Chapter 211: Arriving at the Yang Family
Being stimulated by the two words 'travel', I and Pangzi only then realized we weren't really here to play this time. Because the Masked Beast matter caused a delay, I also slept in the hospital for several days, so naturally our schedule was delayed a lot.
But why hasn't QingSongShu called? Logically, if he arrived at the surnamed Yang wealthy merchant's home before us, he should have called Pangzi.
Thinking this, I voiced the doubt in my heart. It would have been fine not to ask, but once I did, Pangzi's face changed instantly. He trembled as he pulled out that old mobile phone from his bag. At a glance, his face turned deathly pale, because the phone had no power.
It seems QingSongShu also doesn't know how many times he called Pangzi, but Pangzi, this blockhead, kept playing around and forgot to check his phone.
"Pangzi, hurry up and call QingSongShu back!" I urged Pangzi, who quickly removed a large battery from Sun Miao's phone, installed it on his own phone, and dialed QingSongShu's number.
I don't know what Pangzi and QingSongShu said on the phone, but after hanging up I saw Pangzi's expression relax considerably; it seems QingSongShu didn't scold Pangzi.
That makes sense—parents who haven't heard from their child for days would have turned their anger into worry; how could they still scold their own child?
"My dad is already here; he told us to wrap up things here quickly, then rush over to meet him!" Pangzi hung up the phone and exhaled with lingering fear.
"Since that's the case, we shouldn't delay; let's set off now!" I acknowledged Pangzi, then turned and clasped my hands toward Yao Wenju, explaining: "Brother Wenju, I and Pangzi still have matters to attend to, so we'll skip this meal. Another day, next time we will surely not disappoint your kindness."
Yao Wenju smiled understandingly, said it was fine, then asked us: "You're in such a hurry—what are you rushing to do?"
I hummed and nodded: "I and Pangzi still need to rush to meet his father; because of the Masked Beast matter, we've already been delayed a long time. Now we need to pick up the pace."
Yao Wenju merely gave an 'oh' and didn't ask further.
"Then go ahead; next time we have a chance we'll eat together." Yao Wenju had just taken two steps when he turned back and asked us: "Oh, right—I have a car and also a plane; would you like me to give you a ride?"
I and Pangzi couldn't help but look delighted, saying this was naturally good, simply something we could only wish for.
After Yao Wenju had Sun Miao prepare the car, Pangzi and I didn't stand on ceremony and hastily got into Sun Miao's car.
Sun Miao drove the Audi, carrying us all the way toward the place Pangzi had mentioned. After four hours of bumping along, Sun Miao turned around and asked Pangzi: "Exactly where are you headed?"
Because Pangzi only knew roughly a county name, not which village or household, he wasn't clear either. He used the mobile phone to call QingSongShu, but QingSongShu didn't answer.
I rolled my eyes and mocked him as unreliable. Pangzi didn't retort, but with a dejected expression he scratched his head, saying he also didn't know—just that it was a wealthy household named Yang Shouren.
"Yang Shouren, are you sure?" Sun Miao turned his head and asked Pangzi again in surprise.
Pangzi nodded firmly: "No mistake, it's Yang Shouren."
Sun Miao gave an 'oh', saying he understood, and would now take us there. He then restarted the car and turned onto another direction.
From this, it seems Sun Miao also knows Yang Shouren—just hearing the name, he knows how to get to his home.
"Little Sun, do you know Yang Shouren?" I asked curiously from the back seat.
Sun Miao chuckled: "Yang Shouren has some business dealings with the Yao family; since I work for Yao Zong, I've also come into contact with the Yangs. Moreover, Yang Shouren is quite famous around here—almost nobody doesn't know him."
It seems Yang Shouren is even wealthier than I imagined.
Because the journey was rather far, I slumped in the back seat and fell asleep. However, the rural roads were also bumpy, and there was nothing to lean on in the car, so my sleep was extremely uneasy.
There was no choice; I could only lean on Pangzi's shoulder, tilting my head against it, and found a relatively comfortable position to sleep.
