured, then followed him into the room.

Thick green vines suddenly drooped from above their heads, covering the surrounding area like a downpour; they twined and intertwined, rapidly forming a forest, layer upon layer, with no edge in sight.

In the center of the verdant forest, Beiernadai wore an olive-green long dress, donned an old-fashioned black soft hat, with fine-check gauze hanging down to cover her face; she sat quietly at a desk, an unclosed book beside her right hand.

She glanced with interest at Leighton and Jia De Li Ya, her tone tinged with a hint of doubt, and said:

"In Feinebort, does not speaking signify assent?"

"No, this is just a custom of a small place." Leighton explained, somewhat embarrassed.

Beiernadai did not dwell on this issue; her gaze fell on Leighton, and she spoke in a flat tone:

"Your mental state has recovered very well, better than I expected; it seems you have already prepared a certain number of anchors for yourself?"

"Just some necessary preparations." Leighton candidly admitted this, paused slightly, then continued: "I want to learn from you some information about the dream left behind by the Ancient Sun God deep in that temple."

Beiernadai seemed not surprised by Leighton's question, nodded lightly, then asked:

"Are you looking for a way to enter the Godforsaken Land? What there attracts you? Or rather, what there attracts the hidden sages?"

"By relying on the seals left by the seven gods, that place can conceal the connection between the hidden sages and me, ensuring that I won't be assimilated by Him the instant I advance."

Leighton briefly stated his plan, but also kept part of it to himself.

Beiernadai gave a slight nod, fell into a brief silence as if pondering something, then after a moment spoke:

"The ritual to advance to 'Sage' essentially involves establishing a certain connection with the vividly imprinted, high-level and extraordinarily solid information in the spirit world, ensuring that one's own essence is not scattered by other information in the short term, helping the advancer initially stabilize their consciousness, gradually gathering the dispersing, diluting flood of the original information."

"The True Creator is isolated in the Godforsaken Land; He can fulfill the ritual's requirements, but as the true god who governs the fallen domain, you must be careful not to be influenced by Him."

Leighton nodded solemnly and seriously, without explaining that his advancement did not require the ritual's aid, which would cause unnecessary suspicion from the other party.

After asking Beiernadai about the dream of the Ancient Sun God before its fall, he then bade farewell, and Beiernadai saw him off from the forest woven from countless pea vines.

After Leighton's silhouette disappeared, the emotion hidden in Jia De Li Ya's eyes finally surfaced.

She looked at Beiernadai sitting opposite with a complex expression, tightly pressed her lips, and though she had wanted to say, "You're clearly on the ship, why not show yourself?", what came out instead was:

"When you encountered the Deathbringer, did you intervene?"

Beiernadai gave a slight nod and said: "Yes, you handled the ship's affairs very well; there's no need for me to appear and help."

"But" Jia De Li Ya opened her mouth, the words at the tip of her tongue then she didn't know what to say.

Meanwhile, on the deck of the Future, Leighton had just stepped out of the cabin when he saw Fu Lan Ke standing aside, his expression both shocked and bewildered.

Following his gaze, Leighton looked at the deck of the Future; amid Fu Lan Ke's knocking sounds, a gap between the deck planks suddenly widened, and a stream of milky-white liquid sprayed out, splashing Fu Lan Ke's face.

Fu Lan Ke instinctively licked the liquid at the corner of his mouth, his expression shifting from bewildered to delighted, and he couldn't help shouting loudly:

"The Future is producing milk! It's producing milk!"

His voice attracted the attention of the nearby pirates; everyone stared over, their faces turning strange and fearful.

At the same time, the rows of cannons lining both sides of the hull also changed; the muzzles that should have fired shells instead streamed out streams of milky-white liquid, which poured straight down onto the sea below.

The pirates along the hull's edge quickly noticed these changes, and they pointed in terror at the position of the lower cannons, saying:

"The muzzle, the muzzle is also spitting milk!"

Fortunately the Future is not a ghost ship, otherwise Fu Lan Ke would have been thrown overboard; Leighton's mouth twitched slightly, deep blue radiance flowed in his eyes, and his gaze swept back and forth over the Future.

Noticing the abnormality on the ship, Ke Lai En hurried over, his expression stern as he looked at Fu Lan Ke and asked:

"After the Future is infected, will they then go on to infect the people aboard the ship?"

Fu Lan Ke thought seriously and replied: "In theory, yes."

Bang!

Before he could finish his words, a sudden figure rushed over and kicked him to the side; the splashing girl on the deck rolled over several times, spilling puddle after puddle of white milk.

