Chapter 546: Ascension of the Sage (Supplement to Yesterday

~8 min read 1,514 words

At the far east of the Abandoned Land, where the endless gray mist forms a thick barrier.

Rekton, who was in an informational state and had lost perception of his surroundings, suddenly became clear-headed and gradually reclaimed himself.

Countless prayers echoed in his ears, spoken in different languages, tones, and timbres, sounding chaotic, yet he could very easily discern the meaning behind each voice, grasp the emotions and will embedded in the words, and thereby make his spirit more solid.

During this process, his own spiritual will began to undergo a subtle qualitative change, gradually detaching from the angelic level and evolving toward a higher stature; under the onslaught of chaotic, massive information, his spirit appeared unusually stable.

As his thoughts cleared, he started to gradually gather the dispersed, diluted flow of his core information and begin to reconverge it.

In a moment, he vaguely saw an indescribable, ineffable silvery-white radiance, vast and surging, with no visible beginning or end, oddly reminiscent of the river that symbolizes fate.

As the light emerged, something seemed to shatter within him, while something else began to take root and sprout, growing rapidly.

He felt far more relaxed and at ease, as if shedding a heavy disguise and returning to his true self.

In his mind, many vague memories he had consciously or unconsciously forgotten resurfaced; he saw that indescribable, infinitely vast wilderness, but this time his perspective shifted, as if he had become the wilderness itself.

He saw again that indescribable, pure, silvery-white light that seemed to encompass everything yet was utterly chaotic; this time he learned its name: Key of Light, Endless Chaos, Avatar of Fate.

It is the Key of Light that represents the chaos of fate, the avatar of destiny.

It has always stood alone, watching and observing everything, never taking part in the schemes or actions of the other essences, nor communicating with them.

Below it, in the wilderness where countless silhouettes wander, massive chasms split open, countless black entities surge from them, and high above, the silvery long river intertwines and flows.

The scene blurred quickly; he saw the wilderness and silvery light return to calm, a faint, indistinct glow bursting from the depths of the wilderness, falling into the river that symbolizes fate, coating it with a thick layer of silver, and being thrust outward, beyond the endless gray mist.

Gradually, a relatively clear delirious voice echoed in Rekton's ears, indifferent and mad, as if muttering to itself: "It is the most mysterious, and also the earliest awakened essence."

"As the chaotic facet of fate, it sensed the soul I captured, a soul unlike any in this universe."

"Pursuing knowledge, pursuing fate is our instinct; I clashed with it, and that soul shattered during the process, causing us to shift from confrontation to cooperation."

It was not any known language, yet Rekton could easily comprehend the meaning it conveyed.

After a brief silence, he asked himself in his mind: "Am I the experimental product of your collaboration? A role meant to gather traits and authority beyond the seal?"

The indifferent, mad delirium continued to echo in his ears:

"Yes, and no."

"You are more successful than the Hidden Sage, you are a fragment of me, a facet of my personality."

"Before the seal on the Western Continent is lifted, I cannot fully merge with you; the information I can transmit and the penetrating power are very limited."

"Your interference with fate will become the Key of Light's sustenance, anchoring it to the outside world; if we generate enough chaos, perhaps we can break the seal before the Mysterious Secret returns, seizing more authority."

"This is crucial in the subsequent confrontations with the High-Dimensional Overseer, the Superstar Sovereign, the Fate Weaver, and the Ring of Destiny."

"Do not trust the Mysterious Secret; under no circumstances should you trust it."

"God is likewise untrustworthy; maintaining balance among them and ensuring God can never be born is the best outcome."

This was not the other side answering his question, but pre‑set information already transmitted; the Knowledge Wilderness, as the core, had already anticipated his reaction, making it seem like a Q&A.

The delirious voice fading from his ears, a faint glow composed of layers upon layers of tangled knowledge detached from the deep spirit realm, gathered before the wall of endless gray mist, and with massive pure knowledge reconstituted Rekton's body. His flesh and blood still writhed extremely slowly, as if eyes were sprouting from within.

