Chapter 93: Pas Meow

~9 min read 1,698 words

Lei Kedun, staying by Jia Deliya's side, got to know most of the crew on the Future, including the "Bloodless One" Xi Si Dao Er, who rose directly from ordinary person to Sequence Six.

Lei Kedun thought that, compared with the lucky ones of the Monster Path, someone like Xi was the real lucky one. No, a lucky person of this caliber should be called a winner!

"When you face Xi, you have a different feeling. Did you know him before?" Jia Deliya suddenly asked while walking on the deck of the Future.

"Huh? I don't know him, just know some info. When I see him, I think of two unlucky duds of the Fate Path who have never been able to advance."

Lei Kedun hadn't expected Jia Deliya's observation to be so sharp; compared with her, he really didn't resemble an extraordinary of the Spy Path at all.

"Unlucky duds of the Fate Path?"

Jia Deliya was very interested in Lei Kedun's description. Walking on the path that symbolizes fate, one could still be called an unlucky dud.

"Yeah, after all, the talents of each path are in other paths, except for thieves!"

Lei Kedun suddenly got interested and made a small joke in front of her under the star above.

"Hm? Why do you say that?" Jia Deliya was very interested in Lei Kedun's words.

"Haha, I'll tell you when I get a chance to meet them in the future!"

Lei Kedun laughed and ended the topic; continuing to discuss it would probably not be a good idea.

"I hope you'll still remember this later; this is your room. If you need anything, you can go directly to Fu Lan Ke." Jia Deliya stopped, pointing to a room ahead.

After leading Lei Kedun to his room, Jia Deliya turned and left.

Lei Kedun looked around the room; it wasn't large, but the facilities were complete, more than enough for a person and a rabbit's daily life.

After closing the door, Lei Kedun placed the leather suitcase he was holding on the table against the wall, took out a ceremonial silver pen, candles and other items, and began setting up the ritual.

Because of this kind of ritual, Lei Kedun would probably set it up often, so he simply didn't erect a spiritual wall to block outside observation, which could also increase Jia Deliya's trust in him.

This ritual was derived by Lei Kedun from modifications of the sacrifice and granting ritual, inspired by the earlier act of Mr. Huang, in the form of a raven, taking items from the spirit realm.

Lei Kedun, through his connection with the deep‑realm library in the spirit world, used it as a storage place for his belongings.

Of course, Lei Kedun had already given Mr. Huang a heads‑up, so the latter wouldn't discard the items Lei stored in the library as trash.

Using ritual magic, Lei Kedun quickly established a link with the deep‑realm library, then retrieved a pile of books and a suitcase from there.

When the ritual was about to finish, Lei Kedun seemed to hear Mr. Huang's voice from the library side.

"The next exam will cover knowledge of spirit‑realm creatures; you should study!"

Lei Kedun was stunned; it seemed his study progress was so poor that Mr. Huang couldn't bear it and directly set the exam scope for him.

In the captain's cabin on the other side, specks of starlight faded from Jia Deliya's eyes, her gaze now tinged with curiosity and surprise.

She had already noticed when Lei Kedun began the ritual, but because of questions about his background, she didn't interrupt; instead, through her own link with the Future, she remotely observed what's happening on Lei Kedun's side.

When she saw Lei Kedun use a strange ritual to pull a pile of books and a suitcase from the spirit realm, Jia Deliya was taken aback; it was her first time seeing the spirit realm used as a storage place for items.

Jia Deliya was very interested in this peculiar ritual magic. However, seeing the stack of books Lei Kedun produced, she thought he was about to study, so she didn't go to disturb him for the time being.

"In the Knowledge Church, can an extraordinary of Sequence Seven still fail an exam? Extraordinary ones of the Reader Path should have stronger learning ability than Spy Path practitioners without knowledge, right?"

Jia Deliya muttered to herself, without thinking further.

While sorting books in the room, Lei Kedun ran into a new problem: the books he prepared contained little knowledge about the spirit realm, and even fewer introductions to spirit‑realm creatures.

"Mr. Huang can't be using these books to set my exam content, can he!" Lei Kedun mused conspiratorially in his mind.

"There's no choice but to borrow from the captain; as an extraordinary of the Spy Path, Jia Deliya should have plenty of books, right?" After thinking of a solution, Lei Kedun was less worried about the exam.

He sorted and categorized the books retrieved from the spirit realm, pulling out the three that dealt with spirit‑realm knowledge.

When flipping through the books about the spirit realm, Lei Kedun suddenly thought of a problem: books covering spirit‑realm knowledge carry a certain spiritual contamination and can't be read for extended periods.

