Chapter 483

~8 min read 1,555 words

The words 'travel' stimulated me, and Pangzi and I finally realized we weren't here to play this time. Because of the Masked Beast matter being delayed, I also slept in the hospital for several days, so our schedule naturally slowed down a lot.

But why hasn't QingSongShu called? Logically, if he arrived at the Yang merchant's house before us, he should have called Pangzi, right?

Thinking that, I voiced the doubt in my heart. Not asking would have been fine, but once I asked, Pangzi's face changed instantly. He trembled as he pulled out that old mobile phone from his bag. At a glance, his face turned deathly pale, because the phone had no battery.

It seems QingSongShu also doesn't know how many times he called Pangzi, but Pangzi, this blockhead, kept playing around and forgot to check his phone.

"Pangzi, hurry up and call QingSongShu back!" I urged Pangzi, who hastily removed a large battery from Sun Miao's phone, installed it on his own, and dialed QingSongShu's number.

I don't know what Pangzi and QingSongShu said on the phone, but after hanging up, Pangzi's expression relaxed considerably; it seems QingSongShu didn't scold Pangzi.

That makes sense—parents who haven't heard from their child for days would have turned their anger into worry; how could they still scold their own child?

"My dad's already here; he told us to wrap things up quickly and then rush over to meet him!" Pangzi hung up the phone and exhaled with lingering fear.

"Since that's the case, we shouldn't delay; let's set off now!" I responded to Pangzi, then turned and clasped my hands toward Yao Wenju, explaining: "Wenju brother, Pangzi and I still have business, so we'll skip this meal. Another day, next time we'll surely not disappoint your kindness."

Yao Wenju smiled understandingly, said it was fine, then asked us: "You're in such a hurry—what are you rushing to do?"

I hummed and nodded: "Pangzi and I still need to rush to meet his father; because of the Masked Beast matter, we've already been delayed a lot. Now we need to pick up the pace."

Yao Wenju merely gave an 'oh' and didn't ask further.

"Then go ahead; next time we have a chance we'll eat together." Yao Wenju had just taken two steps when he turned back and asked us: "Oh, by the way, I have a car and a plane—would you like me to give you a ride?"

Pangzi and I couldn't help but look delighted, saying this was naturally great—simply exactly what we wanted.

Yao Wenju had Sun Miao prepare the car, and Pangzi and I, without ceremony, hurriedly got into Sun Miao's vehicle.

Sun Miao drove the Audi, carrying us all the way toward the place Pangzi mentioned. After four hours of bumpy travel, Sun Miao turned and asked Pangzi: "Exactly where are you headed?"

Because Pangzi only roughly knew a county name, not the specific village or household, he wasn't clear. He used the old mobile phone to call QingSongShu, but QingSongShu didn't answer.

I rolled my eyes and mocked him as unreliable. Pangzi didn't retort, but with a dejected expression he scratched his head, saying he didn't know either—just that it was the wealthy household of a man named Yang Shouren.

"Yang Shouren, are you sure?" Sun Miao turned his head and asked Pangzi again in surprise.

Pangzi nodded firmly: "No mistake, it's Yang Shouren."

Sun Miao gave an 'oh', said he understood, and would now take us there. He then restarted the car and turned onto another direction.

It seems Sun Miao knows Yang Shouren as well—just hearing the name, he knows how to get to his home.

"Little Sun, do you know Yang Shouren?" I asked curiously from the back seat.

Sun Miao chuckled: "Yang Shouren has some business dealings with the Yao family; since I work for Yao Zong, I've also come into contact with the Yangs. Moreover, Yang Shouren is quite famous around here—almost nobody doesn't know him."

It seems Yang Shouren is even wealthier than I imagined.

Because the journey was rather far, I slumped in the back seat and fell asleep. However, the rural roads were also bumpy, and there was nothing to lean on in the car, so my sleep was quite unstable.

No choice—I had to lean on Pangzi's shoulder, tilt my head against it, and find a relatively comfortable position to sleep.

