Chapter 84: Summoning a Messenger

~8 min read 1,580 words

"Mr. Huang, does this library have a name?" Rekton asked with some curiosity.

After so many days had passed, Rekton only now realized he still did not know the library's name, and Mr. Huang had never mentioned it either.

"It has no name. Just call it the library. There is only this one library in the Spirit World, so the reference is quite clear. Even if other libraries appear in the Spirit World in the future, this one will still have the highest priority." Mr. Huang's answer was somewhat beyond Rekton's expectations.

"Huh? A reference? This place can also serve as part of a ritual? And don't you already have a library?" Rekton asked with great curiosity.

"Yes. I am already the librarian of this library, so the library I previously established was naturally dissolved." Mr. Huang explained in a gentle tone.

After learning more specific details about the library from Mr. Huang, Rekton realized that as a projection of the God of Knowledge's divine kingdom, this library already possessed symbolic significance in mysticism, representing the transmission and guardianship of knowledge.

This library could even serve as the object of invocation when crafting certain charms. As the knowledge collected within the library increased, the mystical effects it possessed would also strengthen.

"You came here today for more than just these matters, I assume?" Mr. Huang seemed to have noticed Rekton's hesitation and spoke up to remind him.

"Mm." Rekton nodded hesitantly.

Mr. Huang did not rush him. He quietly watched Rekton, waiting for what would come next.

"I'd like to ask, could the Church arrange an identity and a mission for me so I can go out to sea? The Knowledge Keeper potion—I should be able to digest it quickly with the library. I want to go to the ocean to learn more about Beyonders and prepare for the role-playing of the Scholar in advance." After thinking for a moment, Rekton chose to state part of his reason for wanting to go to sea.

"To the sea? The chaos on the ocean will exceed your imagination. If you insist, I can assign you a mission in my personal capacity." Mr. Huang pondered for a moment, then gave his answer.

Rekton was stunned for a moment, not expecting Mr. Huang to propose assigning him a mission in his personal name. He remembered Mr. Huang had said before that He was an unofficial member of the Church of Knowledge, but from the looks of it now, this unofficial member had considerable authority.

"What is the mission?" Rekton suppressed the thoughts in his mind and asked curiously.

"Blood Admiral Senior, a member of the Indulgence Faction within the secret organization Rose School." Mr. Huang revealed information about a pirate admiral.

"The target is the Rose School?" Rekton asked curiously.

"No, it is the Primordial Moon." Mr. Huang shook his head and said.

"Uh... I don't think I'm qualified for this mission. I'm only a Sequence 7." Rekton's mouth twitched, and he said helplessly.

Regarding the Primordial Moon, Rekton was not sure whether He was an alternate identity of the Mother of Depravity or the Mother Tree of Desire. After all, the Mother Tree of Desire did indeed possess a portion of the Moon Pathway's Sequence 1 characteristics, but one thing was clear: both of these Outer Deities had a certain degree of control over the identity of the Primordial Moon.

"Maybe the sense of fragmentation of the Primordial Moon is caused by the Mother Tree of Desire and the Mother of Depravity taking turns using the same account!" Rekton muttered to himself inwardly.

Regardless of whose alternate identity the Primordial Moon was, it was not something a mere Sequence 7 like Rekton could provoke, not even a Sequence 2 Sage.

"There's no need for you to actually do anything. Just being able to scout out the Primordial Moon's status and information will suffice. Of course, it would be even better if you could obtain that portion of the Beauty Goddess's characteristics." Mr. Huang explained.

Rekton looked at Mr. Huang with a face full of helplessness, waiting for what would come next. If it was just contacting some people who believed in the Primordial Moon, Rekton could still accept that, but once it involved the Primordial Moon itself, it was not something Rekton could get involved in.

"This is a long-term mission. You can wait until you become a Saint before beginning the investigation, but you can accept this mission now, then take on a new identity and venture out to sea." Mr. Huang offered a rationale that Rekton found very hard to refuse.