After jolting along for an unknown length of time, Sun Miao stopped the car in an old-fashioned manor, woke us both, and said this was Yang Shouren's home.
Upon hearing that we had arrived at Yang Shouren's home, Pangzi and I hurriedly opened the car doors and stepped out. As my foot had just left the door while half my body was still in the car, I turned and waved at Sun Miao: "Little Sun, thanks for the trouble this time; next time we meet I'll treat you to a meal."
Sun Miao laughed politely: "Not at all; if we get another chance, it should be me treating you to a meal."
"You go ahead and get busy; I'll drive back now—there's still a lot to handle at the venue!" Sun Miao laughed as he closed the car door, and amid our waving farewells he turned the car around and drove off.
After Sun Miao's car drove away, Pangzi and I hurried forward and knocked open the gate of the Yang family manor.
Coming out to greet us was an elderly steward over fifty. Though his hair was white, his spirit was good; he stood straight and asked us vigorously: "You two young people, where are you from, and what brings you to the Yang family?"
"Sir, it's like this: my father is Wang Qingsong; a few days ago he came to assess the feng shui for Mr. Yang, and I've come to find my father!" Pangzi frankly told the steward his relationship with QingSongShu.
Upon hearing this, the steward looked at Pangzi in astonishment and said: "So you're Master Wang's son—please come in quickly." He then opened the gate and ushered us inside.
After the steward ushered us into the Yang family manor, he said: "Two masters, what a coincidence—Master Wang has just gone with our lord to the rear mountain to inspect the ancestral tomb. Would you two like to rest first? I'll arrange guest rooms for you."
"Oh, he's gone to check feng shui? Where is it? Do you know the way? Can you take us there now?" Upon hearing that QingSongShu had begun his geomancy, I didn't want to miss this learning opportunity.
When the steward heard we wanted to go to the rear mountain to find QingSongShu and company, he hesitated at first. But after Pangzi said we were going to help QingSongShu with the geomancy, the steward quickly nodded, gave us a cup of water, and then led us to the rear mountain without stopping, seeming even more eager than we were.
This steward is indeed loyal; although he doesn't understand feng shui, as soon as he hears it concerns the master's feng shui, he immediately becomes extremely nervous.
The Yang family ancestral tomb lies a full kilometer from the manor. Pangzi and I went there in a car driven by the Yang family's chauffeur, accompanied by the old steward who was guiding us. However, the steward only led us to the foot of the mountain, pointed out a direction, and said that once we reached the mountainside we could see the Yang family ancestral tomb.
When I asked him why he didn't come up with us, he said this is the old Yang family's main grounds; servants have no right to go up. Apart from feng shui masters and the family's direct line, without the master's permission, no one may ascend the ancestral tomb to desecrate the Yang ancestors.
One must admit that, even though many years have passed since reform and opening-up, some feudal ideas—such as the notion of exalted position and lowly status—still linger, especially in the elders' minds. From the retro-style pavilions and towers of the Yang manor, one can see that this Yang family, in ancient times at least before the Republic, was certainly no ordinary household.
Thinking this, Pangzi and I didn't make things difficult for the steward regarding his guidance. We gathered our belongings and hurried together up to the mountainside.
Having just climbed over a small rise, a gentle breeze blew, and Pangzi and I instantly felt our hearts and spleens relax, our whole body suffused with coolness.
"What a fine place!" Even though we hadn't reached the destination, the oncoming wind already indicated that this location was extraordinary.
In our line of work, the land is like a person, divided into essence, energy, and spirit. The regional airflow is the spiritual qi of a feng shui site. Where feng shui is good, the incoming breeze always leaves one feeling invigorated; if it is a place of dire evil and killing, you might not even have set foot there before your mind feels suffocated.
The surrounding environment was a lush green, verdant as far as the eye could see—clearly a place teeming with life. After crossing the hills, Pangzi and I could already see several people standing far ahead on the other side of the mountain.
With Pangzi's and my eyesight, we could see clearly that one of them, an elderly man dressed in a Tang-style outfit, was Pangzi's father—and also my QingSongShu.
