Chapter 339

~8 min read 1,479 words

One couldn't urinate, the other's urine wasn't that of a child. With no alternative, I, under the neighbor's perverted gaze, snatched his son's chamber pot used for urination.

After coming back, I hastily flung the chamber pot onto the old woman's head on the ground.

The filth in the chamber pot poured out completely, evenly, all over the old woman's head.

"Ah——" the old woman let out a piercing scream, glared ferociously at me, and angrily said, "My master won't let you off."

Afterwards, under everyone's gaze, it turned into a pool of blood, mixed with several clumps; I looked closely and saw they were several tiny red scorpions.

The host was killed, and these few tiny scorpions were tumbling in the blood, panicking.

Yang Qiye shouted angrily, and before they could flee, he stomped hard on the ground, sending the blood water flying and scattering feces and urine everywhere.

This process was extremely obscene and violent; as a bystander I broke out in gooseflesh, my stomach churned, and I almost vomited.

What impressed me most was that Pangzi was completely unaffected, holding an egg, peeling it, and preparing to stuff it into his mouth.

"Hey, Pangzi, I told you not to eat it, yet you still eat—aren't you afraid of being poisoned?" I retched twice and angrily said to Pangzi.

Pangzi looked at the egg in his hand, then at the blood on the ground, and said to himself, "People are dead, this egg should be safe food; it's so nourishing—if you can eat it, don't waste it."

Before I could speak, Yang Qiye snorted, "Nourishing—put it in hot water to boil, it'll be even more nourishing."

"Shut up," I glared at Pangzi, then turned and asked Yang Qiye doubtfully, "Master Seven, do you mean this is a gu?"

Master Seven slowly nodded.

When I and Pangzi heard the egg contained gu, we instinctively grabbed the egg basket and ran to the backyard.

After reaching the backyard, I and Pangzi, I placed firewood in the stove, added a large pot of water. Once everything was ready, I lit the stove with a match.

Pangzi gently pushed me, leaned close and whispered, "Is what Master Seven said true? Does the egg really contain gu?" Before he finished speaking, Pangzi had already split one open, from white to yolk, but saw no worm.

Although I couldn't be certain, I still said, better to believe it exists than not.

After the water began to boil, I took the whole basket of eggs from Pangzi's hand, dumped them all into the pot, covered the lid, and stood quietly by the stove waiting.

Soon after, the pot emitted a series of popping sounds, as if something inside was exploding. Then the whole pot rattled loudly, frightening me and Pangzi, each gripping the lid tightly with both hands.

After about twenty minutes, the shaking lid began to settle, and nothing inside was struggling anymore. I and Pangzi glanced at each other, and almost simultaneously we lifted the lid.

"Damn... truly disgusting," Pangzi glanced at the inside of the lid, covered his eyes, and turned away.

I looked inside, my stomach also couldn't help surging with nausea. I saw bones floating on the rolling water, slender and dark, with spines like thorns. Judging by shape, they were snake bones.

"What now?" Pangzi threw the split egg into the pot and asked me, "Hai Sheng, when did our Chan Yi Hall provoke a gu master, to come and harm us with gu?"

I gave a wry smile, shook my head, and replied, "Probably not a gu master, but an insect master."

Earlier, when I recognized the old woman as a living nurturer, Master Seven insisted she was an insect nurturer. The two must be related. After all, the insect master profession blends the Plowshare Witch Sect and Miao insect nurturing, plus the Southern Method's talisman arts. The studies are varied, also knowing how to release gu and use talismans. In my and Pangzi's impression, the only insect master we've clashed with was Ou Yaofeng, though he had already been killed by his master.

Wrong, he's dead, but his master...

Instantly, a bad thought crossed my mind; Pangzi stroked his chin, thought a long while, and blurted, "Could it be the master of Ou Yaofeng?"

"Come on, let's go ask Master Seven first." By now we two couldn't think of a plan. After all, the insect master profession is too bizarre, so we can only first consult the elders before deciding.