"Can I know why the Primordial Moon needs to be investigated?" Rekton was genuinely curious about this question.

The matter of the Primordial Moon should be of greater concern to the Blood Clan and the Earth Church, so why would the Church of Knowledge also be concerned about this issue?

"Bargaining chips and allies, as well as... some preparations." Mr. Huang's answer was somewhat vague.

Rekton did not press further. Though Mr. Huang had not said much, Rekton could deduce a few things based on the information he already knew.

"I accept this mission." After a moment of contemplation, Rekton gave his answer.

"Mm. What do you need? I will advance part of your payment in advance, including the Scholar potion you'll need later—if you haven't gathered the materials yourself, that can be counted in as well." Mr. Huang was not surprised by Rekton's choice and proceeded to ask what compensation Rekton wanted advanced.

"A new identity, and I also need a Sealed Artifact suitable for me to use in direct combat." Rekton did not hesitate, stating the demands he had long since decided on.

"Agreed. Someone will deliver them to you within the next couple of days." Mr. Huang nodded and said in a gentle voice.

After finishing his discussion with Mr. Huang about the matter of heading to sea, Rekton left the library.

His consciousness returning to his own body, Rekton saw that the spells he had transcribed earlier and the book of poetry were still sitting on his desk.

"Hm? The originals are still here with me, so that library materialized them directly through my memory? Why does it feel a bit like the operation of historical projection?" Rekton murmured to himself.

"How am I supposed to explain this to Father and Mother! A child who has never been far from home suddenly leaving his hometown to venture out onto the ocean—no matter how you think about it, they won't agree to this!" Thinking that he still had his parents to persuade, Rekton's face fell.

No matter how he communicated with his parents, going to sea was a must. What Rekton was more worried about was that if his parents disagreed, his source of funding would very likely be cut off. When away from home, having no money was the biggest problem.

Besides his parents' side, there was also the Earth Church that he needed to go inform. Fortunately, the grafting experiments had recently been on the right track. Rekton felt that even if he took Tu Ba Ge away, the impact would not be too great.

"Perhaps I need a messenger too, otherwise it won't be easy to communicate after I leave here." Rekton murmured.

Recalling the incantations for summoning a messenger that he knew, Rekton felt he could give it a try, just like Klein—perhaps a Spirit World creature willing to become his messenger would come to apply.

Rekton had long known the ritual for summoning a messenger. For a master of ritual magic, this was not difficult at all.

He rummaged through his room for the necessary materials, then set up the messenger-summoning ritual according to the arrangement in his memory.

Rekton took a step back and began chanting the incantation to summon a messenger: "I summon in my name: the spirit that wanders amidst illusion, a friendly creature that can be commanded, a unique being willing to become my messenger."

As the incantation was spoken, the light in the room began to grow faintly dim. The candle flames instantly turned a ghostly green, and the firelight began to flicker, as if a cold, dank wind had started blowing through the room.

Rekton actively opened his Eye of Secrets and nervously surveyed the space where the room overlapped with the Spirit World, guarding against unknown changes.

According to Mr. Azik's explanation in the original work, this method of summoning a messenger carried a certain degree of danger, because there was no guarantee that the Spirit World creature attracted by this incantation would not be hostile toward him.

Rekton, like Klein, was betting that his luck was good enough that a messenger would deliver itself to his door.

A massive shadow suddenly materialized in the surrounding Spirit World space. A damp, fishy stench of the sea hit him in the face, and Rekton instinctively covered his nose.

Though he had not yet clearly seen what kind of Spirit World creature his incantation had attracted, Rekton had already eliminated it in his mind.

Rekton only saw a slippery tentacle trying to pass through the passage created by the incantation. Before the massive figure could fully emerge, it was struck down by a descending beam of brass-colored light from above.

A brass-colored book with intricate patterns on its surface fell through the passage created by the incantation and landed in front of Rekton.
