Chapter 703: Traces of the Dark Wolf

~8 min read 1,470 words

Having a personal old man with you is comfortable; even when it comes to digesting demonic pills, someone helps figure out a way.

Muttering to himself twice, Lei Kedun brushed the letter, and the characters spontaneously floated, forming a three-part honorific: "Guardian of Knowledge and Mystery, Ferryman of All Deaths, the Great Pulak·Aiges."

He casually tossed the letter into the spirit realm; under the spirit's drag, the paper spontaneously returned to the book messenger and was then sent to the place where Lun Na De was.

After replying to Lun Na De, Lei Kedun went straight to the underground of the Bo Shi Jiao Tang in A Sa Ke City, intending to rest briefly and also plan Luo Sai Er's resurrection.

Just as he sat down, Lei Kedun felt some of his past information being pulled out of history by someone.

"No wonder the 'Ancient Scholar' requires a close bond with the other party when summoning a historical projection; if it's an unfamiliar person bothering you for any reason, I'd definitely send a Mysterious Reappearance Grand Gift Pack."

While he murmured, thick emerald pea vines continuously dripped from the ceiling, quickly engulfing his body.

Shen Qi Zhi Di, the outskirts of Ju Ren Wang Ting.

Lei Kedun's historical projection suddenly became vivid; he curiously surveyed the surroundings, his gaze lingering briefly on the frozen Ju Ren Wang Ting under dusk. Though it wasn't his first time seeing Ju Ren Wang Ting, the scene still amazed him.

Retracting his gaze, Lei Kedun turned to Ke Lai En and asked, "Calculate the time; you should have just revived, so why are you so eager to find me?"

Ke Lai En replied calmly, "Let your historical projection take me away from here; the movement speed in information flood form is much faster than me relying on secret companion and teleportation."

"Transport?" Lei Kedun sighed a bit, then added, "Next time give me a heads‑up, and I won't have to project my consciousness here."

As he spoke, his hand was already on Ke Lai En's shoulder, helping him transform into the information flood form.

A terrifyingly massive information flood, composed of wave after wave of tangled data, surged in an illusory shape toward the north of Ju Ren Wang Ting, vanishing from the horizon in an instant.

Before the historical projection reached its time limit, Lei Kedun led Ke Lai En to a wasteland north of Ju Ren Wang Ting.

All around were dried riverbeds leaving scars on the ground, and a city with a deep‑black, hazy outline, shrouded in thin mist and utterly silent, rose ahead.

Compared to a city, it resembled a specimen frozen in endless darkness, eerily quiet, exuding a terrifying atmosphere.

Through information interaction, he could clearly see the city's interior: in the slowly dissipating mist, people clad in linen robes or beast‑skin garments lay scattered across the streets, as if in a moment of ordinary life they suddenly lost their lives and collapsed on the spot.

Retracting his gaze, Lei Kedun looked at Ke Lai En, smiling, "An abandoned secret companion city; you should know what that signifies."

Ke Lai En nodded lightly, murmuring, "The ritual required to ascend to Mysterious Secret Servant will occur here; only that Wu An Mo Lang remains, hope it hasn't succeeded yet."

Before he finished speaking, Lei Kedun's historical projection hit its time limit and spontaneously faded away nearby.

Ke Lai En let out a long sigh, summoned his own historical projection, and his true body slipped into the historical mist, awakening his consciousness onto the projection.

Then he reached out again, pulling Lei Kedun's historical projection from a historical fissure; after a brief delay, Lei Kedun transmitted his consciousness through.

He looked at the Ke Lai En before him, now a historical projection, and said evenly,

"Actually you don't need to be so cautious; aside from corpses and monsters, there's no danger here."

While speaking, his hand rested on Ke Lai En's shoulder, helping him shift into the information flood form, passing through the thin mist into the long‑abandoned city interior.

With the active information form, Ke Lai En quickly surveyed the surroundings.

Just as Lei Kedun said, this place had long been abandoned; the fallen humans and monsters showed signs of decay.

