Chapter 633: A Simple Plan
Medici's expression flickered briefly, then settled again, but the mouths of Soren on his left cheek and Einhorn on his right cheek smiled mockingly as they spoke:
"Medici, your secret has been discovered."
"Perhaps he was never Medici."
"Two idiots." Medici snorted coldly, his tone full of contempt: "Being forced to be bound with you is the greatest stain of my life."
Without waiting for Soren and Einhorn to retort, he turned his gaze to the Soren family descendant tainted by Rekton and spoke again:
"What difference is there between this trait being amplified and being polluted?"
"This uses the ability of the Black Emperor's path; essentially the pollution on you hasn't become any worse."
"If you've thought it through, you can come find me at the Ruwa Comprehensive Execution Ground in the Red Hat District."
A dreamlike voice fell, the starlight spreading in the room faded quickly, and the "Eye of Secret Peeking" attached to that Soren family descendant detached on its own, turning into an invisible stream of data that pierced into the spirit realm.
Deprived of the Eye of Secret Peeking's influence, the Soren family descendant soaking in the hot spring collapsed outright, slowly sinking into the water.
Medici glanced at the sinking Soren descendant, his right cheek's mouth slightly opened, exhaling a white‑frost‑like cold breath that instantly froze the hot spring in the inn's room.
Medici, looking at the figure encased in ice, sighed lightly:
"What a pity; after finally finding a suitable host, it's been polluted by that guy just like that."
From the left cheek, Einhorn's consciousness said:
"He did it on purpose; we're not like A Meng's 'parasites'. Suitable hosts are hard to find, and after destroying her, if we want to enter Trill's underground ruins in a short time, we can only rely on his help."
Soren snorted coldly, complaining with clear displeasure:
"Foolish Medici, if your honored name hadn't automatically answered prayers, he could never have discovered us, let alone come so quickly."
Medici scoffed, indifferent to Soren and Einhorn's complaints, saying:
"Ha, why can't it be that I deliberately attracted him here and made him offer help?"
Einhorn snorted disdainfully, saying:
"All you can do is bluff with forced bravado? Just like when A Meng and Adam—no, your master—hunted you, when you were barely able to speak yet you stayed there to intimidate others."
Medici's perpetual smile gradually faded; his gaze turned gloomy, he inhaled deeply, exhaled at length, reorganized his emotions, and spoke again:
"You don't really think our previous plan was flawless, do you? Does the danger of Fourth Era Trill need me to warn you?"
"The ones involved in the original 'Pale Disaster' are far more than we previously understood; the remnants' lingering influence is complex and dangerous."
After a moment of silence, the now‑habitual quarreling Soren still taunted: "Don't act as if you were involved; back then you were locked with us in the Beckland underground ruins, going mad!"
Medici smiled disdainfully: "As the God of War, my command over war is not comparable to you two ordinary angels."
"Ugh!"
Soren and Einhorn both spat.
After a brief silence, Soren said:
"Let her go back; she no longer helps us, and keeping her may just make her that guy's pawn."
Medici and Einhorn remained silent, and the room suddenly fell quiet, leaving only the sound of flames leaping.
The violet‑red flames resembled long serpents winding freely within the hot spring frozen into ice.
After a moment, a thick mist filled the room; the woman lying in the hot spring slowly opened her eyes, vaguely scanning the surroundings, then glanced at her own naked body, her complexion flashing red and white as she withdrew the Eye of Secret Peeking from the Soren descendant, and Rekton returned to the inn in the Plaza District.
After a simple lunch, Rekton and Leonard went to the opera house near the Avenue of Trees to enjoy Indis's art and performance; only after it concluded did the two return to the Plaza District.
At the Indis‑flavored restaurant by the Serenco River, Leonard sat by the window, holding a glass of the place's most famous Summer Pact wine, leisurely as if on vacation.
Looking out at the Serenco River, Leonard sighed suddenly: "Indis's women are truly passionate."
Rekton didn't even lift his head and asked: "Have you already had an in‑depth conversation with a certain lady?"
Leonard was startled for a moment, then shook his head repeatedly: "Of course not; I was just sighing. Such matters don't align with the goddess's doctrine; the goddess teaches us to be loyal to our wives, loyal to our families."
Having explained his view on marriage, Leonard immediately shifted the topic:
"When do you plan to act? If we keep going like this, I'm about to forget our purpose."
