Chapter 172: The Siege of the Nest Begins
After Ma Lailaiyin confirmed everyone had arrived at the center of the drill ground, he led the group toward the giant nest without a word; the players who wanted to participate in the assault on the giant nest followed behind, each driving their own Tricycle.
Before long, the players heard all sorts of clamor coming from the native army ahead; it was clear that the vanguard had already begun fighting the Magma Cave ant-men of the giant nest.
However, because the passage was narrow, the bored players felt they had no chance to join the fray and began complaining on the World Channel.
Zhu Zhiquan leaned against the vehicle window, wiping his weapon while occasionally glancing outside.
Zhao Yuxin traded for a watermelon on the Trading Channel and said to Zhu Zhiquan, "Ajiu, since they don't need us right now, why not relax? Come help me cut the watermelon."
Zhu Zhiquan took another look outside, confirmed there was no danger, and prepared to take the watermelon.
Suddenly, the passage shook violently, and immediately after, something began moving in the frozen soil around Zhao Yuxin's Bat Wing Ear.
"It's a Ghost Horn Ant! Ajiu, over there!" Zhao Yuxin pointed to the frozen soil wall to the side, and the watermelon in her hand dropped straight to the ground, smashing into bits.
Zhu Zhiquan picked up his Xuangang Spear and quickly got out of the vehicle, just as a Ghost Horn Ant burst out from the wall.
Before the Ghost Horn Ant could make a move, Zhu Zhiquan thrust his spear into its skull, killing it in one blow.
At the same time, another Ghost Horn Ant burst out from a spot in front of them, and some players who couldn't react in time died miserably under its sharp mandibles.
Nearby players had just aimed their firepower at this Ghost Horn Ant when more Ghost Horn Ants burst out from other parts of the passage. Fortunately, the players participating in the nest assault were mostly elites from their respective Player Groups, and they quickly organized a counterattack.
The Ghost Horn Ants, having met with resistance, let out wails but still launched attacks at the nearby players.
While the Ghost Horn Ants were engaged with the players, a group of low-level Magma Cave ant-men rushed out from the tunnel and quickly seized a portion of the passage.
"Damn it, taste this!" Sun Zi jumped onto the roof of a Tricycle, transformed one hand into a grenade launcher, and fired a shell at the Ant Swarm closest to him.
Boom!
The massive explosion blew up the Magma Cave ant-men guarding the tunnel entrance, but new Magma Cave ant-men soon crawled out from the tunnel entrance, preparing to reoccupy their original positions.
But the players, having reacted, would not give them that chance; all sorts of innate skills were thrown around as if they cost nothing, killing large numbers of Magma Cave ant-men.
Yet the Magma Cave ant-men were no pushovers; the mages among them immediately unleashed various spells in retaliation, giving the soldier ants a chance to engage the players in melee combat, and for a time, the two sides fought so fiercely that the entire passage suffered a slight collapse.
During the stalemate between the two sides, the surviving Ghost Horn Ants burrowed back into the frozen soil, and before long, a new batch of Magma Cave ant-men followed the tunnel to join the battlefield.
However, at this moment, the soldiers of Jiading Cheng also arrived to assist the players in resisting the Ant Swarm.
Meanwhile, at the Jiading Cheng encampment, players who had not joined the main force in assaulting the nest were watching the news on the World Channel to keep track of the front-line situation and provide commentary.
Wave-Breaking Group Reporter: "Latest news! Our players are engaged in a fierce clash with the native army and the Magma Cave ant-men. Currently, the Magma Cave ant-men's Ghost Horn Ants are relying on their digging advantage to continuously output troops for the Magma Cave ant-men!"
Yangguang Xujie: "Everyone, don't be afraid. It's not just those ants that can dig holes. My Green Leaf Burrowing Vine has been planted in batches and can be used for a strategic transfer if everyone can't hold on!"
Star-Chasing Brigade Envoy: "Latest news, I learned from talking to a native soldier during the battle that the native army at the very front has already engaged the main force of the Magma Cave ant-men.
Among them, the Magma Cave ant-men have dispatched at least five Magma Cave Ant Generals and two Magma Cave Great Generals! And the native army has already sent multiple experts to pin them down!"
………………
Inside a tent, two players and three dyed-haired natives sat at a table.
One of the relatively short players looked at the constantly scrolling information on the World Channel and couldn't help but sigh, saying, "I wonder if the Magma Cave ant-men have cast any skills on that stretch of road; I hope there won't be a situation where they can't dig holes!"
The player next to him took a sip of wine and comforted him: "Oh~ my dear cousin, please have some confidence in them. If they lose, we definitely won't be able to reach the surface before nine o'clock tonight.
So please don't be so pessimistic; we should pray piously for them here so they can successfully return in triumph."
The natives at the same table looked at them in confusion, and the one with green hair asked, "Hey! You two have been either spacing out or saying strange things since you sat here. Can you tell us what you're talking about?"
The cousin took another sip of wine and explained, "Actually, we're talking about the situation on the front lines."
"The situation?" The natives looked at each other, and then the green-haired one continued, "Can you tell us in detail?"
So the two explained how they, as players, understood the front-line situation, which made the three natives feel very curious.
The yellow-haired native said, "Is that so? Then this life of yours must be very cool!"
Cool? If they had a choice, whoever wanted to be a player in this game could be one; they, for one, didn't want to keep playing like this anymore.
Just as they were about to tell these natives about the hardships of being a player, a clamor suddenly came from outside, accompanied by intermittent roars and explosions.
"What's going on?" The three natives stood up curiously and looked out the window.
But the two players had already rushed out of the tent, shocked by the scene before them, and were so frightened they drew the Bone Maces at their waists.
"What is it? What's happening outside?" the red-haired native asked.
"It's the Magma Cave ant-men! They've come to raid our base!" the cousin shouted as he rushed out of the tent and smashed down at a Ghost Horn Ant.
"What!" The three natives were so scared they each looked for cover to hide, but the tent was only so big; where could they possibly hide?
Soon they locked their eyes on the space under the table, so they scrambled to crawl under it, hoping to conceal their figures and avoid being discovered.
The cousin found it amusing to watch them fight over a table that couldn't even hide one person, then posted the news of the Magma Cave ant-men raiding the base on the World Channel before grabbing his weapon and rushing toward a Magma Cave ant-man.
Some players acting as field reporters saw the news of the Magma Cave ant-men raiding the base immediately and reported it to their respective Regiment Leaders or teammates.
"Ajiu, the natives' encampment has been raided. Will we be caught in a pincer attack?" Zhao Yuxin found Zhu Zhiquan immediately after seeing the message and explained the situation to him.
Zhu Zhiquan unleashed Phoenix Cloud Fire to kill a large number of Magma Cave ant-men before slowly speaking: "You should be telling the City Lord."
Zhao Yuxin nodded slightly and said, "That makes sense, but I probably don't need to notify the City Lord; I'd better go back and create more plants to help." She then returned to the carriage to prepare to create more plants.