His eyes flickered with pure light, giving an exceptionally holy, wise impression, yet they seemed rather cold and without warmth.

The state did not last long; he casually found a massive stone nearby, sat down, closed his eyes, and meditated to restore himself.

After ten or twenty minutes, when he opened his eyes again, the unusually pure, icy light had vanished, and his flesh had settled.

"Huh"

"It's a bit worse than I expected, yet also a bit better than I imagined."

"But I think I understand why my luck fluctuates, and why I sometimes make decisions that contradict my predictions and character."

"No wonder I took Will Anseatin's probability dice; he only complained twice in a dream, and I keep failing to see Urolyx."

He paused, then quickly thought of a new question. If I return to the Knowledge Wilderness, I will likely face the same issue as the True Creator; after merging, who would lead? I am merely a personality facet and could never outcompete the Western Continent's Knowledge Wilderness, unless that old salted fish, the Key of Light, is willing to help me.

"The new identity adapts a bit quickly, like a manifestation of a Virtual Persona; the Knowledge Wilderness was once compatible with God, so it retains some dreamer's data—can it simulate the corresponding abilities?"

"I still need to look for Miss Justice, hoping she has already been promoted to Hypnotist, so the psychological intervention will be more effective."

He muttered two sentences softly, swiftly reined in his scattered thoughts, and, using the silvery light from the frequent lightning in the sky, looked around.

A faint violet gleam flashed in his eyes, and everything around transformed in his sight, becoming incredibly clear and transparent; by focusing, his thought speed increased dramatically, making everything in view appear as if in slow motion.

As his attention concentrated, the silvery lightning streaking across the sky slowed in his vision, allowing him to dissect it piece by piece, see the charge's trajectory, decompose the current on an informational level, understand its effects, and discern the types of forces that counter it or are countered by it.

He could see the traces left by monsters hidden in the dark, their hiding places, and their peculiarities.

He could even peer through the sky‑covering clouds to glimpse the lingering aura of the Storm Lord, discern the shadow curtains falling from the boundless heights, and see the tranquil, peaceful darkness within.

After taking in everything around him, he closed his eyes, then opened them again; the pale blue eyes no longer bore the faint violet hue, yet still conveyed a sense of wisdom, perhaps overly calm and thus aloof.

He curled his mouth slightly, feeling his smile was somewhat false, a purely superficial expression.

Humanity grew ever thinner. He sighed inwardly, his eyes slightly lowered, carefully feeling the changes since becoming an angel and the boost to his extraordinary abilities: "The Eye of Secret Peeking has further advanced; beyond perceiving structures on an informational level, it now possesses the ability to discern essence, akin to the Path of the Perfect One that only angels have."

"Combined with a bullet‑time‑like rapid thinking ability, I can analyze the extraordinary beings, powers, and wondrous items I see in a short span, grasp their weaknesses and strengths, and resolve issues with great ease."

"This is somewhat like the Insight of the White Tower path, but likely stronger; even angels find it hard to hide anything from my Eye of Secret Peeking, unless they are a Hidden Angel."

"The extraordinary abilities I originally possessed have all risen to the angelic tier; moreover, I can transmute mastered knowledge into tangible power, akin to a higher‑grade version of Mysterious Reappearance, and even turn myself into a pure information‑flow entity—further still, this is the Knowledge Emperor's manipulation and alteration of information."

"I am now a complete mythic creature; thanks to the essence of the Knowledge Wilderness, I lack the old stature but surpass ordinary angels, even the Sequence‑0 true gods. Especially when confronting high‑level beings of the Path of the Perfect One and the Hermit, I naturally suppress them."

"Heh, I even feel I could duel Steam now, only to likely be suppressed by it and become a new seal object."

He made a self‑deprecating remark, reached out to grasp the dark‑copper lantern out of thin air, and the next second his figure vanished instantly, reappearing hundreds of meters away.

Guided by a premonition, he headed north along the barrier forged from gray mist, his form repeatedly vanishing and reappearing, covering thousands of meters in a moment.
