Chapter 597: Each Their Own
Above the gray mist, Ke Lai En's expression grew unusually solemn; he stopped trying to do anything, and the lightning just now was only a reactive response and probe after seeing A Meng, and the A Meng parasitizing Daniz is not so easy to eliminate.
The earlier probe made him understand that this A Meng's avatar retained considerable strength and could easily steal the lightning he struck down with the Sea God Staff.
"It's still that priest who always wears a warm smile; he seems able to see the A Meng attached to Daniz and even interact with A Meng at such close range, so he must not be simple."
He sighed, gave An De Sen a normal reply, then cut the connection, and immediately threw the scene he had just seen through the prayer's light into the deep crimson star representing Rekton.
A moment later, the deep crimson star for Rekton rippled outward, and as Ke Lai En's spiritual aura touched the star, Hermes words floated in the air: "A Meng and Ya Dang, you'd better pray to the Night a bit, just say Ya Dang also brought A Meng over."
The crimson words hovered for a while before vanishing on their own; Ke Lai En leaned back in the high-backed chair at the head of the mottled long table, his face grim: "That blond priest is Ya Dang? He's a bit different from what I imagined; he feels warm and lacks the oppressive aura after learning 0‑08."
"The demigod spectator that An De Sen provoked back then was Ya Dang's subordinate; he was luckier than I thought. What did Ya Dang—or his subordinate—do to An De Sen? And why bring him to the Southern Continent? An De Sen is only a Sequence Five, surely Ya Dang the Angel King wouldn't take interest in him."
"An De Sen replaced the pirate he originally hunted; his spirit is unusually active. It's like bait for fishing, meant to attract a certain hunter's path?"
Ke Lai En recalled the Red Angel Demon Spirit in the Beikeland Underground Ruins, noting that only that former Angel King's demon spirit was worthy of bait prepared specially by Ya Dang.
As the thought drifted, Ke Lai En thought of Yin Si Zangwei'er, who was possessed by a demon spirit, and whispered hoarsely:
"Yin Si Zangwei'er won't be possessed by that Red Angel's demon spirit, will he? Did he come to the Southern Continent under the demon's influence, or to seek a cure for the possession?"
"What help can praying to the goddess bring? More information? Or a silent influence on Yin Si Zangwei'er so that the Red Glove Squad eliminates him before he falls into Ya Dang's trap?"
Thinking this, Ke Lai En immediately made a decision, spread his spiritual aura to envelop himself, and left the gray mist above.
Northern Province, a tavern in Kukva City.
Ke Lai En opened his eyes from the recliner and stood, instinctively scanning the surroundings; after confirming nothing was amiss, he relaxed.
"Good thing I didn't stay in Beren's Port; otherwise I'd have met A Meng head‑on."
While sighing, he swiftly rummaged the room for the leftover materials from his last prayer to the artificial Death God, and prayed to the Night Goddess who already possessed the uniqueness of the "Death God."
After praying, he waited a while but never received a response from the Night Goddess; Ke Lai En let out a helpless sigh and had to pack up and end the prayer.
He then fetched paper and pen, quickly wrote a letter to Leonard and the old man inside him, also hinting that Leonard could ask the old man for a few Time Worms.
In less than ten minutes, the messenger girl carrying four heads placed Leonard's reply before him.
After leaving the letter, the messenger girl did not leave immediately; the four heads with eight eyes she held stared intently at Ke Lai En, making his scalp tingle, before she said:
"Recently." "Don't." "Summon." "Me."
"Why?"
Ke Lai En looked at the messenger girl in surprise; he had just been pondering whether to trust her to help hunt Yin Si Zangwei'er, but his current poor finances kept him from speaking.
The four golden‑hair, red‑eyed heads on her hands each spoke in turn:
"Sè Ā." "At." "Looking for me."
Ke Lai En nodded heavily and said, "Alright, I understand."
"Goodbye."
The head that hadn't spoken earlier suddenly uttered a line, then her body became transparent and vanished before Ke Lai En's eyes.
Huh~ Ke Lai En exhaled a long breath, his brows knit together: "Why did all the problems erupt at once?"
Sighing, he flicked the letter in his hand, displaying its contents before his eyes—only a few lines:
"I'm already in Beren's Port."
"Also, the old man, to avoid possible A Meng sight, entered deep sleep; he doesn't want to waste extra power now, so he released the Time Worms."
