Chapter 60: Mystic Scholar Experience Card

~7 min read 1,225 words

Lei Kedun, while stepping back, lightly patted the Tu Ba Ge perched on his shoulder twice with his left hand; the Tu Ba Ge's pupils dilated instantly, and the surrounding environment was once again enveloped in a flash of bright light.

Lei Kedun had already closed his eyes in advance, and as his body dodged to the side, he uttered a dragon‑language word, "Thunderstrike."

The werewolf, also keeping its eyes shut in the bright light, froze for an instant, then realized there was no spiritual ripple around; it had been deceived.

When the bright light faded, the werewolf reopened its eyes, and its view was shrouded in mist, unable to see Lei Kedun or the rabbit on its back.

"Hmph!" he snorted coldly; the werewolf's nose twitched slightly, then it locked onto a direction and surged forward.

At that moment, Lei Kedun was swapping all the ordinary bullets in his pistol for enchanted extraordinary rounds, while Tu Ba Ge stood anxiously watching the mist ahead.

A vague silhouette burst from the mist in an instant, crushing an ice crystal that had formed on the ground with a single foot. A gray‑haired, short‑furred arm with sharp claws reached for the Tu Ba Ge standing on the icy ground.

The dragon‑language word "Thunderstrike" rang out from Lei Kedun's mouth.

Along with the sound, a bright bolt of lightning suddenly materialized and struck the spot in front of the werewolf, searing the arm that had reached for Tu Ba Ge to a charred black, while a sizzling electric hiss crackled.

Seizing the chance, Tu Ba Ge kicked off and fled the spot, while a gust of wind rose around it, hastening its escape.

"Venom"—another dragon‑language word.

The werewolf's charred arm turned a sickly green and showed signs of decay, but the process halted after a brief moment.

"You used venom on a werewolf?" The werewolf before him let the malice in its voice rise unchecked.

Confronted with the surging hostility, Lei Kedun instinctively stepped back. The werewolf ignored its own wounds and lunged straight at Lei Kedun.

Four or five meters is a blink of an eye for a werewolf. Lei Kedun didn't even have time to draw his gun before he was hurled backward.

A tearing pain erupted in his chest; Lei Kedun realized the werewolf's claw had ripped his chest open, and its venom was already spreading around the wound.

He tried to raise his hand to fire, but the hand holding the gun snapped instantly, and the intense pain froze his thoughts.

The werewolf surged at blinding speed to Lei Kedun's side, but its claw was deflected by a gray silhouette; at the same time, Tu Ba Ge was knocked airborne, sliding miserably five or six meters across the ground.

Nevertheless, Tu Ba Ge's impact interrupted the werewolf's combo, preventing Lei Kedun from being taken down in one fell swoop.

Lei Kedun, having been thrown a considerable distance, felt his whole body on the verge of falling apart and could not even scramble to his feet. The werewolf redirected its gaze toward him, pulling a grotesquely terrifying grin from its mouth.

In the desperate crisis, Lei Kedun silently recited a sacred name in his mind: the essence of knowledge, the source of mystery, the brilliance of civilization, the steadfastness of truth.

He knew the best choice was to chant the angel's sacred name of the Knowledge Church, but the opposing werewolf clearly would not grant him a moment to speak. In such a moment, only the Knowledge Wilderness, which is tightly linked to him and works without spoken incantation, could possibly save him.

Before Lei Kedun could finish the final line in his mind, a sharp pain seized his chest as a massive claw pierced his heart.

"Sorry, I have an uneasy feeling, so it's better to finish you off quickly," the werewolf said.

Before his consciousness faded, Lei Kedun silently uttered the final phrase in his mind: the steadfastness of truth.

As Lei Kedun's consciousness slipped away, the hidden eye deep within his spirit awakened, and the divine will inside his body seized control.

Lei Kedun, whose chest had been pierced by the werewolf's strike, saw his previously dim eyes flare anew. The werewolf, poised to extract Lei Kedun's heart, froze mid‑action.

Tu Ba Ge, about to rush forward to rescue his boss, saw the werewolf that had thrust its hand into the boss's chest suddenly turn pale with terror and be flung backward amid a spray of starlight.

The moment the werewolf hit the ground, it tried to turn and flee, not knowing what had just occurred, but it was clear that the prey had become itself.

Lei Kedun rose from the ground, his eyes seeming to contain a galaxy; the surrounding area was bathed in brilliant starlight, and his wounds healed rapidly under the cluster of stars.

The fleeing werewolf suddenly found its movements sluggish, its thoughts nearly frozen, even a simple blink became difficult.

Lei Kedun's right hand conjured a star‑light‑condensed chess piece that descended, a mysterious recreation from his memory titled "The Chess Game of Ages."

Simultaneously, an ancient‑styled, blood‑dark red spear, with flames flickering from tip to hilt, coalesced in Lei Kedun's left hand and was hurled outward.

The spear pierced the werewolf's heart; its extraordinary regenerative ability showed no sign, and it swiftly died.

It was likewise a mysterious recreation from Lei Kedun's memory, called "Lankinus's Gun."

"Boss, you're amazing!" Tu Ba Ge exclaimed.

The scene before it surpassed everything the short life of a rabbit had ever witnessed. After hearing Tu Ba Ge's voice, Lei Kedun turned his head to glance at the rabbit.

Cold, terrifying, emotionless eyes stared at Tu Ba Ge; the rabbit, previously excited, instantly froze, as if a monstrous horror had glanced at it, daring not even let its heart beat.

Tu Ba Ge stood rooted, daring not to move. It wanted to ask, "Who are you? Where is my boss?" but overwhelming fear enveloped it, and it could not utter a sound.

The surrounding starlight began to fade rapidly, and the star‑light in Lei Kedun's eyes dimmed likewise; then his whole body seemed to lose its support and collapsed to the ground.

Still rooted, Tu Ba Ge sensed the terrifying aura had vanished, and only then dared to cautiously approach Lei Kedun.

Tu Ba Ge kept glancing anxiously for any further trouble while carefully moving toward Lei Kedun's prone body.

After reaching Lei Kedun, Tu Ba Ge gently tapped him twice with the hat on its head; seeing that Lei Kedun's body showed no response, it finally breathed a sigh of relief.

It put the hat back on its head, then dragged Lei Kedun's body to lean against a nearby tree trunk.

After checking, it found its boss's wounds fully healed; though it didn't know why he remained unconscious, there should be no further danger. This relieved the hat‑wearing Tu Ba Ge, which knew nothing about treating injuries.

Tu Ba Ge brushed the spot where the werewolf's claw had struck, the bright crimson scars standing out starkly on its gray fur; it felt it was becoming an ugly rabbit.

The werewolf's poisoned claws had left Tu Ba Ge's body a bit numb; it wanted to find some herbs to detoxify itself but dared not stray far, fearing another mishap.