"You could just consider yourself on vacation, but the journey's end will bring some mishaps," Rekton replied with a light laugh. Leonard's expression froze, unsure how to respond.
After a brief silence, Rekton suddenly looked toward the opposite bank of the Serenco River and sighed: "Medici's decision was a bit faster than I expected; I thought he'd wrestle with it for at least two or three days."
"What decision?" Leonard asked offhand, only to find Rekton's figure across the table had already vanished.
"Weren't we supposed to treat each other? Why am I left alone at the end?"
Leonard muttered softly, then called the waiter to settle the bill.
The Ruwa Comprehensive Execution Ground, though an execution site, was neither filthy nor gloomy; instead it was meticulously cleaned, with not even a trace of death or chill, appearing thoroughly purified.
Vast yet pure knowledge surged from the spirit realm, rapidly coalescing at the street's edge, revealing Rekton's figure.
Medici, clad in a black long trench coat and a semi‑tall top hat, leaned against the gas streetlamp across the road, his gaze calmly fixed ahead, his tone steady as he said:
"I'm a bit curious, what's your plan?"
Rekton replied frankly: "My plan? Very simple—amplify your underground movements a bit, draw the attention of the Eternal Blazing Sun Church and the Steam Church on the surface, then I'll go to the Steam Church to fetch something."
"Indeed, that's quite simple."
Medici let out a sigh, neither affirming nor denying belief.
Rekton mused, "Sometimes, the simpler the plan, the more efficient."
"I'm not one of those paths that love performance, deception, and fooling others; there's no need to make things so complicated and flamboyant—just achieve the goal."
Medici gave a noncommittal nod, bypassing the topic, and said:
"How do you intend to amplify my traits so I can resist the underground contamination?"
Rekton smiled, not answering directly, and after feeling around the void for a moment, produced a proportionally miniaturized golden kettle, from whose spout a wick extended.
Under Medici's gaze, Rekton lifted his hand and rubbed the lamp's inner wall twice, causing a stream of golden water to spill from the spout, coalescing mid‑air into a twisted golden silhouette.
The Lamp God floated in the air, looking down at the Medici standing on the ground beside Rekton, its voice bearing an indescribable authority and weight as it said:
"State your wish."
"This wishing divine lamp is actually in your hand." Medici curiously glanced at the golden water-pot-shaped lamp in Rexton's hand.
Rexton and the lamp god exchanged a glance, then he raised his hand pointing toward Medici's direction and said: "Amplify the qualities belonging to the 'City of Disaster' on his body, enough to resist the underground pollution of Lord Trier."
"Yes, but it can only last three days."
The lamp god's golden-yellow figure lightly nodded, then reached out toward Medici's direction and grasped; an invisible force surged from its body, causing the surrounding air to twist slightly.
Suddenly, one after another apparition appeared around the execution ground; they wandered aimlessly around, their clothing styles some extremely ancient, some matching current trends, like ghosts from different past times.
Some had no heads, some were completely charred black, some had limbs utterly twisted, as if revealing the punishments they endured before death.
Medici staggered slightly; he had not noticed how these things appeared just now, he looked at Rexton with a doubtful gaze, about to speak, but instead spat out a string of sparks.
Crimson sparks and rust unknowingly emerged from his body, contaminating the surroundings; the air seemed mixed with the smell of gunpowder.
". War!"
". War!"
The wandering apparitions around emitted hoarse voices, as if roaring and shouting, yet also as if worshipping something.
At the center of all this, Medici, about to be submerged by rust and sparks, had lips on his left and right cheeks that were extensions of the consciousness of Soren and Einhorn, which began to shout along with the surrounding apparitions, extremely fervent, extremely twisted.
"Restrain yourself, don't let the commotion grow too big, otherwise before you even enter the underground, you'll be discovered by this place's guardian angel and then purified."
Rexton calmly spoke a reminder; his voice allowed the struggling Medici to finally regain some sanity, as he forcibly suppressed the consciousness of Soren and Einhorn, purple-red flames rose from his body, then transformed into a flaming spear that vanished into the horizon.
As Medici departed, the wandering apparitions around disappeared one by one; the lingering gunpowder scent in the air dissipated with the evening wind.
The lamp god's golden-yellow figure drifted to Rexton's side, speaking in a flat tone:
"You successfully deceived a 'conspirator'."