Ni Na, wearing a linen shirt and a deep blue jacket, glared angrily at Fu Lan Ke, her chest rising and falling from the recent vigorous movement.

Without giving Fu Lan Ke time to react, just as she steadied herself, she shouted in anger:

"What the hell are you researching?! Do you think my breasts aren't big enough?"

"Hurry up and deal with them!"

". Alright." Fu Lan Ke patted his buttocks and stood up from the deck.

He took out a bottle of dark-green powder from his pocket, grabbed a large handful, and while chanting the giant-language incantation, he scattered the powder around.

"Wait a—" Leighton's words hadn't even left his mouth when Fu Lan Ke had already finished the casting motion.

Those dark-green powders, upon contacting the deck, instantly sprouted green vines that grew wildly, quickly absorbing the milk on the Future and the things producing it.

Fu Lan Ke was about to say the problem was solved when his face suddenly darkened, and he shouted urgently: "They, they've also mutated!"

Like receiving ample nourishment, the green vines quickly entwined the entire Future; in just a few seconds, the Future became a moving forest of green.

Leighton raised a hand to his forehead, his tone stern as he warned:

This sea area is filled with the aura left by the Earth Mother Goddess; do not use earth-domain extraordinary abilities here, for they will all produce uncontrollable anomalies.

Hearing Leikton's words, Frank's eyes brightened, then he clasped his hands together, making the posture of holding a baby, and said:

Praise you, merciful mother!

Then he lowered his body again and devoutly kissed the vines on the light deck.

"You really are devout," Anderson, who was watching this scene from the side, exclaimed with a twitch of his mouth.

This is, a pirate staggered over, he clutched his head in terror and shouted:

I-I grew a watermelon on my head!

Boom!

A huge slamming sound rang out, and the entire Future shook twice, as if some giant creature were attacking the hull.

The wobbling pirate stumbled and fell onto the deck; the watermelon on his head instantly burst, revealing a milky-white 'brain' full of grooves inside, and a scarlet liquid like blood poured out from within the watermelon.

The pirate's body instantly stiffened, losing the breath of life, and his extraordinary characteristics also precipitated at this moment and began to condense.

Boom! Boom!

Another two booms sounded, and another huge gray-black arm stretched out from the sea; the two arms struck the Future from different directions, trying to drag it into the sea.

On the deck, Leikton slightly raised his right hand, and one star after another appeared around him, numerous and dazzlingly bright.

These stars showered down one radiant beam after another, converging into the magnificent Light Giant Pillar, enveloping everything around; the cyan-green vines entwining the Future were quickly dissolved by the starlight and collapsed.

Pure, brilliant starlight swiftly purified all dishonorable auras on the Future.

Those two gray-black giant arms emitted a sizzling sound under the starlight, and a mixed odor of rot and burnt, together with dark smoke, spread out.

The Future suddenly became transparent, illusory, and turned into a mass of foam.

These foams, under the noon sunlight, reflected dreamlike colors, drifting everywhere, fleeting in an instant.

The gray-black giant hand grasped at nothing; as the Future disappeared, the huge shadow hidden beneath the sea surface also revealed its true form.

That was a monster composed of countless writhing flesh chunks and shadows, as if pieced together from innumerable gray and black corpses; its two withered, dry-wood-like arms seemed to come from a giant, but behind the body there were fish bodies covered in scales and lizard-like remnants, twisted human corpses, stacked layer upon layer in disorder, forming a floating-island-like mass of flesh.

In the gaps between the spliced corpses, streams of yellow-green gas burst forth, spreading outward, as if seeking to envelop the surrounding area.

On the other side, the Future, which Leikton had just led away a certain distance, was quickly caught up by these yellow-green gases.

Cough! Cough cough!

The sailors remaining on the deck immediately began to cough, the coughing growing increasingly severe, to the point they could not straighten their waists.

Whoa!

The hazy starry sky, like a tangible friction against the air, rolled up a brilliant storm, swiftly blowing away and purifying the yellow-green gas approaching the Future.

As the yellow-green gas in the air dissipated, the people on the deck once again saw clearly the gray-black monster formed from the huge mass of flesh approaching them.

Between the monster's corpses, dense hairs suddenly sprouted, dark black with a hint of dark green, forming a blackish tide that swiftly rushed toward the Future.

"What kind of monster is this?" Klein frowned and spoke; his sense felt paralysis, deadly poison, madness, decay, and countless other negative effects from those dark black-green hairs.