However, when I and Pangzi returned to the main hall of Chan Yi Hall, we were shocked by what happened there, our eyes almost popped out.

In the hall, Master Seven was swinging his fists and fighting someone, and that opponent turned out to be Pangzi's father, QingSongShu.

"Holy shit, how did my dad come back?" Pangzi shouted in terror and rushed over to separate them.

"Hai Sheng, what are you standing there for? Come help!" Pangzi yelled at me.

After coming to my senses, I hurried over as well, verbally urging them to stop while Pangzi and I separated them. However, I was also puzzled: QingSongShu and Master Seven together are over a hundred years old, yet they're still so impulsive. Moreover, QingSongShu's nature is very placid; even if you randomly run up and curse at his nose, he'd at most smile, turn away and ignore you, never retaliate.

Now, even the habitually calm QingSongShu has become abnormal, disregarding image and openly getting physical with Master Seven in the hall.

"You rotten bark, is this how you treat guests? You're not even as polite as your son."

"Get lost... Chan Yi Hall doesn't welcome your shifty-eyed, hook-nosed self; wherever you came from, get lost back there."

"You say who's shifty-eyed? Heck, I'm your senior brother, old man."

"Senior brother my ass, I don't recall you being my senior brother."

Although they're said to be sworn brothers, to me they feel more like enemies with a deep grudge; even if I and Pangzi pulled them apart, they still glared, beard bristling, exchanging insults without backing down.

Pangzi gave me a pleading look, clearly wanting me to think of a way to get these two elders to calm down.

I'm annoyed; one is my elder, the other is highly skilled in martial arts, a match for my master; trying to mediate, offending either is a dead end.

"We've provoked an insect master." Helpless, I could only wryly shout that.

I never expected that, in this urgency, blurting out those two words would silence the noisy hall; like a thunderclap, the two elders stopped arguing.

QingSongShu stroked his beard, thinking he'd misheard, doubtfully asking me to confirm, 'What did you just say? Insect master, you've provoked an insect master.'

Before I could answer, Master Seven snorted, rolled his eyes at QingSongShu and said, 'Naturally it's an insect master; otherwise where do you think that pool of blood on the ground came from? It's because I killed an insect nurturer.' After saying that, Master Seven pointed at the ground and stopped looking at QingSongShu.

QingSongShu sat down, his expression solemn, and said to me and Pangzi, 'You two, tell me, what exactly is going on?'

"Uh... you two elders are also tired; let me and Pangzi go make two cups of tea for you." After saying that, I glanced at Pangzi and quickly headed to the rear hall.

After reaching the rear hall, I put my arm around Pangzi's shoulder and quietly asked, 'You didn't say QingSongShu and Master Seven were two brothers? Why do they seem more like enemies to me?'

Pangzi looked around to make sure no one was near, then whispered in my ear, 'I'll quietly tell you, don't tell anyone else.'

I nodded, swore secrecy. Then Pangzi said, 'Because of a woman, their junior sister.'

I couldn't help but curl my lips: 'Beauty brings disaster; women really aren't anything good.'

"Their junior sister is my mom," Pangzi glared at me menacingly, looking like he wanted to kill me. Startled, I flinched and immediately changed my tune: "Since ancient times, beauties are graceful, drawing countless heroes to wield their sabers."

Pangzi nodded very satisfiedly, I hurriedly wiped the cold sweat from my forehead. Now I finally understand why Master Seven is so affectionate toward Pangzi—he likes Pangzi's mother.

But... why would such an ordinary woman cause two Daoist Sect masters to turn against each other? I've seen Pangzi's mother's photo; in Tang Dynasty terms she'd certainly be a beauty. But in modern times she's rather overly plump. Pangzi's physique is exactly inherited from her.

I couldn't resist my curiosity and wanted to ask Pangzi more. Just then my doubtful gaze met Pangzi's murderous look, startling me into a jolt, and I forced the question back down.

Perhaps Pangzi's mother truly possesses a charm I can't imagine.