After who knows how long of jolting along, Sun Miao stopped the car in an ancient-style manor and woke us both, saying this was Yang Shouren's home.

Upon hearing we had arrived at Yang Shouren's home, Pangzi and I hurriedly opened the car doors and stepped out. As my foot had just left the door while half my body was still in the car, I turned and waved at Sun Miao: "Little Sun, thanks for the trouble this time; next time we meet, I'll treat you to a meal."

Sun Miao laughed politely: "Not at all—if we get another chance, it should be me treating you to a meal."

"You go ahead and get busy; I'll drive back now—there's still plenty to handle at the place." Sun Miao laughed as he closed the car door, and amid our waving farewells, he turned the car around and drove off.

After Sun Miao's car drove away, Pangzi and I hurried forward and knocked on the gate of the Yang family manor.

Coming out to greet us was an elderly steward over fifty. Though his hair was white, his spirit was fine; he stood straight and asked us vigorously: "You two young people, where are you from, and what brings you to the Yang family?"

"Sir, it's like this: my father is Wang Qingsong; a few days ago he came to assess the Yang boss's feng shui, and I'm here to find him!" Pangzi frankly told the steward his relationship with QingSongShu.

Upon hearing that, the steward looked at Pangzi in surprise and said: "So you're Master Wang's son—quickly, please come in." He then opened the gate and ushered us inside.

After ushering us into the Yang manor, the steward said: "Masters, what a coincidence—Master Wang just went with our lord to the rear mountain to inspect the ancestral graves. Would you like to rest first? I'll arrange guest rooms for you."

"Oh, he's gone to look at feng shui? Where is it? Do you know the way? Can you take us now?" Upon hearing QingSongShu had begun geomancy, I didn't want to miss this learning opportunity.

When the steward heard we wanted to go to the rear mountain to find QingSongShu and company, he hesitated at first. But after Pangzi said we were going to help QingSongShu with the geomancy, the steward quickly agreed, gave us a cup of water, and then led us nonstop to the rear mountain, seeming even more eager than we were.

This steward is truly loyal; although he doesn't understand feng shui, as soon as he hears it concerns the master's feng shui, he immediately becomes extremely nervous.

The Yang family's ancestral graves lie a full kilometer from the manor. Pangzi and I went there in a car driven by the Yang family's chauffeur, accompanied by the old steward who was guiding us. However, the steward only led us to the mountain's base, pointed out a direction, and said that once we reached the mountainside we could see the Yang ancestral graves.

When I asked him why he wasn't coming up with us, he said this was the Yang family's main grounds, and servants aren't allowed to go up. Apart from feng shui masters and the family's direct line, without the master's permission, no one may ascend the graves to desecrate the Yang ancestors.

One must admit that, even though reform and opening-up have been in effect for many years, some feudal ideas—like the notion of exalted position and lowly status—still linger, especially among the elderly. From the Yang manor's retro-style pavilions and towers, one can see that the Yang family, at least before the Republic era, was certainly no ordinary household.

Thinking that, Pangzi and I didn't make things difficult for the steward regarding the directions. We gathered our belongings and hurried together up to the mountainside.

Just after we climbed over a small hill, a gentle breeze blew, and Pangzi and I instantly felt our hearts and spleens relax, our whole body suffused with coolness.

"What a fine place!" Even though we hadn't reached the destination, this oncoming wind already indicated the site's extraordinariness.

In our line of work, land is like a person, possessing essence, energy, and spirit. The local airflow is the spirit of a feng shui site. In a place with good feng shui, the incoming breath always makes one feel invigorated; in a land of dire evil and malign influences, you might not even set foot before your mind feels suffocated and unable to breathe.

The surrounding environment was a lush green, verdant as far as the eye could see—clearly a place teeming with life. After crossing the hills, Pangzi and I could already see several people standing far ahead on the mountain's opposite side.

With Pangzi's and my eyesight, we could see clearly that one of them, an old man wearing a Tang-style jacket, was Pangzi's father—and also my QingSongShu.