"In this state, I can't master a large amount of spirit‑realm knowledge in such a short time on my own; even though the spirit‑realm sorcerer system has some resistance, it would be great if someone could read it for me."

Lei Kedun helplessly raked his hair, feeling that Mr. Huang's make‑up exam was giving him a hard time.

"Boss, go to the evening party! Fu Lan Ke said there's a welcome ceremony for new boarders today! Lots of tasty food!"

Tu Ba Ge rushed in, interrupting Lei Kedun's thoughts.

"A welcome ceremony? There's that too?"

Lei Kedun was puzzled; he thought it was more like the Future's crew wanting to party, using a welcome ceremony as an excuse.

"Yeah, yeah, let's go quickly; Fu Lan Ke took a lot of fruit and mushrooms up to the deck!" Tu Ba Ge turned around, tugging Lei Kedun's pant leg.

"The ingredients Fu Lan Ke provided?" Lei Kedun suddenly didn't want to attend this so‑called welcome ceremony.

Although Fu Lan Ke's food wouldn't kill anyone, it was indeed a bit hard to swallow.

In the end, Lei Kedun was still pulled out by Tu Ba Ge; after all, it was under the slogan "welcome newcomers", and as a newcomer he had to attend.

On the deck were many tables cobbled together, their surfaces holding rum in barrels, some seafood, and a few fruits; the Future's crew had also brought several stools, and a large, scattered group of pirates sat on the deck drinking and chatting.

It looked disorderly, but the atmosphere was great.

"Yo, our new crew member has arrived! Come on, come on, have a drink!"

Nina was the first to notice Lei Kedun walking with Tu Ba Ge, and she hurried forward, thrusting a cup full of drink into Lei Kedun's hand.

"Special dried fish!" A somewhat familiar voice sounded behind Nina.

Lei Kedun sidestepped two steps and saw the figure blocked by Nina: a pitch‑black cat with fur as dark as night, a red collar around its neck bearing a tiny fish‑bone pendant.

"Pas Meow! Did you and Elisa go out to sea as pirates?" Lei Kedun looked puzzled.

He didn't expect that the black cat Nina mentioned was indeed Pas, but becoming a pirate didn't fit a vampire's style at all, especially in someone else's pirate crew.

"It's Pas, not Meow!"

Pas clutched a piece of indistinguishable dried fish and walked over, handing it to the equally extraordinary animal Tu Ba Ge.

"I got separated from Elisa at a port, and now I've joined the Star Pirates!" Pas said dejectedly.

But Pas quickly changed tone: "Are you here to bring me the special dried fish?"

It was a bit sad about getting lost, but not too much.

It was clear that it was doing well in the Star Pirates, almost forgetting its master, or perhaps already its former master.

Lei Kedun was at a loss for words; compared to its master, this cat really knew how to make a living!

"There are no fish crackers, because I never received any letters; your portion of fish crackers has already been fed to the rabbit." Lei Ke Dun casually made up.

Tu Ba Ge carefully thought it over, discovered it had never eaten fish crackers. It looked at its boss with a surprised expression, suspecting the boss kept other rabbits.

"You even lie to cats! Stupid rabbits don't eat meat!"

Pa Si completely did not believe Lei Ke Dun's words.

But the next moment it was slapped away by Tu Ba Ge with a paw, Tu Ba Ge took a toy cane, pretentiously propping it on the ground, putting on a gentleman's appearance.

"Stupid black cat, how dare you say rabbits are stupid!"

Tu Ba Ge glanced at Pa Si, disdainfully said.

"Meow!" Pa Si let out a dignified cat call.

Tu Ba Ge, who had just been putting on a gentleman's appearance, instantly went weak in the legs, then cowardly ran to Lei Ke Dun's back and clung to his pant leg.

Lei Ke Dun noticed that Pa Si's call was more imposing than when it had encountered the clown before; it seemed this cat was really doing well at sea.

"Has your arbitrator's magic potion been fully digested?"

Lei Ke Dun stopped Pa Si, who still wanted to fight Tu Ba Ge, and asked curiously.

"Yeah, after joining the Star Sea Pirates, it was digested not long after!"

Pa Si saw that Tu Ba Ge was scared into a cowardly ball by its meow, and thus no longer wanted to continue teaching that overconfident rabbit a lesson.

"The party has already started; since you know these two extraordinary creatures, you will be responsible for looking after them! Drinking too much easily leads to drunkenness, whether person or cat!"

Jia De Li Ya walked out of the captain's cabin at some point.
