Chapter 242: Collided
The fox sisters huddled together in Xie Liu Alley, staring at the letter before them, their faces drawn with worry.
Bai Hu sat idly to the side, one leg crossed over the other, filing her nails.
The letter had been sent by the old fox, asking the sisters: How is the task I assigned you progressing?
A few days ago, the fox sisters had come to Zhan Cheng with Bai Hu.
This place is truly wonderful, Auntie.
Silk robes and fine food!
These past few days, the sisters had eaten and played nonstop, completely forgetting the task Laozu had given them!
Besides, they had no intention of doing it at all.
The two sisters were certain: anything connected to Xu Yuan was bound to be dangerous!
This was the conclusion they'd drawn from their few limited encounters with Xu Yuan.
Every time, it ended badly.
They hadn't done nothing at all—last night, they revealed their true forms and wandered freely through the city, trying to find the Nancheng Patrol Office.
Along the way, they encountered five malevolent spirits, who all shook their heads like rattle drums the moment they heard the sisters wanted to go to the Nancheng Patrol Office.
Even when the sisters used their charms to bewitch them, the spirits still refused to guide them there.
Eventually, a lustful red-eyed rat quietly told them the truth: that place was a forbidden zone for malevolent spirits!
Yellow light kept billowing out from within!
Anyone caught in it would die—or be horribly wounded!
The two sisters trembled all over and scurried back in terror.
Sure enough, once Xu Yuan gets involved, nothing good ever happens!
We can't do what Laozu assigned us!
And today, Laozu sent another letter pressing them.
Bai Hu smiled sweetly: "I won't pressure you, but you'd better brace yourselves for your brother's wrath."
The two foxes wore gloomy expressions—clearly, they feared Laozu far more.
The sisters gritted their teeth, rolled on the ground, and transformed into human form: "Let's go take a look first."
With faces set like martyrs, they linked arms and walked out.
Bai Hu's face darkened: "Come back! Put on your clothes!"
"Oh."
……
Tie Beigai and an old comrade, dressed in coarse linen tunics and straw sandals, disguised themselves as laborers, pulling a flatbed cart together.
Tie Beigai pulled from the front; the old comrade pushed from behind.
Several heavy sacks lay atop the cart.
Night was falling; they quickened their pace—they must reach the outskirts of the Nancheng Patrol Office before darkness fell.
The sacks contained Xue Yan Chong!
Tie Beigai silently sighed: You big-clan youths really don't value human lives.
These sacks of Xue Yan Chong were forged by Fu Chongjiu, along with him and his men, by slaughtering one hundred and twenty-seven villagers from a small village outside the city!
Tie Beigai didn't have enough men to subdue so many villagers—Fu Chongjiu had to intervene personally.
But to Fu Chongjiu, this was merely a test of Xu Yuan's strength.
Once he understood Xu Yuan's power, Fu Chongjiu had other methods ready, specifically designed to deal with Xu Yuan.
But Tie Beigai thought no special methods were needed.
Just unleashing this many Xue Yan Chong would wipe out the entire Nancheng Patrol Office.
No survivors would remain.
Word had it Xu Yuan kept a giant goose—surely it would be devoured along with the rest.
This was true annihilation—every last soul, every last creature!
Tie Beigai only worried: this won't be easy to clean up.
After devouring all the blood offerings in the Nancheng Patrol Office, these malevolent spirits won't stop—they'll turn on the surrounding civilians, possibly bringing ruin to the whole of Zhan Cheng!
The more blood these malevolent spirits consume, the stronger they grow.
The salt smugglers never dared produce so many Xue Yan Chong at once, because they couldn't control the aftermath.
If the imperial court investigated, they'd have no escape.
As they neared a narrow street near the Nancheng Patrol Office, an old woman with a orchid-patterned headscarf suddenly asked: "Excuse me, how do I get to the Nancheng Patrol Office?"
Tie Beigai glanced at her and asked calmly: "Auntie, what business do you have at the Nancheng Patrol Office?"
"My son works there," Wang Shen said proudly, waiting for them to ask what position he held.
Tie Beigai asked as expected: "Which of the Nancheng Patrol Office's my lords is your son?"
"The Patrol Inspector," Wang Shen replied immediately. "I heard he's the highest-ranking official in the Nancheng Patrol Office."
Tie Beigai and his comrade exchanged a glance—this isn't our fault. Heaven has a path, yet you walk away; Hell has no door, yet you walk right in!
"Hehehe," Tie Beigai smiled warmly: "We're delivering goods to the Nancheng Patrol Office—why don't you ride with us? We'll take you there."
"Oh my, how could we possibly impose?"
"You're family to Lord Xu—it's only right, only right."
"Lord Xu has an excellent reputation in the city."
Tie Beigai helped Wang Shen onto the cart.
They hadn't pulled the cart far before reaching the gates of the Nancheng Patrol Office—the sky was nearly dark, and a few people hurried past on the street, rushing home.
Tiebei Gai saw a pair of stunningly beautiful sisters walking to the door, peering inside with apparent curiosity.
He sneered inwardly: It is simply your bad fortune!
Not a single person on this street will survive, including that pair of sister flowers.
Wang Shen saw the plaque hanging above the door and smiled: "We have arrived..."
Just as Wang Shen was about to step down from the carriage, Tiebei Gai shoved her violently, causing her to crash into a sack.
Crash—
Her entire body scattered into a pile of "parts."
Tiebei Gai had already spoken: "Accompany Xu Yuan in death..."
The scene before him left him stunned.
He had never seen a single push reduce a person to such a state!
And yet, there was not a drop of blood.
But Tiebei Gai could no longer care; the sky had darkened, and the Blood Salt Fiends within the sack were stirring!
Tiebei Gai slashed open the sack with a blade and turned to flee with his old comrade.
Yet they could not escape.
Lowering his head, he found a hand gripping his ankle.
His old comrade was in the same situation.
Then, the old woman's voice sounded from behind: "So it is Blood Salt Fiends. Alas, there are quite a few..."
Tiebei Gai turned back to see countless blood particles rushing out with a crash from the sack he had slashed, tearing open the remaining few sacks in the process.
Even more blood particles flew out with a rattling sound.
The old woman's head sat squarely on the cart, speaking!
Her two hands were gripping herself and her old comrade respectively. Tiebei Gai's first reaction was: This old woman is also an evil spirit!
The Blood Salt Fiends surged skyward, as if a great mass of blood fire had ignited right there, and a cold, evil aura instantly enveloped the entire street!
Tiebei Gai kicked with all his might, trying to kick away that hand.
If he did not leave now, it would truly be too late; he too would die here!
But that hand was harder than iron tongs.
Tiebei Gai drew a short blade from his waist and chopped down on that hand.
Clang!
A stream of sparks flew out!
Is this still a human hand?!
The head on the cart spoke again: "This is somewhat troublesome..."
Immediately following, a flame burst forth with a boom from the heart dangling beneath the cart.
In an instant, the flame engulfed all the Blood Salt Fiends.
The terrifying evil spirit created by over a hundred people did not a single one escape; burned and crackling within the flames, struggling and twisting, changing into many dreadful forms, yet they were completely incinerated in just a few breaths!