Some sat on chairs, some leaned against walls, some sat on the ground, even playing bone flutes as a diviner's intuition. He could distinctly sense the vitality that existed here before it became a secret companion city; they abruptly froze at a certain moment, endlessly replaying what they did in life until abandoned, becoming a relic in the darkness.

Under Lei Kedun's guidance, Ke Lai En examined the entire city carefully, eventually arriving at a relatively intact church.

He surveyed the surroundings while murmuring,

"A city made purely of secret companions, yet because there are few living beings in Shen Qi Zhi Di, it's hard to generate enough interaction, making this ritual difficult."

"'Wu An Mo Lang' abandoning this place seems hasty; who is it evading? A Meng? Or the angels active here?" Lei Kedun didn't answer Ke Lai En's question; he walked to the eight‑legged wolf statue ahead, touched it, and countless information streams surged in his eyes like a vast galaxy.

A moment later, Lei Kedun withdrew his hand, saying helplessly, "It has altered the statue a bit, making it impossible to trace the past through it."

Ke Lai En nodded lightly, unsurprised, stared at the 'Wu An Mo Lang' statue pondering, then asked,

"Can we infer, from the material of the carved statue, where Wu An Mo Lang previously hid?"

"Although I've been to wondrous places, I'm not familiar enough to know the mineral distribution here inside out."

"Why didn't you ask me?"

Just as Lei Kedun finished speaking, a familiar voice rang nearby, coming from a corpse lying on the street outside the church.

The corpse that had been on the ground stiffened, stood up, holding a single eyepiece of unknown origin, and placed it over its right eye.

A Meng looked at the spot where Ke Lai En had vanished beside Lei Kedun, laughed, and said,

"He ran away really fast."

"Aren't you in a hurry to leave? As a mere historical projection you can't oppose me, and I can even exploit your link with the Ancient Scholar to create errors, placing myself right beside him."

Lei Kedun shrugged, replying evenly,

"If you could do it, you wouldn't be saying so much to me."

Before he finished, his historical projection vanished, and Ke Lai En withdrew the maintenance of that projection.

On the Southern Continent, amid a verdant forest woven from countless pea vines, Lei Kedun leisurely opened his eyes.

He glanced around briefly, then quipped, "Really careful, instantly terminating the maintenance of my historical projection."

"Fine, let him play on his own; I also need to prepare Luo Sai Er's resurrection."

As the words fell, his body instantly dematerialized, breaking into wave after wave of massive pure information flow, surging like a flood out of the verdant forest.

In the northern Mist Sea, the 'Dawn' quietly left the Southern Continent's coastal battlefield, sailing on the fog‑filled sea.

In the captain's cabin above deck, Luo Sai Er, in a fairly good mood, leaned against the bulging window, watching the slowly dissipating mist and said, "Because of those Weather Mages, the Mist Sea hasn't seen sunlight for a long time; staying in such an environment for too long causes all kinds of psychological issues."

"There's a sequence called 'Psychologist'," Lei Kedun continued, pausing, then changed the subject:

"Have you thought of your honorific? You just became the Black Emperor and were killed; you probably didn't have time to prepare for this."

Luo Sai Er nodded lightly and said:

"I had already decided before the ascension, but I'm no longer the administrator of Yin Di Si, so the previous honorific needs some adjustments."

"Creator of Rules, Shadow of Order, Supreme Emperor."

During their conversation, the Dawn's speed gradually slowed, and Bernadette's figure emerged from the verdant pea vines.

She calmly looked out the window and said succinctly:

"We've arrived; this island belongs to Fenebote, it's small, lacks fixed shipping lanes, and apart from coastal fishing boats, few approach."

As she spoke, the doors and windows of the captain's cabin all swung open on their own; the monocular telescope sitting on the desk twisted its body oddly, leapt into mid‑air, and each end of the telescope grew an eye—one eye gazed toward the distant island, while the other projected the scene above.

After observing the island ahead and the surrounding waters for a moment from the ship, Beiernadai nodded calmly and said:

"There is no one staying on the island, and there are no ships, special spirits, or strange creatures in the nearby waters."