"This," Ke Lai En opened his mouth, then swallowed the words again.
In Beren's Port's dock area, Rekton stepped on an ant that had crawled to his foot.
The ant's right eye bore a white ring; as it died, a faint white light, invisible to the naked eye, separated from its body and drifted away.
Rekton sat on the seaside rail, pure pale‑purple light flickering in his eyes, absorbing all information of Beren's Port. "This city is full of A Meng; they've already merged into an angel‑level avatar."
While sighing, a pale‑yellow letter drifted down from the spirit realm, which he caught casually; it scribbled a few words: "I'm in Beren's Port, A Meng has also arrived here!"
Rekton rubbed the pale‑yellow paper twice with his right hand; a scarlet flame burst forth, quickly burning the paper to ash, which the sea wind scattered into the air.
After the paper burned, Rekton turned on the rail, gazing at the sea ahead, his eyes showing a deep, intermittent silver‑white glow.
In mid‑air, a black‑eyed gull circled a few times, then rode the wind down into the shadow at Rekton's feet.
That shadow instantly came alive, flowing like water, writhing, and from it emerged crimson words formed of blood and flesh:
"Under certain coincidences and escalating conflicts, the Rose School allied the Highland Kingdom and the Hagati Kingdom to attack the Pas Valley; I can't leave for now, others cannot resist the 'Desire Mother Tree' under Torzna's influence."
Rekton lowered his gaze, read the lines floating from the black shadow, and said softly without expression:
"This was expected; have there been any movements from Indis and the Steam Church?"
The crimson words in the shadow writhed again, quickly forming a new sentence: "Bo Nuo Wa Gu Si Ta Fu appeared around the Harvest Plains of Dong Bai Lang."
The phrase lingered for about two seconds, then the crimson flesh dissolved back into the shadow, which settled as if nothing had happened or remained.
"Bo Nuo Wa has come to the Southern Continent. What has 'Steam' discovered, or is it still probing?"
Rekton murmured to the sea ahead, then suddenly a crow with a white ring around its right eye landed on his shoulder, flapping its wings and watching the spot where the shadow had writhed.
Rekton tilted his head, looked at the crow on his shoulder, neither driving it away nor killing it, and asked lightly: "What do you two brothers want to do?"
The crow on his shoulder opened its beak and spoke in A Meng's voice:
"My paranoid elder brother wants to obtain the final 'Writer' trait, but he finds many people openly or covertly blocking him; some of his collaborations with the Night are no longer reliable. To prevent accidents, he chose to seek my help."
After a pause, A Meng added:
"His condition is that I help him find Pa Lie Si."
"No wonder." Rekton's eyes flickered briefly, silently adding a hidden effect to himself.
The crow on his shoulder lifted a wing, pressed the white ring around its right eye, and said softly: "You really don't need to guard against me so much; after all, I'm just a Sequence Three avatar. If you expose a bit of your true form, I'll be contaminated by you."
"Heh." Rekton chuckled, said nothing more, and his body vaporized, breaking into pure streams of information that surged toward the sea.
The crow with the white ring landed on the rail, its silhouette blurred, and the next second it became an image of A Meng dressed in a black long coat, black curls, black eyes, a broad forehead, and a thin face.
He watched the torrent of information flowing away, lifted his right hand to adjust the single crystal‑grounded eyepiece on his face, and the corner of his mouth twitched:
"He really left; Pa Li Si hasn't arrived here yet?"
While muttering to himself, he glanced at the flock of seabirds circling above his head.
In silence, a black eye circle appeared on the right eye of each of the several white seabirds that had just flown past above his head.
After parasitizing several seabirds, his figure suddenly blurred and then vanished from the dock.
Deep in the Spirit Realm, in an area patterned with blue-green pea vines, Lei Kedun's figure silently appeared here.
Before he could take a few steps forward, individual blue-green vines drooped down, intertwining into a swing suspended in midair, and Beiernadai's figure then appeared upon it.
She looked at Lei Kedun with some doubt and then asked, "How did you manage to enter here silently?"
"My control over information is a bit stronger than that of an ordinary sage," Lei Kedun explained with a light laugh.
Beiernadai gave a noncommittal nod, then handed over the wish-granting divine lamp that resembled a miniature kettle.
After Lei Kedun took it, he tapped the side of the wish-granting divine lamp twice and then said:
"It's time for you to fulfill your promise."
